High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2744: Chapter 965: Goodwill from the Trident

”Ding! Ding! Ding!”

”The exam time is over, please stop answering and place your papers in the center of the desk, then leave the examination hall in an orderly manner... Supervisors, please collect the papers in the order of exam numbers...”

On the podium, accompanied by the crisp sound of bells, Professor Severus loudly reminded the candidates to leave the room. Under the supervision of two supervisors, the exam papers slowly rose from the desks and silently slipped into the boxes in the supervisors’ arms.

Commissioner Milly stood at the door, watching the candidates exit in an orderly fashion.

It seemed as if there was an invisible barrier on the low threshold, separating the inside from the outside. Inside the barrier, there was only the rustling sound of paper and people’s gentle breathing. Outside, the candidates who had just finished the exam were discussing the uncertain answers on their exam papers in suppressed yet intense voices.

”—Is coral glue classified as an animal glue or a plant glue? I don’t remember any explanation about this in ’The Making of Fu Bullets,’ and why can’t we use the all-purpose glue concocted with magic as the adhesive? Why such an obscure question?”

”—Considering the magic power consumption during the New World frontier wars by the hunting team, often it is much cheaper to concoct glue than to use all-purpose glue, even for simple spells... I mean, even low-level wizards can provide excellent logistical support.”

”—Theoretically, coral glue is derived from the secretion of coral polyps through processing and refining. Coral polyps are animals, so coral glue should be considered an animal glue, and shellac is actually a type of animal glue too...”

”—Wait, why are you all discussing coral glue? Was it on today’s exam? Wasn’t the only adhesive-related question about rosin and Arabic gum?”

”...”

”—Your counter-question is as attention-grabbing as that exam candidate in the red robe.”

”—Speaking of the wizard in the red robe, do you know who he is?”

”—Tsk, anyone who reads the Beta Town Post would recognize him, right? He’s the youngest tutor at the First University, the rumored husband of Goddess Su, a councilor at the Moon Council.”

”—You used to call him ’useless husband’...”

”—Ahem, even if one doesn’t read the Beta Town Post, anyone who’s been to the Spring Hunting at Shanglin Garden should recognize him... at that time, he really gave the little girl from the Tu Shan Clan a hard time on the Magic Stage!”

”—Oh! No wonder... I saw him chatting freely with a few examiners before the exam, completely blatant... Should we report them?”

”—Report what? Do you have any evidence?”

”—Come to think of it, I can understand him being familiar with the school professors, after all, he’s both a student and a tutor... but how is he so familiar with the people from the Trident Sword?”

”—I’ve heard of that Milly, known for being hard to deal with in Trident Sword. But you see how he was chatting and laughing with Zheng Qing earlier, the wrinkles on his face could kill mosquitoes!”

Standing at the door, Milly Wizard glanced unconcernedly at the few silhouettes at the end of the corridor, raised his hand, touched his face, and pondered whether he should buy some Qi Yang oil later.

Retracting his gaze, he also noticed the red robe being discussed was walking to the entrance.

Zheng Qing’s seat was towards the back, so the noise at the front had subsided by the time he left.

Even so, the sudden wave of sound in the corridor made him a little dizzy, and he instinctively paused to adjust his breathing.

Then he felt someone pull his arm.

He turned his head.

It was the invigilator standing at the door.

Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows in surprise.

”Sorry, please wait a moment.”

The high-level Trident Sword commissioner nodded slightly at the young man, then continued to supervise other candidates leaving as if he wasn’t the one who had just spoken.

Zheng Qing didn’t know what was going on, but after hesitating for a few seconds, he decided to stay.

Soon, the candidates in the classroom dispersed completely, and the exam papers in the boxes were sealed by Professor Severus and Commissioner Milly, then carried away by the two supervisors.

”Why are you still here?” The professor noticed the young warlock standing nearby as he exited.

Before Zheng Qing could speak, Commissioner Milly explained, ”I have some official matters to discuss with Zheng Qing... it wasn’t convenient before the exam ended.”

Professor Severus’ gaze paused on both of them, then he took out his pointed hat, placed it on his head, and nodded slightly, ”—Then I won’t disturb you... remember not to be late for the practical exam this afternoon.”

He nodded to Zheng Qing.

Turned around and vanished without a trace.

The corridor finally became empty. Commissioner Milly locked the door, took out his pocket watch to check the time, ”—Hmm, just in time for lunch, care to join me for a meal?”

It never hurts to maintain a good relationship with the invigilator.

Despite his confusion, Zheng Qing agreed obediently.

As an invigilator, Milly could dine at the school cafeteria free of charge. Zheng Qing followed him, listening to his ramblings, gradually understanding the situation.

It seemed that Milly Wizard had not given up on recruiting Zheng Qing for Trident Sword—not only that, but he also seemed to want to recruit the two mouse staff from D&K through him.

”...I heard you’re graduating early at the end of this semester, would you reconsider joining Trident Sword? In the entire Alliance, there aren’t many jobs with benefits and high pay, while also being relatively safe. You have the work experience from the First University and your hunting team... we can also offer priority recruitment to your team’s graduates... if you apply, I can ask Robert to vouch for you and give you a senior commissioner’s position and let you lead an independent investigation group!”

Zheng Qing guessed the Robert he mentioned must be the ’noodle’ director of Trident Sword, Robert Nud, otherwise, it would be unlikely to offer a senior commission position or an independent investigation group structure.

”I’ll think about it,” the young tutor said vaguely, neither agreeing nor refusing, ”Right now, I just want to graduate smoothly, without much energy to spare... You know, the graduation requirements are very high, I’m only in my second year...”

”Understandable, understandable.”

Milly Wizard stirred his French onion soup, paused, then looked up with slight concern, ”Hmm, speaking of energy... do you feel any pressure providing supplies to Trident Sword?”

Zheng Qing shook his head immediately.

”No worries, it’s fine, I can manage that amount of effort.”

Jokingly, he would never give up a job earning over seven hundred jade coins a month, even if he didn’t graduate!

Milly Wizard seemed slightly relieved, ”That’s good, that’s good... last month your Fu bullet delivery was a bit late, missing several tasks... but your Fu bullets are really great, powerful, low in magic pollution, convenient to use and carry... except for being a bit pricey and slightly fewer in quantity, there’s no other downside!”

”The price can’t be lowered anymore!”

Zheng Qing watched the tall skinny wizard warily, remembering Su Shijun’s warning after their agreement at the Greenhill Mansion, ”We have a contract... and the cost to make these Fu bullets is high!”

Like needing to eat an extra bowl of rice.

He hugged his bowl and stuffed his mouth with a big scoop of mashed potatoes.
