Chaos Heavenly Emperor Technique

Chapter 191: Chapter 191: The Test of Willpower!

At this time, there was still some time before the afternoon assessment.

Ling Feng and Ouyang Jing had left the place where they were originally resting and found another spot under the shade of a tree that seemed relatively quieter, silently waiting for the assessment to begin.

However, before Ling Feng even had the chance to sit down, he saw a figure swiftly approaching them.

Ling Feng shook his head and wryly smiled. Was it really that difficult to have a peaceful rest?

Ouyang Jing, on the other hand, looked at Ling Feng and felt a wave of emotion: perhaps this was what they meant by a ”genius” – wherever he went, he was the center of attention.

This time, the person approaching was a ”familiar face,” Academician Ye Guichen.

”Academician Ye,” Ling Feng quickly got up and bowed to Ye Guichen, with Ouyang Jing hurriedly following suit.

”We’re not in the classroom now, no need to be so formal,” Ye Guichen said, waving his sleeve, and a gentle force lifted the two of them up.

”Ling Feng, did that old gentleman say anything to you just now?” Ye Guichen asked with a somewhat solemn expression.

”Academician Ye, are you referring to that Elder Yan Cangtian we met earlier?”

”Exactly,” Ye Guichen hastened to nod.

”Well,” Ling Feng smiled lightly, ”that elder just asked for my name and didn’t say much else.”

Ye Guichen seemed relieved and nodded, ”That Elder Yan Cangtian is a very special existence within our Heavenly Position Academy. In a way, his status is even higher than that of the dean. However, it’s best for you to avoid getting involved with him. And remember, if ever he seeks you out and offers you to try some new medicine, you must absolutely, absolutely not accept it!”

”Try new medicine?” Ling Feng pursed his lips, probably understanding the implication—that even common herbs could be mistaken, the alchemy skills of Yan Cangtian were likely very...

Limited!

”Mm, I’ll remember that. Thank you for the warning, Academician Ye.”

”Good, as long as you remember,” Ye Guichen said, patting Ling Feng’s shoulder and smiling lightly, ”Do your best this afternoon. I think your results in the willpower assessment shouldn’t be bad either.”

”Thank you, Academician Ye.” Ling Feng bowed again to Ye Guichen.

”Then I’ll be going,” said Ye Guichen, and without lingering further, he turned and left.

About seven and a half minutes later, Ling Feng was resting with his eyes closed, when suddenly, a noisy commotion erupted from the announcement area in the distance.

The countless youths waiting for the afternoon’s test instantly crowded over, whispering something to each other.

”Big brother, let’s go have a look too,” Ouyang Jing urged, standing up in excitement.

”Mm, okay,” driven by curiosity, Ling Feng walked briskly toward the notice board with Ouyang Jing.

On a giant stele with an incredibly smooth surface, several red papers were posted, written over with tiny, dense script, seemingly a series of numbers and names.

”Turns out it’s the results of this morning’s entrance assessment!”

A youth standing at the front shouted excitedly.

”Haha, the efficiency of Heavenly Position Academy is really high! Let me check my ranking... Haha, six hundred and twenty. Looks like I have a chance!”

”Damn, can someone help me check! My name’s Wang Erdan!”

”Help me look too, I’m Niu Dachun!”

”Crap, it looks like the names in the top five have been covered up!”

”...”

The crowd was in disarray, everyone vying to push forward.

Ling Feng’s gaze sharpened, and indeed, he noticed that the first five names on the leaderboard seemed to have been deliberately stroked out with a brush, leaving no trace at all.

Looking from left to right, starting from the sixth place, the names were then displayed; his own rank was only ninth!

”Hey?”

Ling Feng was somewhat surprised. Considering that after noon he had been eagerly contested over by mentors for apprenticeship and had been ”poached” by an Academician from True Dragon Academy, he had thought that he would top the ranking this time. Unexpectedly, there were stronger contenders; even his comprehensive talents only secured ninth place.

However, his physique could evolve, and with his comprehension, especially when the Heavenly Dao Eye was activated, it was entirely immeasurable.

Besides, Ling Feng had intentionally hidden part of his talents, so being ranked ninth wasn’t too shabby.

”Big brother, you’re really amazing, ranking ninth!”

Ouyang Jing looked at Ling Feng with admiration. These young men and women gathered here were the cream of the crop from all over the Empire!

”Work hard this afternoon.” Ling Feng patted Ouyang Jing’s shoulder. He originally thought to say ”you’re not bad either,” but seeing that Ouyang Jing’s rank was beyond five hundred, such words seemed too hypocritical, so he instead offered encouragement with a smile.

”I definitely will!”

Ouyang Jing clenched his fist. While other talents were innate and unchangeable, willpower was something he could persist in with his own perseverance.

If success relied on ninety-nine percent talent and one percent sweat, then he must firmly grasp that one percent!

Ling Feng carefully checked the leaderboard, but from start to finish, he didn’t see Mu Qianxue’s name, feeling somewhat disappointed.

”Could it be that Mu Qianxue has been eliminated?”

Ling Feng let out a sigh. He was somewhat prepared for this outcome, as the requirements of the Heavenly Position Academy were incredibly stringent. In his view, Mu Qianxue’s only specialty was her talent for physique, and it was very possible that she had been eliminated before reaching that test.

Little did he know, Mu Qianxue was one of those top five hidden spots, and her name was at the very top of the list!

...

Half an hour later, Ling Feng and Ouyang Jing arrived at the final assessment location.

The willpower test!

The method of this test was very simple.

Sit!

However, they had to sit under a massive Sword Stele.

Embedded in the center of this stele was an Ancient Bronze Sword.

According to the legend, this was the personal sword of a Great General of the Sky White Empire. The General had reaped countless Dead Souls on the battlefield, thus endowing the sword with an unmatched Evil Aura.

Despite some of the Killing Intent being suppressed by the Stele, a considerable part still seeped out, making even the most profound Martial Artists feel a chilling presence.

The Martial Artists participating in the assessment simply needed to sit within the range of the Sword Stele—the longer they could withstand it, the stronger their willpower was proved to be.

All the Martial Artists partaking in the assessment were divided into over twenty groups, each containing one hundred people.

Ling Feng, along with Ouyang Jing and another ninety-eight people, were assigned to the Sixth Zone.

Once all the assessors were seated cross-legged, the instructor in charge of the willpower test nodded, and the staff gently activated the Array within the Sword Stele, allowing a trace of the Evil Aura to leak out.

Moreover, as time went on, this Evil Aura would become increasingly powerful!
