Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 1008: Chapter 477: Hugging the Big Leg (First Update, Please Vote for Recommendation Ticket!)

”Hmm, but she passed away at a young age... an accident happened...” Quentin Parker’s mood was a bit downcast.

”Sorry.” Evan Stetford quickly apologized, realizing he had touched upon Quentin Parker’s sad past.

Quentin Parker waved his hand, ”It’s nothing, it was many years ago, I’ve almost forgotten.”

He remembered that after losing his sister, he was in a slump and came here to take his mind off things.

After staying for a few years, he returned to inherit the family business.

Upon returning, his father and enemy perished together, but he was severely injured and took a long time to recover.

The doctors said his brain was damaged and he needed good rest.

He also felt like there was something wrong with his brain.

Now seeing Lawrence Winters, he involuntarily associated her with the small figure in his heart.

Lawrence Winters sensed Quentin Parker’s mood dip.

This was the very person she promised her mentor Ian Lothrop to take care of...

Although he seemed capable and had status, even Ruby Sheldon’s notorious father treated him with great respect.

Lawrence Winters’ eyes turned, deciding to cozy up to Quentin Parker, so she wouldn’t have to worry about offending Ruby Sheldon and her notorious father...

She smiled warmly and attentively said to Quentin Parker, ”Mr. Parker’s sister must have been very cute, very smart, and very obedient.”

Quentin Parker smiled, ”Cute and smart, yes, but she wasn’t obedient at all.”

He remembered her mischievous childhood, the times she was adventurous, which gave people a headache.

Under Lawrence Winters’ gentle persuasion, Quentin Parker unconsciously opened up to her, sharing many anecdotes about his ”sister.”

Abigail Henderson wasn’t interested in Quentin Parker’s family matters, so she took the opportunity to talk with Kenneth Osborne to understand her client better.

”Mr. Osborne, about your case, can you tell me what exactly is going on?”

Kenneth Osborne responded to Abigail Henderson while watching Lawrence Winters and Quentin Parker talking, ”Well, I wrote a special effects production software with artificial intelligence. But a foreign company claims I used their patented software and infringed on their rights. But I can assure you, I’ve never used their patent.”

”...But looking at the materials, the opponent claims they found identical core fragments of their software in yours, and there’s even the author’s signature in it?”

”Yes.” Kenneth Osborne nodded with a wry smile, ”I really have no idea how that happened, but they did find it. But I truly didn’t... Let’s say I really did infringe and used their patent, but would I be so foolish as to include the author’s signature in it? Wouldn’t I delete it?”

Abigail Henderson chuckled, ”Perhaps you were negligent?”

”...Others might be, but I absolutely wouldn’t. I wrote this software line by line myself. Nora was present at the time, she saw me write it.”

”Hmm, but in intellectual property lawsuits, ’eyewitness evidence’ doesn’t count.”

Kenneth Osborne sighed, ”I know, but I didn’t do it—that’s just how it is, and I will fight to the end.”

”But the opponent’s evidence is solid...” Abigail Henderson didn’t finish her sentence before Kenneth Osborne interrupted.

”Ms. Henderson, you are the lawyer, my representative. You’re supposed to question whether their evidence is solid, yet you question me?” Kenneth Osborne’s expression faded.

Because of this lawsuit, he was forced to read the English version of intellectual property law.

Not to argue in court, but so that when the lawyer speaks, he wouldn’t be totally clueless.

Abigail Henderson raised an eyebrow, her assessment of Kenneth Osborne rose another notch.

He’s someone who knows what he’s doing and what others should do.

She was merely evaluating whether Kenneth Osborne was innocent or guilty in this matter.

As a top lawyer, fully understanding the client is key to winning.

Despite their first-place national ranking, countless experienced lawyers have failed because of their clients.

”I understand now, I’ll write a memorandum in a few days so we can align our understanding. As long as Mr. Osborne hasn’t done it, there must be loopholes in the opponent’s evidence.” Abigail Henderson said confidently.

Kenneth Osborne’s demeanor relaxed slightly.

His assessment of Abigail Henderson also improved.

She was the first person to tell him that as long as he hadn’t done it, there must be loopholes in the opponent’s evidence.

He appreciated this kind of logical deduction, meticulous yet convincing.

On the other side of the dinner table, Quentin Parker had finished sharing the amusing stories about his sister, Lawrence Winters was now recounting her childhood ”embarrassments.”

”...Mr. Parker, you wouldn’t believe it, I was famous as the unlucky kid in my hometown. I was truly the kind to choke on water, meet robbers when going out, and dislocate my shoulder while jumping rope...”

Quentin Parker laughed heartily, ”...so unlucky? Why didn’t you find someone with good luck to shield you?”

Evan Stetford chimed in, ”Mr. Parker, since you get along so well with Lawrence, why not take her as your god-sister?”

Evan Stetford also thought, if Quentin Parker could indeed shield Lawrence Winters, there’d be no worry about Ruby Sheldon causing trouble.

Lawrence Winters was overjoyed, her eyes sparking as she looked at Quentin Parker, ”...Do I have this honor, Mr. Parker?”

Quentin Parker squinted at her for a moment and said, ”Sure, as long as Ms. Winters doesn’t mind.”

”I don’t mind, I don’t mind! Just call me Lawrence!” Lawrence Winters saw the opportunity and immediately offered to pour Quentin Parker some wine.

Quentin Parker let her pour the wine and said, ”Today was too sudden, another day I’ll invite everyone to my house and introduce my new sister.”

Lawrence Winters’ smile was crescent-shaped, ”Oh, Mr. Parker, you’re too polite!”

”Still calling me Mr. Parker?”

Lawrence Winters promptly changed, ”Quentin Parker! Brother Quentin!”

She even cupped her hands in salute.

Her straightforwardness inexplicably felt right to Quentin Parker.

He raised his glass, clinked it with Lawrence Winters’, and said with a smile, ”...sister.”

It’s been many years since those two words left his lips, and saying them now felt like filling a missing piece in his heart.
