High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2456: Chapter 677: Tardiness and Mistakes

The Art of Body Transformation, as an advanced course in transformation magic, was originally not open to underclassmen because the prerequisite for studying it was that a wizard must first master transformation magic.

Even many fourth-year veteran students rarely manage to master this profound magic.

Zheng Qing learning transformation magic was purely accidental.

When he first entered university as a freshman, his head ailment, which had been dormant for over ten years, suddenly reoccurred. The campus hospital and the school’s experienced professors searched for the cause for a long time but found nothing. Ultimately, using the simplest and most straightforward method, they taught Zheng Qing the transformation magic that wizards use to evade disasters.

To use an inappropriate analogy, it’s like someone with a foot ache receiving a prescription to replace it with a healthy foot. The reasoning may not be correct, but it indeed cured the foot ache.

In a twist of fate, Zheng Qing began to practice transformation magic.

At first, he needed the power of magic potions to cast transformation magic, with each transformation requiring one transformation potion, which was very expensive. Old Yao once comforted Zheng Qing by telling him that the cost of his transformations was covered by the student health insurance. However, according to Zheng Qing’s discreet inquiries, other scholarship students did not seem to enjoy such good healthcare coverage.

Of course, other scholarship students seemingly never had headaches that the campus hospital couldn’t solve.

As he transformed more often, Zheng Qing’s understanding of transformation magic deepened. Gradually, he no longer needed to actually consume the transformation potion to transform. Eventually, he just needed to look at the potion or think about it to successfully transform. In simpler terms, he mastered the art of transformation through ’muscle memory.’

Knowing the ”how” but not the ”why.”

When submitting his course schedule before the semester began, Zheng Qing didn’t fill in ’The Art of Body Transformation,’ but instead chose ’Transformation Magic,’ intending to easily earn three credits.

However, after the course schedule made a round in Old Yao’s hands, an adjective was added in front of ’Transformation Magic,’ and the course difficulty unexpectedly increased for Zheng Qing.

Luckily, Old Yao modified the schedules of both young wizards simultaneously, giving the boy some comfort amidst his frustration.

”... I’ve heard that there are few students opting for this course, and it’s taught in small classes. The professor responsible, Vincent de Ruit, hails from Europa and seems to be a Celtic wizard. He has a somewhat rigid nature, and it’s said his classroom rules are strict, but in fact, he’s not yet fifty years old... Of course, the teachers who teach transformation magic don’t seem to be very old.”

On the way to the classroom, Zheng Qing muttered the ’intel’ he had gleaned from Xiao Xiao, while counting a stack of invisibility talismans and handing them to the witch: ”Here, just drew them during the recent exam proctoring. Use them first later... I bet we’ll lose participation points today... hope the classroom door is open.”

Because the previous class was outside the campus, and being a teacher, Zheng Qing got stuck answering many questions from other students after class. By the time he was ready to perform time conversion, half an hour had already passed since class ended.

In other words, even if he performed the time conversion immediately, there was no way he could reach the Body Transformation class on time.

The good news was, Jiang Yu hadn’t left him to attend the class alone but waited in the classroom until he wrapped things up, and they returned to campus together.

The bad news was, what was originally one person’s tardiness turned into two people’s tardiness now.

The witch took the stack of talisman paper, catching a glimpse of the Haha Beads on the boy’s wrist, and her lips curled slightly.

”Professor de Ruit’s father is a German wizard, and his mother is a Celtic wizard. His transformation magic is inherited from his mother, a powerful Norse Druid,”

Jiang Yu seemed unfazed by them both being late, happily sharing tidbits she knew, her tone lightly tinged with gossip: ”I suspect his mother was interested in the Ruit Family’s surname, which led her to meet his father... Well, don’t repeat this in front of others, it would seem quite impolite.”

Zheng Qing glanced sideways at her, making a zipping motion across his lips with a determined expression.

The witch couldn’t help but laugh: ”If it weren’t for you, I probably would have never had the chance to share such guesses with anyone... It feels surprisingly good to speak it out loud now!”

Her laughter seemed a little unruly.

But Zheng Qing inexplicably felt in a good mood.

”Don’t flirt in the academic building!” a dwarf leaning on a long axe tugged at his beard, glaring viciously at the two young wizards passing by, roaring loudly, ”This is a holy land of learning! And everyone else is in class, why are you still outside the classroom? This is an utter disrespect for learning...”

”Oh, don’t blame them, Maxim.” From the other side of the corridor, a plump old lady in an oval-framed portrait lifted her monocle, looked down, and smiled kindly: ”Everyone has a time when they were young... It’s the first week of school, it’s been less than ten minutes in class, the teacher won’t blame you...”

Jiang Yu suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Almost simultaneously, Zheng Qing raised his hand in front of his eyes.

”Oh, Merlin above.” The girl rarely showed a hint of panic, glancing around before slapping her forehead: ”How could I forget invisibility...”

”It’s not your fault, I forgot too.” Zheng Qing looked at the clearly visible palm lines in the sunlight, his face scrunched up, sounding weary: ”I even just gave you a stack of invisibility talismans...”

According to the initial time conversion agreement the two had signed, after time conversion, they should not have any contact with any beings on the new timeline to avoid impacting the future and causing unforeseen consequences.

”Are portraits considered life forms?” Zheng Qing asked, somewhat anxiously, as he activated an invisibility talisman on himself.

Jiang Yu disappeared into the corridor a step earlier than him.

”They can convey information, so does it matter if they’re considered life forms or not?” came the witch’s muffled voice from the air: ”According to the theory of information unification, this behavior already constitutes a very clear ’disturbance.’

As they spoke, they both accelerated their pace towards the classroom.

In the corridor behind them, the dwarf, unable to find his target, jumped and cursed, and the old lady in the oval frame also muttered a few complaints about the young wizards’ unannounced departure.

”Danghag wouldn’t summon us for such a trivial matter, would they?” Zheng Qing asked with concern, disregarding the small commotion behind him.

”Probably not,” the witch’s voice carried a hint of uncertainty, sounding slightly annoyed: ”But I can’t say the same for the school. Those portraits are quite gossipy... It must be the frequent time conversions lately that have made us a little confused!”

”It must be!” Zheng Qing nodded vigorously, then let out a heavy sigh: ”It’s just the first week of school... maybe things will get better once we get used to it.”
