”What is that?!”

The gray-robed youth raised his head and stared upward, his mouth agape. Even as the light of the black sun stabbed into his eyes and made them tear up, he didn’t dare look away.

His entire body shuddered violently as a bone-chilling cold surged through his heart.

A black sun, five meters in diameter, was crashing down from above.

The terrifying might it contained was so immense that it left one completely unable to even muster a thought of resistance.

The void twisted and blurred as wave after wave of ripples spread out like water.

The black sun resembled a meteor—or rather, a fallen sun crashing straight down from the heavens.

Poof—

Two pitch-black palm prints shattered like fragile bubbles, not even stirring the air.

”This kind of power... is this a High-Level Earth Grade Dou Technique?!” the gray-robed youth shrieked. His eyes were completely bloodshot, veins popping with fury and panic.

His aura suddenly erupted, soaring several levels in an instant. Dense, icy black qi swirled violently around his palms as he struck forward. ”I’ll block it!”

In an instant, two even more condensed and massive black palm prints emerged, slamming upward toward the falling black sun.

Sss sss—

The icy cold energy clashed with the black sun’s scorching heat. Two completely opposing energies collided and canceled each other out, letting off hissing sounds.

The next moment, the palm prints and the black sun collided fiercely.

Time itself seemed to freeze in that moment.

As if the loudest sound had vanished into utter silence.

Silently, a massive black mushroom cloud surged into the sky.

Wom—

A wave of force quietly spread out, the void rippling like disturbed water.

Wherever it passed—

Crack crack—

Space fractured like glass, covered in fine, web-like cracks that rapidly spread outward, as if unable to withstand the pressure and on the verge of collapse.

Then—

Boom! Boom! Boom!!!

The thunderous explosion finally arrived, delayed but deafening, shaking the heavens.

...

Moments later—

The violent aftershock finally began to settle.

Whoosh!

A battered figure shot out from the lingering remnants of the blast.

His hair was disheveled, his robes torn and scorched, blackened in many places. His chest rose and fell violently as he panted for breath, his face pale and drenched in sweat.

”My soul power was nearly drained just to barely block it...” the gray-robed youth trembled with lingering fear. That terrifying explosion had nearly crushed him.

Then came a wave of heartache. That one move had cost him more than half his soul power!

His soul was already in a half-crippled state, far from its peak.

Now it had suffered even more damage.

Cough cough cough...

Just then, a fit of coughing echoed from nearby.

The gray-robed youth quickly turned his head to look.

In the distance, Wei Yang’s figure emerged. With his wings lightly flapping, he hovered several hundred meters away.

At this moment, his black robe was a bit disheveled, and a few strands of hair had come loose from his neatly combed head. But overall, he still looked relatively clean and tidy. Though his face was somewhat pale, his aura remained stable—he didn’t appear weak at all.

”You! How are you...?”

The gray-robed youth’s eyes widened in a mix of shock and fury.

He looked like a beggar, yet the other guy looked as if he hadn’t even been scratched?

But very quickly, he sneered coldly. ”Heh... Kid, you put on a good act. But did you think I wouldn’t notice? Even if you hide it well, your aura is slightly unstable and clearly weaker than before... Hmph. With your cultivation level, that last move must’ve taken a huge toll, right?”

Wei Yang simply smiled, neither confirming nor denying.

No matter how powerful the technique, he was currently just a One-Star Dou Huang.

Even a weakened version of Black Sun Burning Heaven Palm was definitely a High-Level Earth Grade Dou Technique. The consumption was, frankly, overwhelming.

Right now, his entire body felt hollowed out.

The vast Dou Qi that had once surged through his meridians was now almost completely drained.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to kill the other guy in one blow.

As expected—old monsters like this weren’t easy to kill.

Still, the gray-robed youth wasn’t doing well either. Beyond looking pitiful on the surface, he had lost more than half of his soul power. If Wei Yang had the strength to unleash Black Sun Burning Heaven Palm one more time, the gray-robed youth would likely be finished.

