Chapter 236: Chapter 236: Ling Feng is My Man!

A life-and-death duel meant a one-on-one confrontation, and before the duel commenced, both parties had already signed a Life and Death Contract.

To fight for life and death, only ceasing at death!

Moreover, no matter which side died, the deceased party’s family and friends could not seek vengeance.

Typically, a life-and-death arena would only open when both sides harbored irreconcilable deep grudges. And now, He Zhongjie was actually seeking a life-and-death duel with Ling Feng.

However, He Zhongjie was already an A-class Disciple, while Ling Feng, who had just joined Heavenly Position Academy a month ago, was a Yellow Character Disciple.

To everyone else, this was not so much a life-and-death duel as it was a duel with an utterly predictable outcome!

What had been a joint evening event of the Five Academies had suddenly escalated to this uncontrollable extent.

On the high platform, Bai Jiantao, who was hosting the event, frowned. He should have intervened, but due to He Zhonglei’s status, he felt it inappropriate to step in, and found himself in a difficult position.

In the crowd, Jiang Xiaofan and Ouyang Jing, among others, saw Ling Feng’s predicament and immediately squeezed through to join him. Although they could scarcely be of any help, at a time like this, they were unequivocally on the same side as Ling Feng.

”Sixth brother, how do you think you compare to that He Zhongjie?” Lee Bufan asked, squinting his eyes.

Beside him, Lee Bujue touched his nose and said indifferently, ”If it were a martial bout, I believe we would be evenly matched; but in a life-and-death struggle, I think I would have a slight advantage.”

”Is that so,” Lee Bufan’s lips curled slightly upward, ”Then, if it really comes down to a life-and-death duel, the one who might die could be He Zhongjie.”

”What?” Lee Bujue’s eyelids twitched, ”Bufan, are you saying that this kid named Ling Feng already has the strength of an A-class Disciple?”

”Perhaps,” Lee Bufan’s eyes held a trace of seriousness, ”I’ve sparred with him once. Although neither of us went all out, I could tell that his strength was no less than mine!”

”If even you say so, this kid seems indeed extraordinary,” a sharp light flashed in Lee Bujue’s eyes, ”Ling Feng... within the Empire, there doesn’t seem to be a noble family by the name of the Ling Family. Strange.”

”Sixth brother, Ling Feng is my target. I don’t want him to die by someone else’s hand before he and I determine a victor,” Lee Bufan stated lightly.

”I understand! I’ll step in if needed.”

Lee Bujue nodded with a smile. The Imperial Court Martial was notoriously domineering. Even if Ling Feng won the life-and-death duel, he would probably have to face their wrath. Hence, this duel must not go forward!

...

”So what if it’s a life-and-death duel?” Ling Feng stood with his hands behind his back, his eyes reflecting a hint of disdain.

In this day and age, who didn’t have a powerful supporter?

What was so great about the Imperial Court Martial? Compared to the National Guardian Divine Sect Cangqiong Sect, how did it measure up?

”No, absolutely not!”

Qin Wanwan, unaware of the connection between Ling Feng and the Cangqiong Sect, stepped in front of Ling Feng and turned to look at him, ”Stinky Ling Feng, you absolutely must not agree to him! This is my second condition!”

Ling Feng was taken aback and suddenly found, perhaps this woman wasn’t so detestable after all.

At least at this moment, she truly seemed concerned about him.

”What’s the matter, Ling Feng? Can only hide behind a woman?”

He Zhongjie sneered, glancing at Qin Wanwan, ”Miss Qin, move aside! I don’t like hitting women, don’t force my hand!”

”Hmph, I just won’t let you!”

Qin Wanwan inwardly regretted her decision; if only she hadn’t let Ling Feng take a stand for her.

”Qin Wanwan, step aside,” Ling Feng said with disdain, shaking his head and gazing at He Zhongjie, ”He Zhongjie, do you think you have me all figured out? To the life-and-death arena, if you’re not afraid of dying, what’s there for me to fear!”

”But...” Qin Wanwan looked at Ling Feng, wanting to say more.

”No buts!”

Ling Feng pulled Qin Wanwan behind him, meeting He Zhongjie’s gaze, filled with chilling killing intent, with an equally sharp look, showing not the slightest hint of fear.

Killing him would be perfect for nurturing my Slaughter Sword Intent!

The surrounding West Courtyard students started to clamor, thinking this newbie who had just entered Heavenly Position Academy really considered himself something special?

Wasn’t it just defeating a few Xuan Character Disciples?

He must not know, the reason A-class Disciples are called such, just how terrifying their strength truly is!

”Brother Jie, wipe out this ignorant brat!”

”That’s right, Young Master He, we support you!”

”Place your bets, place your bets, Young Master He against that wild kid from the East Courtyard!”

”Damn it, do you even have a brain? Is there even a need to bet on this?”

At that moment, Bai Jiantao on the stage clenched his fist, finally leaping down, patting He Zhongjie on the shoulder, and said in a deep voice, ”Young Master He, it’s enough to teach this kid a lesson, isn’t it excessive to take it to the Life and Death Arena?”

”Hmph, Brother Bai, you’ve seen for yourself how arrogant this brat is. If he doesn’t die today, I won’t be able to quell my anger!” He Zhongjie’s eyes were frosty as he locked on to Ling Feng, pulling out a Life and Death Contract, raising it high, and coldly said, ”Ling Feng, do you dare to sign the Life and Death Contract?”

Everyone inhaled sharply, realizing that today’s incident couldn’t end amicably; someone would have to die.

However, before He Zhongjie could throw the Life and Death Contract, a massive and powerful hand firmly grasped his wrist.

The next moment, a booming voice rang in He Zhongjie’s ears, ”He Zhongjie, who gave you permission to touch a member of my East Courtyard Sword Team?”

He Zhongjie’s eyebrows shot up, about to explode in anger, but turning his head, he found himself looking up at a hulking giant, quite a head taller than himself, standing behind him, his hand gripping his wrist with an iron-like strength, rendering him immovable.

A cold sweat immediately broke out on his back as he swallowed hard, ”Captain Goo... Captain Goo...”

This towering figure, like a Great Ape, was none other than the notorious ”Number One of the East Courtyard,” Goo Tengfeng!

And, naturally, right beside Goo Tengfeng, was his inseparable colleague and deputy captain of the East Courtyard Sword Team, Gong Cheng.

”Ling Feng is my man; try laying a finger on him.”

Goo Tengfeng didn’t give He Zhongjie any face, casually flinging him as though he were tossing out the trash.

He Zhongjie’s face instantly turned shades of blue and white. As an A-class Disciple, he had completely lost face in front of all the Yellow Character Disciples present.

And the man he had offended was none other than Goo Tengfeng, the number one of the East Courtyard!

Even Xuanyuanao, the captain of the West Courtyard Sword Team, admitted that he was no match for Goo Tengfeng in single combat.

As for He Zhongjie, with his strength, he couldn’t even make it into the first team of the West Courtyard Sword Team!

This demonstrated just how vast the gap in strength between him and Goo Tengfeng was.

Therefore, in front of Goo Tengfeng, no matter how dissatisfied He Zhongjie was, he dared not utter a word of defiance.

”No... I dare not!”

He Zhongjie rotated his wrist; the grip from Goo Tengfeng had nearly snapped it off.

”Hmph, I thought as much; you wouldn’t dare!”

Without so much as a second glance at He Zhongjie, Goo Tengfeng’s gaze passed over the crowd, locking onto Ling Feng as he issued another invitation, ”Ling Feng, join my Sword Team! You are just the person I need!”
