Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 234: Chapter 234 - Escape plan

The two corpses in the supply closet twitched.

First, it was the baby zombie—its tiny limbs jerking with a grotesque innocence. Its head lolled unnaturally before snapping upright. Clouded eyes rolled in its sockets as it slowly crawled down from the pile of cleaning rags. Drool and blood mixed at the corners of its mouth. It landed with a soft thud, then crawled to the metal door, scratching at it with its small, claw-like fingers. The dull scrape echoed in the silent hallway.

Behind it, the woman zombie stirred.

Her fingers curled, stiff at first, then moving faster, clawing the floor beneath her. Her eyes shot open, foggy and unseeing but burning with hunger. Her jaw worked open and shut, teeth clacking against each other. The skin on her neck twitched where the bite had first pierced her—now sealed, now undead.

Outside, heavy footsteps passed.

”Who the hell stuck a damn cat in the closet?” a man grumbled, annoyed. ”It’s makin’ such a racket!”

He swung the door open without caution.

And froze.

There it was. The baby. Small. Pale. With blackened veins crawling under translucent skin. Blood dripped from its chin as it looked up with lifeless eyes.

”What the fu—”

The baby lunged.

Its teeth sank right through his leather boot, right into the flesh of his ankle. He screamed. ”FUCKING—!”

In panic, he kicked the baby away with all his might.

But in mid-air, a blur moved—lightning-fast.

The shadow caught the child.

The man’s heart skipped a beat.

It was her.

The short-haired woman. Her head tilted slightly as she cradled the baby to her chest, her eyes glassy, but filled with something far more terrifying than hunger.

She opened her mouth.

”Hurt... baby...” Her voice was cracked, dry, broken—yet full of rage.

Then she moved.

Before the man could take a breath, she was upon him. Her teeth sank deep into his throat. The sound that escaped him was a sickening gurgle, blood spraying from his neck like a burst pipe. His hands flailed, trying to push her off, but her grip was steel. She tore into his flesh with violent desperation, growling like an animal.

His body twitched.

Then went still.

Blood dripped down her chin as she stood there, chest heaving. The baby whimpered in her arms. She held him close, rocking slightly.

The last sliver of humanity flickered inside her broken mind.

She remembered.

The faces of the men who violated her, who sent her into darkness again.

A low growl built in her chest. It rose and tore out of her mouth as a broken, hate-filled word:

”Death...”

She turned slowly toward the hallway.

And walked forward, cradling her child—her only light—now cold and monstrous.

Muchen and the others sat in Yunfeng’s dorm room, the atmosphere thick with tension. The light above flickered now and then, casting long, wavering shadows across the walls. No one spoke at first. Zei’s words still lingered in their ears like the slow tolling of a warning bell. The military wouldn’t let them leave.

But staying wasn’t an option either.

The silence was suffocating, their thoughts churning behind heavy eyes and furrowed brows. Muchen sat beside Yunfeng on the edge of the narrow bed, his jaw clenched, mind racing. Kai paced near the door while Skyy leaned against the windowsill, watching the barricaded courtyard below.

Finally, Zei broke the silence with a sigh. ”Okay... let’s do this. We’ll plan this out properly. Take two days. We scout the area, learn the routes, find a loophole in their security. We’ll use our powers and escape.”

Muchen’s hand shot out, grabbing Yunfeng’s.

”No,” he said, voice firm, almost sharp. ”We can’t expose our powers.”

Yunfeng blinked, taken aback by the sudden intensity in Muchen’s voice. ”Muchen...”

But Muchen wouldn’t let go. His grip tightened, eyes wild with something close to panic. ”No, Yunfeng! One group has already targeted you for your powers. We barely made it out alive! If the military finds out, they won’t treat you as a person—they’ll treat you like a tool. Like property. We don’t want that!”

His voice cracked at the end. His heart thundered in his chest. He didn’t realize his hand was shaking until Yunfeng gently placed his other hand over it.

Muchen’s hand still hadn’t left Yunfeng’s. The room had settled into a tense hush, but inside Muchen, a storm raged.

He remembered—too clearly—what Yunfeng had confessed through quiet sobs and trembling lips. The flickering light of a campfire. The way Yunfeng’s voice had caught as he’d spoken of his past life.

How he’d been kidnapped. Locked away in a cold, dark place. Torn apart piece by piece—by scalpels, by needles, by ruthless hands. Treated like an object. A living experiment.

Muchen had held him that night until sleep claimed them both. But the pain hadn’t left. It clung to Muchen like shadows, ever since. He would never allow history to repeat itself.

Not in this life.

Not to the man he loved.

”We’ll use our powers in secret then,” Zei said suddenly, breaking the heavy silence. Her tone was casual, too casual. But her eyes were anything but.

Everyone looked up.

Muchen narrowed his eyes. ”How?”

Zei leaned back against the wall and shrugged, arms crossed. ”Easy. Jai can make the ground tremble, right? So we cause a bit of chaos. Let Jai create a quake-like shake. Just enough to set off the alarms, get everyone running. In the confusion, we slip out.”

A beat of silence passed as the idea settled in.

It was a good plan. Simple. Clean. No flashy powers. Just confusion and timing. Even Muchen couldn’t deny it.

But all eyes turned to Jai, who stood stiffly in the corner. His expression had gone pale, almost guilty. He bit his lower lip, shifting on his feet.

”I... I still have no control over my powers,” he admitted, voice low.

The room tensed.

Jai looked down, fists clenched at his sides. Taking a deep breath he continued, ”But I can try...”
