Immortal of the Nine Realms

Someone from the Qing Family frowned and shouted, ”Where did this Daoist come from? This is not a place for you. Leave immediately!”

Old Master Qing waved his hand to stop further reprimand. He turned his gaze toward Fang Chen and asked with a furrowed brow, ”Little Daoist, you just asked if you were late. What do you mean by that?”

”Qing Sui sent me here,” Fang Chen said calmly. ”He wanted to inform his fiancee not to wait for him anymore, for he has died on the battlefield.”

The members of the Qing Family exchanged bewildered glances, gradually showing signs of shock.

Old Master Qing staggered slightly, his face paling.

The head of the Zhang Family muttered to himself in disbelief. ”Qing Sui is dead?”

The middle-aged man standing beside Old Master Qing was instantly furious. ”You! How dare you utter such nonsense! My son could never die so easily!”

If not for the people around him holding him back, he would have rushed over to strike this Daoist who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Fang Chen’s gaze flickered. He turned around and saw a woman walking in, her face filled with despair. She looked at Fang Chen, her eyes filled with tears.

”You... you said that Brother Sui is dead?”

”He is dead.” Fang Chen nodded. ”You didn’t know he had passed. Why did you end your life so easily?”

The woman looked dazed. She answered, ”My father is set on tearing up the marriage contract. If the contract is torn, I will never be able to marry into the Qing Family and become Brother Sui’s wife. I can only die before the contract is destroyed so that I can keep the title of his wife, even if only in name.”

Everyone watched as Fang Chen spoke to thin air.

This scene caused chills to race down their spines, and they started to look at him with suspicion and unease.

The head of the Zhang Family suddenly realized something and glared at Fang Chen. ”You... who are you speaking to?”

Fang Chen turned to look at him. ”Your daughter. She said she ended her life because you were set on tearing up the marriage contract. This way, she could still remain Qing Sui’s wife, even in death, and be buried in the Qing Family’s ancestral tomb.”

”Can he see ghosts?!”

”That’s impossible! He must be lying. There is no such thing as ghosts or spirits!”

”If there were ghosts, we’d have encountered them long ago, especially with all the people who died in the Hu Empire. Not a single ghost appeared.”

Old Master Qing suddenly snorted coldly. ”Silence!”

His breath swelled up, like that of a dying beast gaining a burst of strength in a last stand.

Everyone immediately shut up, fear flashing in their eyes. It had been many years since anyone had seen Old Master Qing in such a state.

Old Master Qing slowly turned his gaze to Fang Chen. ”You say my grandson asked you to come here to deliver this message. Was it before his death or after?”

”Naturally, it was after his death.”

”Don’t let him fool you, Old Master!”

”What are you trying to do, Daoist? If you’re here to swindle us, you’ve come to the wrong place! Be careful, you might not leave this door alive!”

”Kill him! He dares to spread false rumors!”

The head of the Zhang Family was afraid the people of the Qing Family would act rashly, and he quickly urged, ”Wait, wait!”

He then cautiously looked at Fang Chen, ”Daoist, can you prove you are able to see my daughter?”

Fang Chen responded, ”She said your wife died giving birth to her. She also told me that you’ve always felt guilty all these years, often going to her grave to talk about your feelings. No one knows about this aside from your daughter, right?”

The moment the head of the Zhang Family heard that, he fell to his knees, crying bitterly. ”My dear daughter, my dear daughter, are you really here? It’s my fault, my fault. I was wrong, I know I was wrong.”

His family members hurried over to support him, their expressions full of sorrow.

The people of the Qing Family exchanged uncertain glances, unsure whether to believe the Daoist in front of them. However, the head of the Zhang Family didn’t seem to be acting....

Old Master Qing wore a bitter smile. ”Daoist, did Sui’er say anything else?”

Fang Chen sighed lightly. ”Forget it, let him speak for himself.”

Then, with a stomp of his foot, a soul appeared beside him. It was the confused-looking Qing Sui.

Upon seeing Fang Chen, Qing Sui immediately cupped his fists and bowed. ”This official greets you, my lord!”

Seeing Qing Sui, the woman gasped, unable to believe her eyes. ”Sui’er!?”

It wasn’t until Qing Sui heard this familiar voice that he realized something was amiss. As he looked around and saw the woman, Old Master Qing, and the head of the Zhang Family crying uncontrollably, a sense of foreboding rose within him.

Why could his childhood sweetheart see him?

The woman, overcome with disbelief, rushed into Qing Sui’s arms. After a moment of stunned silence, Qing Sui angrily exclaimed, ”You, you’re dead!? How could you die?! Who killed you!?”

