Chaos Heavenly Emperor Technique

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: The Pill is Formed!

”How about it, senior, what do you think?”

Ling Feng raised an eyebrow with a smile, fully aware that his strength was far inferior to Yan Cangtian’s, but when it came to alchemy, he was quite confident.

Moreover, Yan Cangtian was impressive only in theory, but the art of alchemy had never been ruled by theory alone.

”Let’s compete, then. Do you think I would be afraid of you?” Yan Cangtian’s interest was piqued, and he chuckled, ”There you go, that’s the other ninety-nine kinds of medicinal herbs. If you need them, you can select from there the quantity needed to refine an elixir.”

”No need.”

Ling Feng shook his head, ”The ingredients to refine the Hundred Herbs Elixir should be available in the medicine garden and those shelves outside. I’d rather pick a fresh set by myself; it wouldn’t be fair to take advantage of you, right?”

”You’ve got a point, kid!” Yan Cangtian laughed heartily, ”Alright, I’ll wait for you to gather all the ingredients, then we’ll start alchemy together! I won’t take advantage either!”

Ling Feng curled his lip, in truth, he dared not use the ingredients selected by Yan Cangtian. The man might have impressive theoretical knowledge, but his ability to identify medicinal herbs was atrocious. However, this wasn’t something he could outright say.

”Then I’m much obliged, senior.”

Ling Feng smiled faintly, silently gathering the Heavenly Dao Divine Pattern within him. With Unlimited Vision activated, plus his exceptional insight, he quickly memorized the locations of all one hundred types of herbs for the Hundred Herbs Elixir.

”Senior, then I shall commence the gathering of ingredients.” Ling Feng gave Yan Cangtian a formal bow and, picking up an empty tray, headed towards the door.

...

Thirty minutes later.

Yan Cangtian watched Ling Feng with a hint of surprise, his eyes filled with shock as he muttered, ”How does this kid move around my place as if it’s his own home? He seems to know the place better than I do!”

Muttering to himself, he then saw Ling Feng enter the Alchemy Hall with a tray brimming with herbs, smiling as he said, ”All set, I’ve finished selecting the herbs.”

”That fast?” Yan Cangtian was taken aback, but maintained a composed front, ”Hmph, it took you thirty minutes? Quite slapdash!”

In fact, it had taken him over a month just to prepare the ingredients for the Hundred Herbs Elixir...

”Shall we begin, then?” Ling Feng asked placidly.

”Yes, your Pill Furnace is over there,” Yan Cangtian pointed towards a very ordinary-looking Pill Furnace tucked away in a corner, speaking flatly, ”Now, don’t say I took advantage by giving you a lower-grade furnace. With your True Qi Cultivation, you would be unable to control the Elixir Fire of my high-level Elixir Furnace.”

This wasn’t just idle talk from Yan Cangtian; despite Ling Feng’s level, he still couldn’t perfectly control the Elixir Fire to evenly heat the high-level Alchemy Furnace.

”It’ll suffice, this Pill Furnace will do.” Ling Feng strode over to the half-person-height ordinary furnace, set all the ingredients on a stone platform, and asked with a calm tone, ”Senior, shall I begin refining the Hundred Herbs Elixir?”

”Go on, lad, you’re destined to lose. I am the empire’s premier alchemist, the President and Vice-President of the Alchemy Union are mere followers to me!”

Yan Cangtian’s hand swept through the air, causing the trays filled with various herbs, placed a hundred steps away, to soar through the air.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

One by one, the trays floated before Yan Cangtian. His movements were lightning-fast; in an instant, he processed the various herbs and swiftly cast them into the furnace.

With a glimmer of red shine in his hands and the Primordial Qi within his body stimulating movement, his technique in handling herbs was indeed far better than Yuan Qianshen, the Fourth-rank Pill Master Ling Feng had encountered at the Cangqiong Sect.

”Such nimble hands, and the attention to detail in handling the herbs, it’s practically the level of an Alchemy Grandmaster!”

A flicker of surprise crossed Ling Feng’s eyes; he had never expected such a seemingly mad old man to possess such a high level of alchemy skill.

If it weren’t for his poor ability in identifying herbs, he might well have been an Alchemist of the Sixth level or above...

