High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2467: Chapter 688: Busy Saturday

After the morning class ended, Zheng Qing returned to the dormitory for lunch.

That’s right, having just attempted to eat two meals openly in the cafeteria, he had to hide back in the dormitory due to the presence of the Seven Sins.

Like a snail that pops its head out of its shell after the rain, only to quickly retract at any hint of fright.

”The incident this morning was purely accidental.”

Xiao Xiao was holding a copy of Dr. Spencer Black’s ”Thieves of the Dead” while fiddling with a miniature skeleton model of a Sphinx on the table, completely ignoring his companion who was eating on the other side: ”... That witch is a freshman in Alpha, Zhang Yudou, she seems to have some relation with the Zhang family, according to the True Word Stone’s assessment, she was indeed practicing the ’Wind Spell’ at the time... Don’t worry, I’ve done toxicology tests on all those dishes, there’s absolutely no problem!”

Zheng Qing lightly coughed, pretending not to see Xiao Xiao’s eye roll, and insisted on poking each lunchbox with a Magic Silver Needle.

”The True Word Stone isn’t always reliable either.”

He put away the silver needle and continued the previous topic lightly: ”Like the Silence Contract, I’ve violated it many times without any trouble... By the way, which Zhang family is she related to?”

Xiao Xiao raised an eyelid, casting a glance over the top of his glasses at the guy who started eating, looking quite speechless.

”Don’t treat your special case as the general rule. There aren’t that many convention-breakers in the world,” he said, retracting his gaze and directing the Sphinx skeleton to walk slowly across the table while sketching a diagram of the bone movement on the parchment, shaking his head: ”As for the Zhang family... how many Zhang families do you know?”

Zheng Qing’s chopsticks paused in mid-air, holding some scrambled eggs.

”Zhang Ji Xin? Uncle Zhang Zhi? Their Tianmen Zhang family? The legendary Zhang Family of Dragon Slayers?” The young public student looked incredulous: ”That little Bean Bean is related to the Elders? You can’t tell at all! How come the Elders never mentioned his sister studying at Alpha?”

Recalling the petite and adorable figure he encountered in the morning, Zheng Qing shook his head and took a big bite of the bun.

”Don’t randomly assign relationships to people!”

Doctor Xiao finally couldn’t help but put down ”Thieves of the Dead” and adjusted his glasses: ”Who told you that being young automatically makes someone a sister? The blood relations among the wizards of noble families are intricate and complex, even professional researchers in Emblem Studies sometimes have difficulty understanding all the relationships. Isn’t it strange that the Elders don’t know they have a distant relative? Or, even if they do know, it’s common for senior relations not to be closely involved. Just like Dylan, Tabbot, and O’Brien are from prestigious families of the Moon Council, but have you seen him introducing relatives from those families to us?”

Zheng Qing nodded like a chick pecking at rice, then lifted the seaweed egg drop soup, gesturing apologetically.

Xiao Xiao was unmoved, his expression serious: ”...Also, when the accident happened this morning, what were you planning to do when you pulled out the Charm Gun? Blast a big hole in her head? Are you crazy?”

”Hey... reflex, purely reflex reaction.” The young public student chuckled dryly, using the bowl to cover most of his face to hide the embarrassed expression at the moment.

”Whether it’s reflex, recklessness, or your belief in your own quick reactions, the fact is, pulling out a Charm Gun on a classmate in broad daylight, especially on campus, is something only a madman would do! Ultimately, the Seven Sins are just a secret society trying to be sneaky, they don’t have enough power to gather too many wizards against you, so don’t be overly paranoid or on edge.”

At this point, Xiao Xiao slightly softened his tone, making his attitude very clear: ”Furthermore, you should know that casually pulling out a Law book in front of classmates on campus is a very serious offense... Today, if it weren’t for that young girl being flustered and reckless, you might already have received a disciplinary warning from the School Works Committee!”

”Judging by her personality, she does seem like a relative of Zhang Ji Xin.” Zheng Qing grabbed the bun, chewing thoughtfully, and nodded slightly.

”This is not a joke!” Doctor Xiao’s face turned a bit dark: ”If you want to graduate smoothly, you’d better bury your head under your wing, like a frightened quail!”

”Absolutely no problem!” Zheng Qing promised with a determined look.

To this, Xiao Xiao expressed doubt.

...

...

The three classes on Saturday afternoon—’Introduction to Dimension Theory,’ ’Convergence Principle,’ and ’Abus Duo Conjecture’—aren’t part of the regular teaching curriculum but are small classes aimed at higher-tier researchers with more advanced professional skills.

Among them, ’Convergence Principle’ and ’Abus Duo Conjecture’ actually have only Zheng Qing as the student.

The young teaching assistant had no doubt that these subjects were specifically arranged by Old Yao to supplement his understanding of Dimensionism and strengthen his grasp on the basics of Forbidden Curses.

The teachers for these courses weren’t assigned by the Professor Joint Meeting, but designated by the ’relevant departments.’

For instance, ’Convergence Principle’ and ’Abus Duo Conjecture,’ with only one student, naturally have only one teacher, and this teacher happens to be a ’familiar face’ to Zheng Qing—the Master Bao Yangzi, who had handed him the time-switching hourglass not long ago.

Given this.

After the first class of ’Introduction to Dimension Theory’ ended, when converting through time to go to the ’Convergence Principle’ class, Zheng Qing felt somewhat nervous, as if facing the Abyss, treading on thin ice.

To avoid being caught by Master Bao Yangzi slipping up during time conversion, every move the young wizard made was carefully considered, every step taken cautiously.

If it weren’t for the outstanding effects of the ’Joy Substance’ in the morning, Zheng Qing might have already collapsed under the heavy psychological pressure.

But the effects of the magic potion are limited in duration.

The effects of the Joy Substance lasted until the end of the fourth class in the afternoon, when Jiang Yu came to find him, finally losing effectiveness. The good news was, the witch’s arrival brought him seamlessly into another good mood; the bad news was, he didn’t have time for dinner.

The day before in Alchemy class, the two had agreed to visit Doctor Du Zemu in Beta Town that afternoon.

Given the tight one-hour gap between afternoon and evening classes, the schedule became particularly tight, so the two of them ate the salted meat sandwich Zheng Qing prepared as they walked —of course, if they arranged the visit after their evening classes were over, it would seem more relaxing, but that would mean delaying until after nine in the evening, and visiting at that time would be quite rude.