”She took her own life,” Fang Chen replied softly.

”You...” Qing Sui’s eyes filled with tears. ”Why were you so foolish....”

Qing Sui turned to Fang Chen, his eyes full of gratitude. ”Thank you, my lord. If it weren’t for your intervention, she might never have found her way to the Yellow Springs, and she certainly wouldn’t have made it to Youhuan City....”

Fang Chen said, ”Your family has many questions. You should clear up their doubts. ”

”Me?” Qing Sui was momentarily stunned. He gave a bitter smile. ”My lord, I’m not one of the wandering spirits. They... can’t see me.”

Fang Chen raised his hand, and an Imperial Order appeared before him. After writing the order, he pushed the edict into Qing Sui.

In an instant, Qing Sui was transformed into an ordinary Yin Soldier.

Fang Chen glanced at the seal and noticed that it had only consumed one year of Qing Sui’s lifespan.

After becoming a Yin Soldier, Qing Sui’s aura changed. Slowly, his figure began to materialize, becoming visible to everyone in the Qing and Zhang families.

Such a miraculous scene left many people aghast. Some even fell on their butts and crawled backward in terror.

The Zhang Family head stood up abruptly. ”You... You’re Qing Sui!”

Old Master Qing leaned heavily on his cane, staring at Qing Sui with disbelief.

Qing Sui stood frozen in shock. ”You... You can see me?!”

It wasn’t until his parents rushed forward, crying out in joy, that Qing Sui finally believed that they could see him.

During the next ten minutes, Qing Sui explained to his family that the Underworld truly existed and that people would become souls there after their death.

By now, their eyes, once filled with skepticism as they looked at Fang Chen, were filled with deep reverence.

Qing Sui had told them that Fang Chen was a highly influential figure in the Underworld. He also shared that he had been granted a position there thanks to Fang Chen’s help, leading a relatively comfortable life as a Yin Soldier.

The head of the Zhang Family stared blankly at Qing Sui’s side. He wanted to see his daughter, but there was no sign of her.

He anxiously asked, ”Qing Sui, is my daughter really by your side?”

With a serious expression, Qing Sui answered, ”Uncle, she and I will get married once we return to the Underworld. Do not worry, I will make sure she doesn’t suffer once we are there.”

He then bowed respectfully to the head of the Zhang Family.

He wasn’t stupid. He knew that the Zhang Family had been forced into a corner. The head of the Zhang Family hadn’t actually been opposed to the marriage, but he had been faced with no choice but to do it for the sake of his family.

”Yes, yes, it’s a good thing,” said the head of the Zhang Family. He murmured, ”But... what a pity we won’t be able to commemorate your marriage properly....”

”Just make it an Underworld marriage,” Fang Chen said casually. ”You all can attend the wedding in Youhuan City and witness the bride and groom being wed. That way, you’ll have your wish fulfilled.”

Everyone was stunned into silence.

Old Master Qing was astonished. ”We... we can go to the Underworld?”

”But... won’t that mean we have to die?” someone muttered quietly.

”It’s just a trip to the Underworld, nothing more. You won’t die. If you wish to go, I can bring you all with me. If you don’t want to go, they can just marry on their own,” said Fang Chen calmly.

”I’ll go!” Old Master Qing replied with conviction. ”As a parent, I must be there for my child’s wedding.”

The middle-aged couple beside him bowed deeply, adding, ”We’re willing to go too!”

”I’ll go as well!”

The head of the Zhang Family suddenly exclaimed with excitement, ”Perhaps... perhaps I can see my wife again...”

Fang Chen gave a slight nod and said, ”I have one more matter to attend to. Once it’s completed, I will take you all to Youhuan City.”

He then turned to Qing Sui. ”You should take her back to the city first. Prepare well. This is a marriage, and it should be a grand event. Don’t shortchange yourselves.”

”Thank you, my lord,” Qing Sui said, bowing deeply.

He then led the woman in a respectful bow to both the Qing and Zhang families. Without another word, he turned and vanished from view.

Old Master Qing faltered, unsure of how to feel. ”Qing Sui, my son...?”

”He has gone off to prepare,” Fang Chen answered calmly. ”As for you all, do what you need to do. Don’t overthink things.”

With a light smile, Fang Chen turned and walked away.

As soon as he left, the onlookers finally reacted, and Old Master Qing hurriedly knelt, bowing deeply.

”We respectfully send off the Immortal Master!”

One by one, everyone else followed suit, kneeling with a mixture of awe and reverence.

Such divine methods could only belong to the legendary Immortal Master!
