What the Goguryeos don’t know is that his tactic base form was the combat power of the cavalry, something that the Goguryeo’s cavalry doesn’t have in his mind, and soon enough it was proven by how ineffective was the Goguryeo’s cavalry in trying to weaken Zhang Liao and Gongsun Gong’s army, it even reversed with them gaining large amount casualties causing the Goguryeo’s main general ordering them to retreat.

This dealt a huge blow to the Goguryeo’s Army morale which had risen due to their reinforcement had arrived, their men thought that they finally had the chance to inflict casualties on the Han Army.

Gongsun Gong ordered the archers to shoot at the retreating Goguryeo’s Cavalry, inflicting further damage to the Goguryeo’s cavalry.

The Goguryeo’s main general seeing this changes his tactic and has the cavalry incorporated inside the formation, and from there he makes some last minute changes where the cavalry becomes the vanguard.

He hoped that using the cavalry would delay a massive blow to the Han Army formation, and from there he would utilize the infantries to enter the gap that the cavalries had created to support them.

Lastly, the archers would do some covering fire, targeting the Han Army archer units to suppress them and ensure that his infantries and cavalry could deal the highest damage possible.

When Zhang Liao, Gao Shun, and Gongsun Gong saw the last minute changes made by the Goguryeo Army, they didn’t care about it much because changing a plan of attack at this conjecture wasn’t a good idea.

So Gao Shun and Gongsun Gong only ordered their men to tighten their defensive formation line, while Zhang Liao prepared the Bingzhou Wolf cavalry to leave the formation at any moment, and did a pincer attack on the Goguryeo Army.

The clash between the two armies was very big, and unfortunately for the Goguryeo Army, their cavalry couldn’t deal a big blow to Zhang Liao and Gongsun Gong’s Army.

This caused a big problem for them, as then not all of their infantries had a gap to enter and capitalize on it to disrupt the defensive formation of their enemy, and the reason this happened is due to Gao Shun used the shield wall tactics, but incorporated the nest of bees and fire lance.

This new technology surprised the Goguryeo Army and Gongsun Gong, as they had never seen this kind of weapon before. Both of these weapons inflicted a large amount of damage to the Goguryeo’s infantries and cavalries.

Gongsun Gong: ”What kind of weapon is this General Gao Shun?! How come I have never heard of them in all of my life?!”

Gao Shun: ”Haha these two weapons are called the Nest of Bees and Fire Lance! Both of them were made by the brightest minds under My Lord’s disposal! So I should say that Master Gongsun Gong chose to swear your allegiance to My Lord is the best action!”

Gongsun Gong: ”Yes I could say that I feel relieved to have sworn my allegiance to Lord Lie Fan! I never expected that he would have such weapons under his disposal!”

Gaso Shun: ”These two weapons aren’t the only ones at My Lord’s disposal, there are still many weapons like the Hwacha that could be said to be My Lord’s most dangerous weapon!”

Zhang Liao: ”There are also large ships that were beyond the technology of this era! Those ships were equipped with the Hwacha that Gao Shun had just said, with these we managed to destroy both Liu Yan and Liu Biao’s navy at a fast speed!”

Gongsun Gong hearing what both Zhang Liao and Gao Shun had just said was very shocked, he didn’t expect that Lie Fan would have such an amazing arsenal of weapons and manage to hide it for so long until he decided to show it at the time he wanted.

The nest of bees and fire lance appearance was very surprising for the Goguryeos, the Goguryeo’s main general was surprised, and before he could ask one of his retainers if they ever heard or seen these two weapons, they were attacked from behind.

The one who attacked them was Zhang Liao, who led the Bingzhou Wolf Cavalry and attacked the rear of the Goguryeo’s Army that was distracted by the appearance of The nest of bees and fire lance.

Zhang Liao and the Bingzhou Wolf Cavalry managed to cause a large blow, where they managed to carve inside the formation of the Goguryeo’s Army, decimating many Goguryeos along the way.

This caused the Goguryeo main general to arrange his archer units to target Zhang Liao and the Bingzhou Wolf cavalry, and this move caused the frontline situation for the Goguryeos to change as their infantries didn’t have any support from the rear.

Gao Shun seeing this immediately sends his formation breaker unit to the front line, with the support of the formation breaker unit the other normal units to thwart the attack of the Goguryeos.

The Goguryeos were overwhelmed by the pincer attack and the failure of their offensive plan further caused a large blow.

Many of the Goguryeo’s generals reported news after news of their defeat after defeat at their front to their main general, which caused the Goguryeo main general to have a headache.

