Wizard: I Add Points and Hunt Monsters

It would probably be a long time before he could look Lisi and Kali in the eye again...

Damn that Desire Origin!

Before long, Professor Lin Qiaoya walked in and went straight to Alicia and the others. ”Any new discoveries?”

Alicia was examining the Core Rune piece by piece. She shook her head. ”Not yet... Professor, do you know which part of the runes has the ability to detect Bone-Eating Worms?”

Professor Lin Qiaoya’s expression was a bit unnatural. ”Apologies. I just found the previous inspection report. It turns out the runes for detecting Bone-Eating Worms were removed half a year ago.”

”Half a year ago? Isn’t the City Rune Array not supposed to be easily modified? Why would you remove it?”

”We weren’t the ones who changed it. It was a rune scholar from Klande. At the time, he also brought the latest schematics for the City-State Array...”

”The recommendation in it stated that the threat of a Bone-Eating Mother Worm was only a Level Two disaster, so there was no need to have dedicated detection runes.”

”So after the change, what was it replaced with?” Alicia stopped her inspection and asked, puzzled.

”Detection runes for another type of Abyssal Creature,” Professor Lin Qiaoya said with some hesitation. ”Runes to detect Black Tide Demons.”

Lisi and Alicia exchanged a glance. Lisi asked, ”Do you remember the name and identity of that rune scholar? Also, if we wanted to change it back, would that be possible?”

”We have all that information, but changing it back would be rather difficult.”

”Hm? Why?”

Professor Lin Qiaoya explained, ”To modify the City-State Array, not only do we need approval from Klande, but we also have to completely shut down the Array’s operation...”

”So, it *can* be modified?”

”It can, but...”

”As long as it can be modified,”

Lisi cut him off. ”These Bone-Eating Worms have already caused a widespread infestation. If we don’t do something, the entire Caster City State will descend into panic. You don’t want to see that happen, do you?”

”Is it already that critical?”

”That’s right!”

Professor Lin Qiaoya said thoughtfully, ”I will report this to the Council and the Noble Committee, and I’ll also contact Klande to get a solution as soon as possible.”

”That would be best. Also,”

Lisi swept her gaze over the scholars present. ”I’ll also ask all of you to do your best to investigate the Array’s issues. You must find every single problem, or else...”

”You can rest assured. I promise to fix the problems as quickly as possible without affecting the City-State Array’s operation,” Lin Qiaoya said solemnly, his previous impatience gone.

”Good. Alicia, I’m counting on you, too.”

”No problem. I’ll give it my all.”

After speaking, Lisi beckoned to Wei’en and the others, signaling them to step outside.

”Professor Lin Qiaoya just explained that this City-State Array doesn’t have the ability to detect Bone-Eating Worms. Caster City State is in big trouble.”

Only then did Wei’en realize it wasn’t that the part of the runes he had inspected couldn’t detect Bone-Eating Worms—it was that the entire City-State Array lacked this capability.

’Half a year ago?’

’Did those people set all this up half a year ago?’

Wei’en thought of Matteo from the Abyssal Sect, whom he had run into in the slums yesterday; Mitra, the Favored One of Desire from Nocturnal City; and the prompt from his panel just now...

He was certain of one thing: whoever had orchestrated all of this was by no means a simple figure!

’But what is their goal?’

’They can’t just be trying to turn the entire Caster City State into a living hell, can they?’

’If so, I really need to start thinking about how to escape with my life.’

Kali’s face was etched with worry. ”Sister Lisi, what do we do now? Without the power of the City-State Array, will it be difficult to find the people infested by the Bone-Eating Worms?”

”Let’s wait for the inspection here to finish first, or...” Lisi looked at Wei’en. ”You take Tina back to the Secret Investigation Department and update Yegor on our findings.”

”As soon as you get a response from the higher-ups, come back and inform us immediately.”

At this point, Lisi took out a piece of parchment with the investigation notes and handed it to him.

”This is the list of suspects provided by Lin Qiaoya. Take it to Yegor as well and have him arrange for someone to investigate them immediately.”

Wei’en took the parchment, hesitated, then risked a warning: ”Captain, you should leave the inspection of the Array to the scholars. You and Kali should stand guard outside to prevent any incidents.”

”Neither of us knows anything about those runes,” Lisi said, waving her hand dismissively. ”Enough talk. Hurry back.”

Resigned, Wei’en had no choice but to take Tina and head out.

With an Extraordinary like that watching over the Array, he couldn’t say any more. ’I just hope Lisi and the others really don’t find anything...’

Before long, they followed a guard out of the underground cavern where the Core Array was located.

Watching the two of them leave, Lisi asked, ”Kali, don’t you think Wei’en is acting a little strange?”

”Not really. It just seemed like he barely looked at me, or you, Captain?”

”Right? He used to sneak a glance my way every now and then.” Lisi pointed at Kali’s bust and added, ”And at yours, too.”

”Ah?” A blush crept onto Kali’s cheeks, and she stammered, ”Captain, you... you must be mistaken. I... I didn’t notice...”

”Marco used to be like that, too. After I fought him in the ring a few times, he didn’t dare anymore.”

Lisi said thoughtfully, ”Looks like after we’re done with this case, I’ll have to find some time to have a few matches with Wei’en.”

...

Kali hadn’t received any education on such matters at her Church School, so it was difficult for her to treat the subject as casually as Lisi did, let alone talk about it openly.

’Matches... well, good luck, Wei’en.’
