The Wizard's Pursuit of Truth

The gaze was so scorching it was impossible to meet. One could only look away, and even then, their hair would stand on end.

Although they had lost their eyes once more, the Gundas’ Dogs inside the tanks trembled. Their latent instincts made them sink, one after another, to the bottom of the tanks.

’Soon, so soon. The Eye of Truth is also constantly evolving. Maybe it won’t take the planned four months—perhaps only three, no, two and a half. Then, I can come and unearth your hidden secrets.’

Wang Ya’s chest heaved. He took another deep breath and slipped the notebook back into his pocket.

He cast a lingering, reluctant glance at the numerous Gundas’ Dogs curled up at the bottom of the tanks.

After leaving the laboratory, Wang Ya changed into a new, gray Wizard Robe and headed toward the Dark Wizard Academy.

He had a class that afternoon for one of his Extraordinary Disciplines: Energy Science.

.......

「Three days later.」

「White Bone Wizard Tower.」

Denno Wizard looked grim, but he didn’t dare say a word. The man before him, Wizard Yi Si, wore an even fouler, expressionless face, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on him.

This was the second floor of the tower, which contained numerous rooms and structures. It was where the Inheritor Disciples of the White Bone Lineage typically rested and conducted their daily Wizard Experiments.

The space had been folded to accommodate entire ecosystems, including a Wizard’s Garden, forest paths, a great, flowing river, and the natural life cycles of its creatures.

A Wizard Tower could be called the pinnacle of Wizard Technology. It even possessed a teleportation function, allowing one to move between its different floors at any time.

The Wizard Tower Spirit is eternally loyal to the master of the Wizard Tower, born to serve and always ready to obey the commands of its master.

”Perhaps... that Wizard Freshman refused,” Denno Wizard couldn’t help but say.

The moment the words left his mouth, he could hardly believe them himself. ’Since when could a Wizard Freshman from the Lower House refuse an invitation from the White Bone School?’

’It was insane!’

’It was like a destitute beggar remaining indifferent to a house full of gold and jewels.’

’It wasn’t normal. It was extremely abnormal.’

Wizard Yi Si didn’t speak. His expression only soured further, his brow slightly furrowed. The casual air of the afternoon tea spot in the garden vanished, replaced by an extremely oppressive atmosphere.

The wrinkles on Denno’s old face deepened. He finally spoke, his voice strained. ”You can’t expect me to have a Mind Reading Technique to know what that kid is thinking.”

”Maybe he didn’t sleep well last night, and his head wasn’t clear, so he just gave us the cold shoulder... or maybe he forgot...”

Denno Wizard spoke nonsense he didn’t even believe himself. Seeing Wizard Yi Si’s brow furrow even tighter, the corner of his own eye began to twitch. ’I’m speechless... Both the First and Second Seats are impossible to please.’

’No wonder they’re the First and Second Seats. They’re both so damn weird.’

”Are you two playing charades over here?” Xugus Wizard strode over from the side of the path, a cup of Wizard’s Brew in hand. With a broad smile, he pulled out a chair, plopped down, and took a satisfied gulp.

”Looks like you’ve run into some trouble, Little Yi Si.”

Xugus Wizard, whose face was clearly younger, gave Wizard Yi Si a knowing look. ”I think you should tell your First Seat all about it. Let me help you with your troubles.”

”If it’s about that upcoming duel, I can take your place. It’s been a while since I had a good fight, anyway.”

Xugus Wizard rolled up his sleeves and proclaimed loudly, shaking his fist.

Wizard Yi Si shot Xugus Wizard a sideways glance. His lips moved, and he spat out a single word: ”Idiot!”

With that, he turned and left without a backward glance.

Xugus Wizard wiggled his eyebrows, then turned his gaze to Denno Wizard.

Denno Wizard: ”...”

”Bwahahaha! That’s hilarious! So that’s what this is about! Little Yi Si is such an idiot! How embarrassing! It’s killing me, ahahaha!” Xugus Wizard leaned back in his chair, clutching his stomach as he roared with laughter.

”I mean, seriously? A great Extreme Wizard Apprentice, failing to invite a freshman from the Lower House? He’s a total failure as a Second Seat! What an idiot, haha!”

”But still... this kid, Wang Ya Harak, is pretty interesting.” Xugus Wizard’s smile slowly faded. He propped his chin on one hand, a thoughtful look entering his eyes as he seemed to ponder something.
