High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2713: Chapter 934: Strict Security

”--Amen Tofu Akbar!”

Far away from Thomas’s hidden laboratory, Hilda Tang Alfanso quietly cursed these words.

At this moment, he was standing at the foot of the boys’ dormitory hill, exhausted and with vacant eyes.

This is the mental state of any worker forced to work overtime on weekends. However, what made him utter such fragrant words wasn’t the person assigning him tasks—he didn’t dare—but rather to the tall and thin warlock who had suddenly appeared before him.

Hilda recognized this guy, named Qian Doudou. Like him, he was a member of the ’Zheng Qing Guard Squad’. However, Qian Doudou was the leader of another squad, and his official position was in the office of the Professor Joint Meeting.

”ID card, please.”

The tall, thin warlock stood in front of Hilda with a solemn face, holding a notepad with a law book hanging at his waist. A neatly clipped feather pen hovered straight over the notepad, as if ready to record Hilda’s every word.

”Move aside, I’m very tired right now.”

Hilda yawned, shaking his head weakly.

He had just gone to the boys’ dormitory to replace a new alarm talisman board for those little brats in room 403. He also adjusted the position of the copper mirror hanging from their ceiling to a more suitable detection spot.

None of these were in his job description.

It happened to be the weekend, so he was extremely tired.

”Please show your ID card, thank you.” The tall, thin warlock repeated his request mechanically and indifferently, as if he hadn’t heard Hilda’s words.

This made Mr. Assistant almost think he was talking to an alchemy puppet.

No, even an alchemy puppet wouldn’t be so rigid in response to a wizard’s reasonable request.

”I’m not joking with you, move!”

Hilda waved his hand in irritation, barely restraining himself from saying ”good dogs don’t block the way,” and yawned widely before preparing to bypass the ’pillar’ in front of him.

But he had only taken one step before he had to stop.

The yawn he was halfway through was forced back down.

Because Qian Doudou opened the law book.

”No one’s joking with you, sir.”

The tall, thin warlock had one hand on the law book, magic power fluctuating realistically between his fingers, and held a few standard talismans in the other hand, ready to throw them at any moment: ”--We are on duty! Any wizard entering or leaving dormitory 403 must verify their identity information...”

Nearby, a twin-tailed squirrel foraging under the moonlight sensed the unusual magic fluctuations and immediately fled in panic, swinging its tail. Meanwhile, at the entrance to the dormitory hill not far from the two young wizards, a sleeping bronze beast opened one eye, casting a hostile glance to see who dared disturb its rest.

Hilda widened his eyes, looking at Qian Doudou.

”That’s for others!”

He poked his nose with his finger, as if trying to poke a hole in his face, speaking incredulously: ”But it’s me in front of you now! Hilda! Hilda Tang Alfanso! Your colleague on the same task! In two more hours, we’ll change shifts! Don’t you recognize me?”

The tall, thin warlock glanced at the notepad floating beside his shoulder.

The neatly clipped feather pen was vigorously writing on it.

Hilda could see clearly that the pen seemed to be writing words like ’uncooperative’, ’emotionally agitated’, and ’resistant’.

”It’s a pleasure to be your colleague.”

Qian Doudou withdrew his gaze, his tone seemingly carrying a hint of politeness but still expressionless: ”But these are two different things. The school arranged for us to perform guard duty, which involves checking the people we both know. If ’knowing’ was enough to let you come and go freely, what would be the point of our security codes? Moreover, had I not known you, I would have asked you to state your name first. By the way, show me your assistant badge as well, I need to verify it.”

His reasoning was so sound that Hilda could only begrudgingly accept it.

Thus, with a very bad mood, Mr. Alonso handed over his ID card and assistant badge, quietly cursing those seven words. Originally, he could have spent this vibrant spring weekend with a beautiful witch watching flowers and hiking, but instead, he had to deal with someone more German-like than Thomas.

No one would be in a good mood.

Qian Doudou raised an eyebrow.

”Where did you learn such peculiar prayers?”

He verified the authenticity of the ID card and badge, kindly reminding: ”...If someone from Atlas hears those words, they’ll challenge you to a duel.”

”Gladly!”

Hilda sneered twice, though his momentum visibly weakened. Though Stellarians fear no duel challenges, provoking a bunch of religious fanatics over a few offhand remarks was not the smartest move.

So, he shifted his tone, trying to restore his momentum by questioning: ”...If I remember correctly, we only perform identity checks if the target is in the dormitory. But the target isn’t in the dorm now, is it? Why are you here? Shouldn’t the guard on duty always stay around the target?”

”Expanding the security alert range.”

Qian Doudou handed the verified badge and ID card back to the assistant and simply explained: ”The target is currently doing homework in Thomas’s office, probably won’t be back tonight. It’s safe there, which gives me time to check for unstable factors around here.”

”Checking? Huh? Unstable factors?” Hilda raised his head, an unhappy noise escaping his nose—his intuition told him that this surprise check was certainly related to the pretty copper nails and rings on his face.

It was discrimination!

Naked discrimination!

He thought indignantly, pondering whether he should put in extra effort tonight and write a complaint letter to the School Works Committee.

”Is everything normal in the dormitory?” Qian Doudou handed the notepad to Hilda, signaling him to sign the inspection report, while glancing at the direction of the target dormitory.

Hilda carefully examined the feather pen’s notes—although some phrases were somewhat exaggerated, overall, the records were mostly accurate—in the end, he reluctantly signed his name and lazily replied: ”...Same as always, Prince Yuanzi is always fighting for the pillow with the fatty, Tutankhamun lies in the coffin almost without moving, only the doctor is somewhat reliable, knowing to hand me a cup of tea or a piece of fruit... If you ask me, these guys have no hospitality without the help of sprites! The school should really offer courses on hospitality.”

The ’Prince Yuanzi’ he mentioned was the Fatty Cat Tuan Tuan, and ’Tutankhamun’ referred to Mister Blood Werewolf—Tutankhamun was a pharaoh of Egypt, more famously depicted as lying wrapped in a shroud in a coffin—these nicknames were not official titles used within the guard squad, just informal calls among themselves, akin to certain ’codes’.

”Thank you for your hard work.”

The tall, thin warlock took back the notepad, nodding slightly, performing a spell with one hand: ”...As for hospitality courses, I will suggest it to the Professor Joint Meeting. Lastly, just to correct, the team taking over our shift in two hours is Old Ernest’s guard team, and your shift is from eight in the morning to four in the afternoon tomorrow.”

As he spoke, his figure quietly vanished into the air, as if the conversation with Hilda had been with a mere shadow.

The assistant spat on the ground and also vanished from the spot.
