Chapter 2462: Chapter 683: Troubles You Can’t Escape Even as a Cat

When the white cat arrived under the Cat Fruit Tree, the black cat was narrowing its eyes, listening to the nighttime symphony.

The evening breeze brushed past the treetops, wove through the neatly trimmed shrubs below, creating a rustling sound that formed the background of the symphony.

In the distance, frog croaks came from the lakeside of Bell Lake. They had just crawled out of the mud holes after a long winter and sounded a bit breathless, yet their voices were full of the joy of new life; nearby, there were the low hums of insects under the grasses and shrubs. Honestly, the black cat couldn’t distinguish the sounds of the katydids, bell crickets, or grasshoppers and tree crickets, it only felt that within the cacophony, a surprisingly soothing harmony flowed.

And there were birds singing melodiously under the moonlight.

The gently swaying water of the lake was tranquil.

Occasional hints of human voices floated by.

Even the twinkling stars in the sky, the bright moon overhead, and the moist mist—these silent sceneries seemed to open their mouths, all surrounding the black cat, making the tip of its tail curl up comfortably.

Dozens of cats, large and small, hung on the branches, swaying in the wind, their meows rising one after another, unlike their usual silence. The black cat didn’t mind, perhaps it knew that now, as winter ends and spring begins, is the season when the cats start to get restless.

A few new female cats perched on delicate branches not far from the black cat, curled up, with innocent big eyes, blinking at the black cat, meowing softly.

The black cat remained unmoved.

Only when the slender leg of the Polygoni Multiflori at its feet was about to slip out of its ’throne’, did it lift its eyelids and use its paw to push it back a little.

This Polygoni Multiflori was the gift the black cat intended to give the little white cat tonight.

It wasn’t bought, nor was it an offering from the cat group; it was accidentally caught by the black cat on its way to the Cat Fruit Tree tonight. At that time, this seasoned Polygoni Multiflori was squatting at a shallow puddle, slyly washing its densely tangled legs. When the black cat’s paw pressed on its head, it was stunned for a second, then began to play dead.

Thus, the black cat easily packaged it and brought it to the Cat Fruit Tree.

To be honest, although such seasoned herbs were rare in the academic institute, they were not particularly precious. Especially Polygoni Multiflori which transforms slowly, its appearance quite blurred before it truly forms, making it hard to distinguish its nose from its eyes, not favored by the witches.

In comparison, the screaming Mandala Grass which resembles a dwarf has become synonymous with handsome.

The reason the black cat caught it onto the Cat Fruit Tree with great enthusiasm was that on top of this Polygoni Multiflori, grew a four-leaf clover. To wizards, four-leaf clovers are a symbol of luck.

Encountering such a symbiotic elf truly is delightful.

When the black cat turned back the Polygoni Multiflori attempting to escape for the seventh time, its narrowed eyes suddenly widened, it stood up, twitched its tail, and leaned down to look below.

The chorus of the group of cats abruptly stopped.

Even the night breeze, moonlight, and the omnipresent insect and bird calls quieted down simultaneously.

Everything suddenly fell silent.

Under the black cat’s gaze, a little white cat wearing a small backpack crossed through the shrubs and low grass, leisurely arriving under the Cat Fruit Tree, not climbing up, just looking up at the black cat.

The black cat grabbed the Polygoni Multiflori with a paw, swiftly rolling off its throne, gleefully approaching the little white cat’s side. Only then did the surrounding bird calls, insect buzzes, and meows sound again.

Nearing the Lantern Festival, tonight’s moonlight was beautiful, bright and clear, infusing the night with a sense of transparency. And under such an environment, the little white cat seemed to be adorned with a thin veil of white gauze, each strand of fur sparkling with crystal clarity, making the black cat irresistibly want to lick it.

The white cat used its gaze to halt the restless black cat, extended its paw, received the Polygoni Multiflori, gazed at the four-leaf clover on top of it, satisfied nodded, turned, and stowed it into its small backpack.

Then, under the dazed gaze of the black cat, she took out two books from the small backpack on her back. One was Andrew’s ”Monster Anatomy”, the other was Erich’s ”Hunting Team Command”.

She first pushed the book ”Monster Anatomy” towards the black cat, opened the bookmark inside, pointed to a Chapter titled ’Francine the Doll of a Girl’ as well as another Chapter ’Genealogy of Sprites’, signaling the black cat to look, then she pushed the book ”Hunting Team Command” to herself, engrossed opening it up, laying in the moonlight to read.

The black cat blinked.

This seemed different from the date he imagined?

He remembered the little white cat’s schedule clearly, ”Hunting Team Command” was her first lesson the next morning.

As for this ”Monster Anatomy”, the black cat flipped through it, becoming somewhat enlightened. It should be a book about anomalous evolution linked to sprites given by the little white cat for him.

Though, however.

It’s a hassle that you can’t shake off even when changing into a cat.

Perhaps after transforming into a cat his patience had somewhat declined, just flipping through a few pages, the black cat began to feel a bit restless, so curling his tail, cautiously suggested: ”Do you want to go up the tree to read? The moonlight is brighter up there.”

The white cat reproached him with a glance.

The intention revealed from her eyes was very clear—wind is stronger on the tree, surrounded with cats meowing, and with his ’throne’ being limited in size, is there any more room for a cat to comfortably read a book?

”I can’t read for too long,” the black cat fished out a ruby ring from beneath his neck, gesturing: ”Look, this is the secret society I mentioned...there’s a gathering later.”

The white cat didn’t lift her head, flicked her ear, gesturing for him to go ahead, while she remained focused on the textbook before her.

”Has Li Meng gone to sleep?” After just a few minutes, the black cat couldn’t resist again, finding something to talk about: ”... You could actually call her here for a late-night study session... It’s so quiet here.”

This time, the white cat didn’t even bother to respond.

Then, the black cat felt a slight itch in his tail, looking back, it was the few new female cats hanging nearby him earlier, who boldly followed down from the tree, currently cautiously fiddling with his tail, seemingly wanting to strike a conversation yet feeling a bit awkward?

The black cat truly didn’t understand, cats who already start playing with someone else’s tail feeling embarrassed.

He hadn’t planned how to handle it.

A white flash suddenly crossed his eye corner.

The next moment, the little white cat who was focusing on reading appeared behind the black cat, with a dignified gaze staring at those new female cats, without a word.

The group cat concert on the Cat Fruit Tree stopped once more.

This time, even the black cat held its breath in fright.

However, those female cats didn’t seem too terrified, only seemed to understand that the sleek black cat before their eyes had already had an owner, disappointing murmurs among themselves, left dejectedly.
