Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 244: Chapter 244 - Mysterious prototype

The moment their boots touched down outside the school perimeter, a sigh of relief swept through the group. The air still reeked faintly of smoke and metal, but at least they were alive.

”We did it! We actually got out!” Hana exclaimed, bouncing a little with Yuki cradled safely in her arms. Her voice cracked with relief, the tension finally loosening from her shoulders.

Zei let out a tired laugh as he stumbled slightly, leaning against Qui Yue. ”I never wanna do that again,” he muttered, wiping the blood from under his nose. ”Freezing that many people at once... damn near killed me.”

”But you were awesome,” Qui Yue said, gripping his arm. ”You saved all of us.”

Zei gave a faint smile before his knees gave out, his powers finally depleting. Muchen caught him just in time, dragging him behind a broken wall for cover. ”Rest. You’ve done more than enough.”

Just as they began to move again, a sharp shout rang out. The crack of gunfire split the air.

”Ambush! Get down!” Muchen roared.

From behind rusted barricades and shattered vehicles, a unit of soldiers—those left outside the school—rose and opened fire.

Yunfeng reacted instantly, a wall of shimmering fire flaring up around the group. Bullets hissed and pinged against it, melting or dropping harmlessly to the ground. But a few found their mark—one punched through the shield just before it stabilized, embedding itself deep in Yunfeng’s left shoulder.

He grunted, staggering as the flame barrier flickered. ”Dammit...!”

Lu Zhi and Kailun caught him before he collapsed, dragging him to cover. Blood ran freely down his arm.

Muchen’s gaze darkened.

”You shouldn’t have done that,” he said coldly, stepping into the open.

Another soldier raised his weapon.

Bang.

A clean shot to the forehead. He dropped.

Two more stepped out from behind a van.

Bang. Bang.

Both fell, eyes wide in death.

Muchen didn’t miss a step, didn’t blink. His aim was ruthless, every shot fatal. He moved with chilling precision, gun in one hand, metal rod in the other. One soldier tried to run—Muchen was faster. He caught up and drove the rod into his back, dragging it down before kicking the body aside.

”You shoot at him, you die,” Muchen growled, eyes blazing. ”You hurt him, you don’t get to walk away.”

Zei, barely conscious, looked up from where Qui Yue held him. ”Remind me never to piss that guy off.”

”Too late,” Hana whispered, hugging Yuki tighter as she turned away from the bloodshed.

The last soldier dropped his weapon, begging for mercy.

”You followed the wrong orders,” Muchen said, and with one swift motion, pulled the trigger.

Silence fell.

Smoke curled from the muzzle of Muchen’s gun as he walked back to the others, expression unreadable. His shirt was splattered with blood—not his own.

Yunfeng, still clutching his shoulder, met his gaze. ”You okay.. you aren’t hurt right?” he rapidly checked his lover even when he was wincing in pain.

Muchen leaned up and kissed him softly. ”I’m not.. but you are... I wont forgive these bastards..” he looked around. all of the soldiers guarding outside the school were down. ”let’s go. everyone move quick.”

Just as they began to think they were finally safe, a sharp metallic click echoed behind them.

The air shifted.

From the heavy mist emerged a broad silhouette in uniform—weathered and scarred, but imposing. The old commander. His eyes were narrowed, and a deep scowl was etched into his lined face. The dried blood on his coat and the dirt clinging to his boots gave him a ghost-like presence. And in his grip—an injector gun filled with something glowing a faint, eerie green.

”You kids made quite the mess in there,” he muttered darkly.

Before anyone could react, he lunged forward with surprising speed. His fist slammed into Lu Zhi’s side, knocking the breath clean out of him as he dropped Yunfeng.

”Lu Zhi!” Hana screamed.

Kailun rushed in, fury and desperation on his face. ”Don’t you dare touch them—!”

But the commander turned, remorse flickering in his eyes for just a split second. ”I’m sorry,” he said, almost gently—right before punching the old man with a vicious blow that sent him sprawling.

Yunfeng, despite the searing pain in his shoulder, tried to rise. ”Muchen! Don’t let him—!” he shouted hoarsely, fire already pooling at his fingertips.

But he was too late.

The commander, with the efficiency of a trained professional, jammed the injector against the open wound on Yunfeng’s shoulder and pulled the trigger.

Click.

The liquid shot straight into his bloodstream.

Yunfeng’s scream tore through the air. His body convulsed violently as the serum took hold, surging through every nerve. His fire flickered—then vanished. Like a candle suddenly snuffed out.

His knees buckled.

”YUNFENG!” Muchen roared, slamming down the last soldier in his path with a ruthless shot to the head.

The old commander watched Yunfeng writhe on the ground, blood seeping from his shoulder wound. The boy’s face twisted in pain, his body struggling to move as the effects of the injection began to take hold.

The commander glanced down at the now-empty syringe in his hand.

That syringe had been handed to him personally by a superior—part of a new protocol. It was a prototype, developed specifically to deal with mutated or unusually powerful infected. It didn’t cure the infection, nor did it kill. It was designed to suppress abnormal abilities temporarily—long enough for transport or containment. He was told to use it only if he encountered a ”high-value specimen.”

Yunfeng clearly fit that category.

As the boy’s body trembled, the commander moved to drag him away—but just then, a gunshot rang out.

A bullet sliced past him, tearing through the edge of his ear. He flinched, staggered—more shots followed, each one too fast to fully dodge. Blood burst from several wounds across his body.

Realizing he wouldn’t make it out if he stayed, the old commander made a split-second decision.

He abandoned the mission and disappeared into the fog, leaving Yunfeng collapsed and shaking on the ground.

”yunfeng!” Muchen ran up to him and held his face. ”d-do you feel any pain.. oh god..” he mumbled in panic.

Yunfeng lay on the ground, trembling and gasping. ”Muchen..” he reached up his hand waving it slightly.

Muchen frowned and held his wavering hand. ”I’m here.. I’m here. You’re safe.”

The next.. yunfeng uttered the words that made him completely heartbroken.

”I—I can’t see,” he whispered. His voice was hoarse, terrified. ”Muchen—I can’t see anything...” he grasped at his hand tightly.

Zei, panting and pale, stumbled toward them. ”W-What did he inject him with?!”

”I don’t know I don’t know...,” Muchen panicked. ”Dammit!”

Hana knelt beside them, hugging Yuki tightly as tears pooled in her eyes. ”Is Yunfeng... going to die?”

”No,” Muchen said with clenched teeth. ”No No... I wont let anything happen to him.”

Yunfeng’s breath hitched, his voice cracking. ”I can’t feel anything. It’s all... gone.”

Muchen silently hugged his lover close. ”everything is okay... ill make everything okay yunfeng...”

And in that moment, the air around them turned unbearably heavy. What should have been a victorious escape had turned into another cruel reminder—none of them were safe yet.