Ling Feng took a deep breath, composed himself, and began processing the various ingredients needed to refine the Hundred Herbs Elixir.

The Hundred Herbs Elixir wasn’t particularly high-level, at most a Fifth-rank, known for its effects in nourishing the meridians, enhancing the flexibility of veins, and considered an auxiliary elixir for Body Refinement.

However, the Elixir Recipe for the Hundred Herbs Elixir had long been lost, with more than a dozen key ingredients missing and yet to be complemented by anyone to this day.

Yan Cangtian’s completed Elixir Recipe had been thoroughly contemplated by Ling Feng, indeed the optimal formula, to the point that even he couldn’t alter a single herb within it.

From this, it was evident that Yan Cangtian’s theoretical level was truly impressive, and Ling Feng couldn’t help but feel somewhat expectant—whether he could successfully refine the long-lost ”Hundred Herbs Elixir”.

”Hmm?”

While processing the herbs, Yan Cangtian glanced at Ling Feng from the corner of his eye and was surprised to find that Ling Feng’s technique was not in the least bit slower than his own; in fact, he seemed to be overtaking him.

”Good lad, concealing such skill!” Yan Cangtian dared not be distracted any longer and devoted himself completely to the alchemy.

Before long, all the herbs had fully melted into the Pill Furnace, and the next step was Fire Control.

Ling Feng ignited the Elixir Fire, using Earth Fire True Qi to easily regulate the temperature to any precise standard.

Yan Cangtian’s cultivation had long surpassed the Origin Transformation Realm; all his True Qi had been transformed into Primordial Qi, which was thicker and purer than Ling Feng’s True Qi.

His Primordial Qi also bore a Fire Attribute, and it was apparent that he had performed a Spiritual Injection, rendering it a very rare type of Fire-element True Qi, and his temperature control was in no way inferior to Ling Feng’s.

Fifteen minutes!

Thirty minutes!

...

As time ticked away second by second, after a full half-hour, plumes of white mist emanated from both their Pill Furnaces, rising up into the air.

The difference was that on Ling Feng’s side, there was a faint fragrance mixed within the mist.

”It’s time to open the furnace!”

Ling Feng took a deep breath, gently tapped on the edge of the Pill Furnace, and the lid flew up. He scooped up the pre-prepared Jade Box and securely collected the Hundred Herbs Elixir inside it.

One breath!

Two breaths!

Three breaths!

After just three breaths, Ling Feng opened the Jade Box to see a flawless, emerald-green Elixir lying inside—perfectly round and lustrous, beyond reproach.

This was undoubtedly a Top-grade Hundred Herbs Elixir, completely successful!

Over at Yan Cangtian’s side, indeed, several Elixirs lay in his Pill Furnace, and they were as lucent as pearls without the slightest sign of pigment sedimentation.

However, the Elixirs he refined had no scent whatsoever and, due to the miscalculation in choosing herbs, the potency of the medicine counteracted itself. The Elixirs were irregularly shaped with uneven surfaces.

The better and worse were instantly discernible!

Despite his madness, Yan Cangtian knew that eight out of ten, his furnace of Elixirs was Waste Elixirs!

”Senior, I’ve succeeded!” announced Ling Feng, presenting his refined Hundred Herbs Elixir to Yan Cangtian with a measured tone.

”Hmph, stop boasting!” snorted Yan Cangtian as he took the Jade Box, but the moment he looked closely, his hands shook uncontrollably, ”This... This is the Hundred Herbs Elixir! The genuine Hundred Herbs Elixir!”

Yan Cangtian hastily picked up the Elixir from the box, popped it into his mouth, chewed a few times, and then gulped it down furiously. Tears filled his eyes, and he knelt down heavily, raising his hands high and shouting madly, ”Hahaha... It’s done, the Hundred Herbs Elixir, it’s really been refined!”

Completing the Medicine King’s Scripture had taken him a full fifteen years, but in the five years following, nearly every Elixir he had tried to make had ended in failure. Now, although it was Ling Feng who had successfully refined the Hundred Herbs Elixir, it also meant that his research had not been in vain.

At this moment, Yan Cangtian’s emotions were a complex mix, indescribable in words.
