Chapter 244: Chapter 244 Team Sword-fighting Competition!

The members of the East Courtyard Sword Team were all easy to get along with.

Even Ye Nanfeng, who had been defeated by Ling Feng, quickly regained his spirits after a brief period of disappointment.

Ling Feng soon learned that in the first team of the East Courtyard Sword Team, except for that abnormal guy Goo Tengfeng, who had opened fifty-six meridians, the others only had around forty meridians.

The strongest among them were Vice-Captain Gong Cheng, with forty-nine meridians, and Xue Xiaolin, who was also at forty-nine meridians like Gong Cheng.

That gambler Lin Mochen and Ye Nanfeng followed, both having forty-eight meridians. Among the official team members, the weakest was Yuu Sixian; perhaps due to squandering his talents on indulgence, he only had forty-eight meridians.

As for the reserve players, they ranged from forty to forty-five meridians.

Although Ling Feng had only six meridians, the power he could unleash should allow him to face any A-class Disciple below fifty meridians head-on.

However, despite Ling Feng’s addition, expecting to instantly rival the other four academies’ first sword teams was still far from enough.

The team sword fighting competition was a team battle. Especially in the Heavenly Position Academy, it wasn’t just you who was a genius; this was a place where geniuses gathered.

Therefore, no matter how overwhelming one’s individual strength was, it couldn’t completely decide the outcome of a team sword fighting competition.

This could be seen from Goo Tengfeng.

This guy’s strength was very strong, number one in the East Courtyard, and he could even rank in the top ten among all A-class Disciples. However, the East Courtyard Sword Team he led had failed to progress past the second round of eliminations for three consecutive years, returning in defeat each time.

Thus, the first thing Ling Feng did upon joining the East Courtyard Sword Team was to familiarize himself with the combat strength and abilities of each teammate.

Ye Nanfeng: In the team, he was the Fast Sword Style Swordsman. His advantage was speed, not only in sword speed but also in movement technique.

Such team members usually found ways during competitions to break through the opponent’s defense, directly entering the Flag Guarding Zone, cutting off the opponent’s flag guards, and toppling the battle flag to secure victory.

Of course, this was an ideal scenario, as the Flag Guarding Zone was generally a team’s ”no-go area.” The strong attackers stationed in front would never allow the opponent’s members to enter this area.

Gong Cheng: As the team’s second-in-command, his main responsibilities were command and coordination in the team while helping speed-focused members like Ye Nanfeng break through the defense line.

Xue Xiaolin: Although she was the only female member of the team, her strength was not weaker than Gong Cheng’s. She was the Flag Guard in the Flag Guarding Zone, responsible for guarding the battle flag, and supported active team members in the Attack and Defense Zone by providing assistance.

It was worth mentioning that Xue Xiaolin was a Wood Element Martial Artist, and her Wood Attribute True Qi was also Spiritual True Qi, which had some regenerative effects on physical strength and True Qi. In the Sword Fighting Arena, ingesting elixirs to replenish True Qi was not allowed, but supplementing with a teammate’s True Qi was perfectly reasonable.

As for Lin Mochen and Yuu Sixian, they were active members in the Attack and Defense Zone, capable of both offense and defense, usually acting under Vice-Captain Gong Cheng’s command.

Of course, the most important member was naturally the soul of the Sword Team, the most heavyweight figure, Goo Tengfeng.

He could be described as the frontrunner of the team. By organizing wave after wave of charges, recklessly crashing into the opponent’s Attack and Defense Zone, he exerted powerful defensive pressure on the opponents, paving the way for his team’s Fast Swordman to break into the opponent’s Flag Guarding Zone. Finding an opportunity to seize the precious chance to cut down the flag was crucial.

(PS: This discusses some of the rules for the team sword fighting competition. The win condition in these matches is to topple the opponent’s battle flag, which has already been illustrated in the previous match between the East and West Courtyards. However, in that match, Ling Feng’s personal ability overwhelmed everyone, whereas in the official Five Academy Sword Team grand match, Ling Feng would encounter many more formidable opponents. Thus, an introduction to some of the sword fighting competition rules is necessary. Since it is all my imagination, please forgive any parts that are unreasonable.)

Generally, a team would have one frontrunner, one Flag Guard, and the other three could be considered as balanced in offense and defense, but the Fast Swordman in Ye Nanfeng’s position was indispensable for any Sword Team.

Some teams even abandoned the Attack and Defense Zone completely, focusing all their efforts on the Fast Swordman to break through and forcefully storm into the opponent’s Flag Guarding Zone.

”With Ling Feng’s abilities, he excelled in speed and explosiveness. So the most suitable position for Ling Feng should be as a Fast Swordman, like Nanfeng!”

After understanding all of the members’ abilities and their roles in sword fighting competitions, Vice-Captain Gong Cheng began to analyze while stroking his chin.

”No worries, there’s still about half a year until the official Five Academy Sword Team grand match. During this time, let Ling Feng familiarize himself with the style of play for any position first.”

Goo Tengfeng gave Ling Feng a hearty pat on the shoulder, ”I hope you won’t find the upcoming training too intense!”

”No, I won’t!” Ling Feng replied with a slight smile, ”Isn’t practice the fastest way to improve strength?”

”Good lad, I knew I didn’t see you wrong!” Goo Tengfeng laughed heartily, ”Alright, next, let Gong Cheng get you into a teamed-up three-on-three match to familiarize you with the Flag Guard position.”

”Understood, entirely at the captain’s command!”

Ling Feng felt a surge of high fighting spirit in his chest, and developed a strong interest in this form of team competition.

...

As Ling Feng busied himself accepting the ”special training” from the Sword Team, the entire East Courtyard’s Yellow Character Disciples were in an uproar.

Ling Feng’s appointment as a member of the East Courtyard Sword Team’s chief became a sensational event among the top levels of the Heavenly Position Academy!

Of course, some old-fashioned individuals, upon hearing the news, simply shook their heads and dismissed it as a farce, thinking that Goo Tengfeng was getting more and more outrageous.

However, it was ultimately a student matter, so the academy didn’t interfere much.

As for the mentors, Zhuu Rong and Pei Miao, who had argued fiercely over Ling Feng but heard the news afterward, they felt a sense of smug satisfaction in their hearts.

Not worthy of being the student I had my eyes on from the start, truly remarkable!

Naturally, that same sense of pride was shared by Academician Ye Guichen, who had always been trying to find a chance to recruit Ling Feng as a student, but later ”Old Madman” Yan Cangtian stormed the dean’s office generating a warning to all deans and academicians not to harbor thoughts of recruiting Ling Feng.

To talk about craftiness, it was Yan Cangtian, that old fox, who was truly cunning, having ”pre-booked” Ling Feng early on, making sure that no other academicians or deans would ever think of recruiting Ling Feng as a good student!

Also receiving the news was Yue Yunlan, who rushed back to the Heavenly Position Academy and had a brief meeting with Ling Feng at the Five Academies Joint Evening.
