High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2703: Chapter 924: Missions and Tasks

The school’s somewhat anticlimactic second investigation didn’t cause too much trouble for Zheng Qing.

On the contrary, perhaps due to the recalibration of the dormitory guardian magic, he slept very soundly these past few days; not only was there no nightmare, but his sleep quality improved significantly, often falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow, waking up only to find it was morning. In just three or four days, the spirits of all members of dorm 403 had visibly improved.

Even Zheng Qing felt more energetic and began to consider whether to participate in a private hunt over the weekend to relieve heavy study pressure.

However, before he had a chance to discuss this possibility with Xiao Xiao, another option became available.

Saturday night, after finishing the Abusmo Conjecture—the last class of the week—Zheng Qing was returning to the dormitory when he saw a figure hurriedly passing by.

He could easily recognize it was Thomas from the assistant team.

”Thomas! So late, still handling official duties?” The young assistant cheerfully waved and greeted his former interviewer.

The German halted, hesitantly glanced at him.

Zheng Qing wisely sensed Thomas’s hesitation.

”Is there something I can help with?”

The boy was very enthusiastic—it’s Saturday today, no classes tomorrow for the entire day, and lately, he felt somewhat ’overfed and idle’.

Thomas didn’t immediately respond to the young assistant’s enthusiasm, instead tilting his head and muttering to himself as if talking to someone.

Soon, he looked back at Zheng Qing.

”Uh—”

The warlock from Starry Sky Academy hesitated for a rare moment but eventually nodded and quickly said, ”The assistant team has a temporary secret mission requiring two people to cooperate... I was planning to find someone elsewhere, but since I bumped into you... do you have other tasks tonight?”

Zheng Qing instantly perked up.

He was a legitimate assistant team member and fully qualified to carry out such tasks!

As for tonight—with this period, he had to do small hand tasks before bed every night, but it wasn’t mandatory. Compared to the monotonous and tedious rune plate etching work, the assistant team’s temporary secret mission was far more attractive.

”I have, I have... no, I don’t have!”

He answered incoherently, eagerly raising his hand, hastily explaining, ”I mean, I have time... no other tasks tonight, all day tomorrow!”

Thomas tugged at the corner of his mouth, squeezing out a smile.

”Couldn’t be better.” He lightly muttered, waving for Zheng Qing to follow him, ”First, we need to go to the office building...”

...

...

Zheng Qing didn’t know that when he paused and waved to greet Thomas, a plump wizard walking a small dog nearby was lowering his head, holding his ear with one hand, glancing sideways at him.

”Warning, warning, the target seems to plan contact with a third party,” the plump wizard briefly paused, then added in a professional tone, ”Third-party identity confirmed, it’s Thomas.”

The dog at his feet confirmed his statement with a snort.

”Which Thomas?” His ear picked up the captain’s slightly tired voice, ”The one from the assistant team? Confirm identity yet?”

The plump wizard silently grimaced—even though he didn’t know where his captain was, he was sure the captain was nearby and could clearly see Thomas.

No need to ask these questions.

Meanwhile, another witch’s voice came through his ear: ”It’s Thomas from the assistant team, confirmed with code language first thing...”

The plump wizard leading the dog also noticed Thomas speaking sideways, staying vigilant despite his speechlessness, skillfully connecting to the school’s guardian arrays, ensuring everything was under control.

Though unaware who the target provoked—using ’again’ because he knew about this First University’s troublesome figure, whether participating in the Black Prison big event, rumors as Su Councilor’s scandalous husband, or as a prominent figure or Shanglin Garden, he had heard—he also didn’t know why the school would send elite like him, protecting this student with five classes a day and a packed schedule.

But he knew, a mission is a mission.

According to task procedures, every actual contact with the target had to be verified and recorded—whether confirmed three ways or directly; recorded listings included school wizards, magical creatures from Silent Forest, and twin-tailed squirrels dropping on the target’s head.

After days of guarding, the plump wizard unexpectedly found this student Zheng Qing performing much better than his reputation in school; except for frequent contacts with a Jiang Family girl, he ignored any witches attempting to strike up conversation, far from the flirtaceous reputation widely discussed.

If one must say what’s different about this child compared to other Jiuyou Academy students, it’s the sheer number of classes every week, daily classes totaling fifteen hours long. Since time converter couldn’t be applied, the Guard Team arranged two protection squads simultaneously outside different classrooms for this intensely studying individual.

The witch continued speaking in his ear: ”Though Thomas isn’t on duty now, he’s a Guard Team member, familiar with our safety protocols... Do we need to stop his contact with the target?”

The captain paused for a few seconds.

The plump wizard heard only heavy breathing.

A moment later, the captain’s voice spoke again, ”—Can you hear what Thomas is saying?”

”Position Two can’t monitor.” The plump wizard promptly reported.

”Position Three can’t either.” The witch’s voice reflected a more specific reason, ”Both the target and Thomas are assistant team members; during contact, assistant badges activate, automatically creating standard magic shield. Short-term eavesdropping is impossible... forcibly breaking the magic barrier will alert parties involved.”

”That’d be too rude!” muttered the plump wizard.

The captain remained silent.

He noticed Zheng Qing changed the expected route, now following Thomas towards the First University office building direction, feeling somewhat irritated.

Most annoying during protection missions are situations deviating from the plan.

”Maintain distance... normal monitoring, no additional contact needed.”

He finally issued this order.

Though this surprise was annoying, ultimately Thomas belonged to another guard squad, having him alongside Zheng Qing saved much effort, allowing careful screening of other suspicious figures around.