He never expected that their offensive plan would fail miserably, he asked the advisors around him what action should they take, and half of his advisors told him to retreat while the other half advised him to keep pressing the Han Army.

Before the Goguryeo main general could decide what to do, suddenly they saw the Han Army launch another frontal assault using the nest of bees and firelance, and manage to turn from defensive to offensive.

Seeing the sudden turn of situation, the Goguryeo’s main general panicked and was afraid that they would lose so he immediately ordered a retreat ignoring some of the dissatisfied advisors and generals.

The drum of the retreat was sounded and the Goguryeos soldiers hearing this began to retreat at full speed, even trampling some of their comrades ignoring their plea for help.

Zhang Liao who was at the rear of the Goguryeo Army alongside the Bingzhou Wolf Cavalry, noticed the situation and led the Bingzhou Wolf Cavalry to leave the rear of the Goguryeo Army formation.

Gao Shun and Gongsun Gong noticed the retreat of the Goguryeo Army and ordered their army to not pursue the Goguryeo Army, as their focus was to subjugate the surrounding area.

The Goguryeo’s retreat was ugly since they left many of their comrades and equipment behind, and seeing this Zhang Liao, Gao Shun, and Gongsun Gong ordered their unit to round up the left behind Goguryeos and their equipment.

In the battle between Lie Fan’s Army and the Goguryeo’s Army at the border of China and the Goguryeo, Anding Jia Kui received a letter from Xun Yu that said Cao Cao accepted Han Sui’s swear of allegiance and informed Jia Kui to proceed as they planned, helping Han Sui to issue the challenge to Ma Teng.

Jia Kui heaved a sigh of relief that Cao Cao agreed with Han Sui’s swear of allegiance that he accepted in Cao Cao’s name, he was afraid that he had overstepped Cao Cao in accepting Han Sui’s swear of allegiance.

Jia Kui accompanied by Li Dian headed toward Han Sui’s residence where Han Sui was currently located, Jia Kui managed to meet Han Sui easily since now they were comrades serving Cao Cao.

Han Sui takes Jia Kui and Li Dian to the men’s hall of his residence, and after taking their seats Jia Kui immediately informs Han Sui of Cao Cao’s decision and tells him that Cao Cao wants him to issue a challenge to Ma Teng, where it was a smoke screen for Cao Cao to send his army to Chang’An.

Hearing this Han Sui was silent for a while and then nodded his head, he only requested that Cao Cao’s Army be as fast as possible since the amount of his army wasn’t as big as it was before.

Jia Kui nodded his head and told Han Sui that he didn’t need to worry because the early had been prepared at Tong Gate and when the moment was perfect, the army would march toward Chang’An at the cover of the night.

Hearing this plan Han Sui agrees and suggests that they take a shortcut from Tong Pass, one that he knew north of Tong Pass that they could use, at this summer time the river was very shallow and they could use it to head toward Chang’An faster.

Hearing that Han Sui even gave some suggestions, Jia Kui then gave Han Sui a letter that he already drafted filled with a statement of challenge toward Ma Teng, Han Sui took the letter from Jia Kui and opened it to read the content inside.

Seeing the choice of words that were chosen as the statement of challenge to Ma Teng, Han Sui was satisfied with it because Jia Kui had used personal words that he would definitely use and Ma Teng wouldn’t be suspicious of his action.

Han Sui asked for a day for him to prepare to release this statement and Jia Kui nodded his head, he also agreed with this move and said that he would wait for Han Sui’s action tomorrow.

So a day passed by and Han Sui released his statement of challenge to Ma Teng, which was full of insults, and told Ma Teng that he didn’t accept their treaty and demanded his towns be returned to him while cursing at Ma Teng.

Ma Teng in Chang’An was enjoying his time with his family when he received the report from his advisors about Han Sui’s challenge.

Hearing this he was surprised and at the same time wasn’t surprised, maybe if it wasn’t filled with curses to him he would be suspicious, but hearing that there were personal insults to him, he knew that it was Han Sui himself and that he somewhat waited for this to happen.

Ma Teng told Ma Chao who was with him to inform Pang De to ready their army in case Han Sui sent his army, even though Han Sui only had 50,000 men they couldn’t let their guard down.

So with Ma Teng’s words to ready his army, Pang De alongside Ma Chao stationed their army in the north of Chang’An, where they also reduced the amount of patrol between Chang’An and Tong Gate not knowing that this was the perfect money for Cao Cao’s Army to exploit, where they send their army lead by Cao Ren, Xu Huang, and Zhang Ji to Chang’A under the cover of the night using the shortcut from Jia Kui who received it from Han Sui.