Both of them were extremely weakened at this moment.

So the two sides fell silent for a while, staring at each other wide-eyed.

At the same time, they both hurried to seize the moment to regulate their breathing and recover a bit.

...

The gray-robed youth’s chest heaved violently a few times. After calming his breath slightly, he looked toward Wei Yang and asked with suspicion, ”That black flame you just used—was it a Heavenly Flame?”

”That’s right,” Wei Yang nodded.

”Which Heavenly Flame is it?” the gray-robed youth asked curiously.

In his memory, there didn’t seem to be any record of such a flame.

”It’s nothing much—just number twenty-four on the Heavenly Flame Ranking: Black Sun Burning Heaven Flame,” Wei Yang replied with a smile.

”Heavenly Flame Rank twenty-four? Black Sun Burning Heaven Flame

?” The gray-robed youth frowned. ”Never heard of it.”Then, glaring at Wei Yang, he snapped angrily, ”If you don’t want to say it, just say so. Why toy with me? There are only twenty-three Heavenly Flames in the rankings—where does a twenty-fourth come from?”

”Just because it didn’t exist before... doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist now, or won’t in the future,” Wei Yang gave him a calm glance and said faintly.

”You mean... I see, so it’s a brand new Heavenly Flame?” The gray-robed youth suddenly understood.

Then, his gaze turned rather complex as he looked at Wei Yang and sighed with emotion. ”I didn’t expect that today, I would be fortunate enough to witness a brand-new Heavenly Flame, and even experience its power firsthand.”

”So it’s called Black Sun Burning Heaven Flame? A fine name! I suppose that day when the ten suns appeared in the skies above the Imperial Capital—that anomaly had something to do with you, right? This Heavenly Flame possesses extraordinary power. To be ranked twenty-fourth... seems a bit unfair.”

Wei Yang replied nonchalantly, ”Rankings are just rankings. They don’t mean much. Besides, that’s only for now. In the future, I’ll naturally make sure it gets the place it deserves.”

”Indeed. It has only just been born. As it gradually reveals its brilliance, it will surely shake the continent, become known to the world, and redefine the rankings,” the gray-robed youth nodded in agreement.

”I suppose I’m the first to contribute to its fame, the first stepping stone on its path,” the gray-robed youth chuckled with a bit of self-mockery—but in truth, his tone held a hint of honor.

”Heh.” Wei Yang let out a soft laugh and said, ”How’s your recovery?”

”Hehe.” The gray-robed youth chuckled. ”At least enough to withstand two or three more rounds of that move you just used.”

”Is that so.” Wei Yang glanced sideways at him.

”Then how about you? How’s your recovery going?” the gray-robed youth asked casually, though he was inwardly tense.

His situation was quite passive.

He couldn’t help but glance toward the direction of the Imperial Capital—he had no idea how his Dou Zong subordinate, Di, was doing.

Probably wouldn’t last much longer. Time was pressing.

”I’ve recovered fairly well too,” Wei Yang responded unyieldingly. ”At the very least, I can still manage to hit you with that move two or three more times.”

”Heh... is that so?” The gray-robed youth gave a dry chuckle. ”So, should we continue chatting then?”

”I’m afraid... that’s no longer possible,” Wei Yang exhaled lightly, sounding slightly regretful.

”What?” The gray-robed youth instantly became alert. In his palms, black currents of energy rapidly emerged and swirled.

These mysterious black streams carried an extraordinarily chilling aura, like a cold current straight from the Nine Netherworlds. One could feel that even their soul would freeze if touched by it.

A ghastly blue-white flame emerged, blending with the black currents. Even the blue-white flame became tinged with threads of pitch-black.

This caused its power to become even more terrifying than before.

Crack, crack, crack—

The surrounding space seemed about to freeze over completely, emitting faint cracking sounds.

Looking closely, one could see a faint layer of black frost subtly spreading through the space around the gray-robed youth.
