Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 1049: Chapter 492: Too Full of Himself

Anyway, Mrs. Foster also brought a chef, so his ”final” role for Lawrence Winters was gone, and it was better for him to leave.

Kenneth Osborne thought to himself in defeat, and before finishing lunch, he had already found a hotel room and was ready to move out.

After everyone finished eating, they took Evan Stetford’s car back to Quentin Parker’s house.

Evan Stetford didn’t get out of the car and waved to them, ”Have fun, I need to go back.”

Most of the Stetford family’s investments are in the Eastern Region, and the judging committee and organizing committee for this Celestial Path Sect competition are also in the Eastern Region, so they can’t stay in Western California all the time.

”Take care, Evan.”

”Thank you, Evan, I’ll treat you to dinner when you return to the country.”

They waved at him and watched his car leave.

Edward Foster had already returned beforehand and should be sleeping now.

Mrs. Foster hurried to check on him, nodded to Lawrence Winters, and went inside.

Outside, only Lawrence Winters, Kenneth Osborne, and Abigail Henderson remained.

Abigail Henderson saw Kenneth Osborne looked like he had something to say to Lawrence Winters, so she quickly said, ”I’ll go inside to organize some materials. I had a great chat with Mr. Osborne today, learned a lot I previously didn’t understand, thank you, Mr. Osborne.”

She nodded to Lawrence Winters and turned to go inside.

The grandiose palace building had a vast and distant porch with intricately carved images even on the massive stone pillars.

Kenneth Osborne inserted his hands into his pockets and smiled faintly at Lawrence Winters, ”Nora, I think it’s better if I move out. My staying here will only cause trouble for you.”

Lawrence Winters stared at him in surprise and blurted out, ”If you leave, who will cook for me?”

”In your mind, am I only here to cook for you?” Kenneth Osborne had a new, direct understanding of his position in Lawrence Winters’ heart.

He was indeed overestimating himself.

But why?

He placed her in the most important spot in his heart, and this is how she treated him?

No wonder divorce was so easy for her to speak of.

Lawrence Winters shook her head awkwardly, ”Of course not, but weren’t you living well here? You weren’t causing trouble for me... Is it because of Mrs. Foster and Edward Foster? But you also have Abigail Henderson moving in...”

Kenneth Osborne’s face grew cold, and he shifted his gaze, speaking icily, ”You’re comparing Attorney Han to someone like Edward Foster, that’s insulting Attorney Han. She hasn’t pursued a married man.”

”... Edward Foster didn’t pursue me before our divorce either.” Lawrence Winters’ face turned somber, ”You heard it yourself just now, his mother, Mrs. Foster, personally helped him to secure an opportunity, and he himself asked me to allow him to court me. You know, I’ve already divorced, I don’t have a boyfriend, let alone a fiancé; a man of good character, good to me, and handsome, says he wants to court me, what reason do I have to refuse?”

”You’re right, you’re always right, it’s only others who are wrong. You have no reason to refuse. You simply take comfort in enjoying the kindness of others, being the little princess surrounded by stars, and we mere mortals just aren’t worthy of a princess like you.” Kenneth Osborne saw Lawrence Winters still speaking for Edward Foster, completely forgetting that Edward was the main culprit of their divorce!

His anger was almost explosive; his lips trembled, his voice increasingly low, speaking impulsively: ”... Lawrence, you disappointed me so much. How are you any different from Ruby Sheldon?!”

Lawrence Winters erupted in anger.

Comparing her to Ruby Sheldon, of all people, was simply disgusting!

She also got upset and retorted, ”Now you think Ruby Sheldon is good? Ha, then go chase her! The daughter of the Wealthiest, if you catch her, you can save yourself thirty years of struggle!”

”Lawrence Winter, do you think I’m undesirable, and assume I’ll chase others? — Besides you, who else have I chased?!” Kenneth Osborne sneered, ”If I wanted, I could simply beckon with my finger, and people would queue from California to New York waiting for my approval!”

Lawrence Winters scoffed and retorted sharply, ”Oh, and what kind of tone is that? Finally revealing your true thoughts? You chasing me was doing me a favor, it was condescending? I never knew until you said it!”

”It’s not too late for you to know now!” Kenneth Osborne’s inner string snapped under Lawrence Winter’s mocking expression.

He didn’t know how this situation arose; their relationship was improving, but suddenly those two arrived, and Lawrence’s attitude changed.

He couldn’t compete with those two, he truly couldn’t...

The gap was too wide.

Though he had transcended class, his family hadn’t, nor could he bring them along to transcend class.

On the other hand, the other family even opened their arms to accept Lawrence Winters, while he had nothing?

Absolutely nothing.

Kenneth Osborne’s emotions fluctuated, and seeing Lawrence’s surprised and somewhat aggrieved expression, he closed his eyes momentarily and said quietly, ”I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way, I never thought chasing you was a favor, nor was it condescending. I just... I just feel so hurt, Nora, how did we become like this? If we returned to our student days, would there be no quarrels?”

”But we’ve already graduated, no one can stay in their student days forever.” Lawrence Winters said dazedly, realizing she couldn’t follow Kenneth’s reasoning.

Just now, she was so angry, she said things she didn’t mean, angering Kenneth Osborne, causing him to say things he didn’t mean either, she understood all that.

But Kenneth Osborne had still shut his heart off to her, making it impossible for her to sense his true feelings anymore.

She stood at the door and watched Kenneth Osborne turn and enter the house.

After a while, Kenneth Osborne came out of the house with a laptop bag and a small suitcase.

He hadn’t expected Lawrence Winters to still be standing at the door, and his expression was forlorn, like a child lost and unable to find their way home.

Kenneth Osborne felt a pang of softness, wondering if he was being overly harsh, but as soon as it occurred, he heard Mrs. Foster open the window upstairs and say with a smile, ”Lawrence, what do you want to eat tonight? My chef has arrived at the airport, I’ll have him buy some dishes you like.”

Such a considerate mother-in-law is truly rare.

Kenneth Osborne thought of his own unreliable parents and took a deep breath.

Really, comparing oneself to others can be infuriating.
