Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2448: Chapter 2384: A Tragedy

Hearing these words, Chiang Xiao felt that Zhu Shun surely spoke out of anger at that time.

It was evident that Zhu Shun at that time truly loved being a special forces team member, which is why he devoted himself entirely to the Alliance District and hadn’t returned home for five years.

His wife wanted him to quit the team and come back to farm; of course, he was angry.

Perhaps at that time, he was also indignant, thinking that a woman willing to marry someone not present was definitely not what he wanted.

So he got angry at her.

”Unexpectedly, his wife took his words to heart. Her health was not very good, and she couldn’t do much farm work, so she made food to sell in town, leaving before dawn and walking far on mountainous paths, selling until dusk, then walking home.”

”Later, she found out she was really pregnant and remembered Zhu Shun’s words, thinking she couldn’t use the child to avoid work or rely on the two elders for support, so she continued with her business.”

As Meng Xinian spoke until here, his face grew somber.

Chiang Xiao and Wang Yi exchanged a glance; they were both women and could better empathize with Sister-in-law Zhu’s sorrow and hardships at that time.

Chiang Xiao could understand even more.

Because she too lived in a small mountain village, and if she walked to town, it would take quite a distance.

Fortunately, there were still ox carts to ride in their village.

But some villagers, to save a few pennies, would choose to walk there and back.

She had seen children walking back and forth themselves, their feet blistered.

But at the thought of buying some snacks in town, they felt very happy.

That’s the helplessness of people from the mountain village.

If Sister-in-law Zhu was pregnant and had to carry goods over such a distance, wouldn’t it be very tiring?

Indeed, as Meng Xinian continued, Sister-in-law Zhu met with misfortune.

One night while walking slowly and halfway home in the dark, she encountered a thug who attacked her, and she lost the child.

Sister-in-law Zhu was found afterward but couldn’t be saved.

When Zhu Shun learned of this, both his father and mother couldn’t bear the shock; they rushed to the thug’s home seeking justice but got beaten instead.

Later, that thug feared they’d go to town or the city to report him and have him arrested, so he burned the Zhu Family’s home at night.

Upon hearing this, Chiang Xiao clenched her fists tightly, gritting her teeth.

Wang Yi’s eyes were red.

”What about Brother Shun’s father and mother?”

”Both died, burned to death,” Meng Xinian said heavily, ”When he first received the telegram of his parents’ passing, Zhu Shun thought they were using an old trick to deceive him back home, so he delayed a few days before returning.”

”Oh my God.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Yi gasped.

Because the previous time, Zhu Shun’s parents had tricked him, claiming to be gravely ill to coax him back; this time, Zhu Shun didn’t believe them.

Wang Yi’s face turned a bit pale, ”Knowing the truth, wouldn’t Brother Shun be on the verge of breakdown?”

”Yes. He wanted to kill that thug, so he applied to leave the team directly, knowing he couldn’t do such a thing while still wearing that uniform.”

This is why Zhu Shun wanted to leave the team.

And indeed, at the time, he left without any hesitation.

And told no one the reason.

Chiang Xiao frowned and asked, ”Did he eventually kill that person?”
