Immortal of the Nine Realms

In the Nether Guards Division, Qing Sui felt the sack covering his face get removed. He opened his eyes to find himself in what looked like a torture chamber. He was surrounded by a bunch of Yin soldiers. They were all staring at him coldly.

Qing Sui calmly clasped his hands and asked, ”Colleagues, why have you brought me here?”

Unfortunately, the Yin soldiers ignored him completely. One of them stepped forward and patted him down.

The Yin soldier was shocked when he found twenty black copper coins on Qing Sui.

”Yo, Qing Sui, you’ve only just joined the department and already accepted so many bribes?” The Nether soldiers laughed sinisterly. ”These Yin Lifespan Coins, we’ll have to confiscate them.”

Qing Sui said in a deep voice, ”Who is your captain? Have him come and see me.”

”A Day Walker gave me these coins to secure guards for a Yin residence. They are not mine. If you confiscate them, you’ll likely cause trouble.”

Creak...

At that moment, the black door slowly opened, and a figure stepped inside, gazing at Qing Sui with a faint smile.

”Trouble? That Day Walker might be too busy to care. You probably don’t know, but Lin San has asked Lord Wang Hu to deal with him.”

Qing Sui was slightly startled. ”Lord Wang Hu!?”

Wang Hu was the Day Walker of the Nether Guards Division in Youhuan City, and his status was extremely special.

There was only one Day Walker and one Night Walker in Youhuan City, both of whom were not under the jurisdiction of the local department’s god but instead took orders from their respective higher-ups. They both had the authority to travel between the living world and the Yin world.

”So now you’re scared? Your superior is Zhou Buxiao, right? As the captain, hasn’t he properly explained the rules to you? The visitor’s cold laughter echoed in the chamber. ”As a Nether Guard it’s one thing not to help your own people, but meddling in the affairs of Day Walkers is something else. I’ll tell you this—if you manage to keep your position as a Nether Guard after today, consider yourself lucky. But even then, you won’t escape the punishment that awaits you.”

The newcomer’s tone turned even colder. ”I’ve already sent someone to notify Zhou Buxiao. He will personally handle your punishment, so you can understand how to properly conduct yourself within the Nether Guards Division.”

”Aren’t you overstepping your boundaries?” Qing Sui’s face darkened. ”You found these twenty Yin lifespans on me and I told you a Day Walker gave them to me to arrange protection for his Yin residence.”

One of the Yin servants respectfully handed over the coins to the newcomer. The newcomer’s eyes gleamed when he saw the coins. Twenty Yin lifespan coins were a significant amount. The salary for the Nether Guards was barely one coin per year.

”Lord, if I’ve done something wrong, you can punish me. But these Yin Lifespan Coins should be returned to their rightful owner.”

Qing Sui’s face became even more serious. If he couldn’t protect these coins, his arrangement with the Yin Day Walker would likely fall apart.

”That’s not something you can decide.”

At that moment, the door opened again, and a figure rushed in. It was Zhou Buxiao, Qing Sui’s superior and a captain within the Nether Guards Division.

Zhou Buxiao said in a serious tone, ”Chen Hao, what’s going on? Qing Sui just joined. If he has offended anyone, I’ll personally apologize on his behalf. There’s no need to drag him into the torture chamber. We’re all colleagues here, after all.”

Chen Hao sneered. ”One of our own? Ask Qing Sui what he has done.”

”Do you know Lin San? His younger brother was killed today by a person a Yin Walker. Qing Sui is speaking on that person’s behalf. Tell me, does that sound like someone on our side?”

Qing Sui said in a deep voice, ”I’ve only said what I saw and heard.”

Zhou Buxiao was taken aback. ”Lin San’s brother is dead?”

He glanced at Qing Sui, then looked at Chen Hao. ”So, this is what Lin San instructed you to do? Could you give me some face?”

”I can’t.” Chen Hao grinned savagely. ”Lin San even asked Lord Wang Hu to get involved. Do you think I can give you face? If I give you face, who will give Lord Wang Hu face?”

Chen Hao’s grin grew wider. ”Now, are you going to do it yourself, or should I do it for you? Don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you do it yourself, it’s better, at least it’ll calm things down a bit with Lin San.”

Qing Sui said in a deep voice, ”Lord Zhou, as long as it appeases Lord Lin, I don’t mind. But the coins taken from me must be returned. Those are not my Yin Life Coins; they belong to Lord Fang.”

Zhou Buxiao frowned slightly. ”Chen Hao, you took someone else’s Yin Lifespan Coins? That’s breaking the rules.”

Chen Hao said indifferently, ”What do you mean by someone else? If he says they belong to that Yin Walker, must they belong to him? These Yin Lifespan Coins are confiscated. If you want them back, you should go ask Lin San and Lord Wang Hu.”

His subordinates chuckled lightly.

At that moment, the main door suddenly opened again, and everyone looked over to see Lin San walking in with a gloomy expression.

Chen Hao smiled. ”Brother Lin, you’re just in time. Why don’t you handle this kid yourself?”

Lin San glanced at him, expressionless, and said, ”Release him. This matter is already resolved.”

Chen Hao was slightly stunned. ”Release him?”

Zhou Buxiao was surprised.

Qing Sui instinctively asked, ”What did you do to Lord Fang?”

”What did we do? Lord Fang’s background is quite impressive, I underestimated you. It seems like you know something, huh? You’ve learned to flatter him in advance and climb to higher branches,” Lin San said with a cold sneer, then glanced at Zhou Buxiao. ”You better be careful. Be wary of losing your position as the captain to some new blood.”

Everyone looked shocked.

Even Lord Wang Hu couldn’t suppress that Yin Walker?

Judging by Lin San’s demeanor, it seemed like he had encountered a setback.

Zhou Buxiao looked at Qing Sui, looking bemused.

Qing Sui was secretly surprised by this development as well.

Chen Hao furrowed his brow. ”Lin San, are you sure you want to let him go just like that? What does Lord Wang say about this?”

We’ve just captured him and we are already letting him go? Isn’t that a joke?

”Lord Wang...” hesitated Lin San.

Before he could finish, Wang Hu rushed in. Seeing that Qing Sui was still tied up, he immediately shouted, ”Didn’t I say to release him quickly? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?!”

Chen Hao no longer hesitated and gave a strange look as he ordered his men to release Qing Sui.

Qing Sui extended his hand. ”The Yin Lifespan Coins.”

Chen Hao gritted his teeth and returned the Yin Lifespan Coins to him.

Wang Hu said indifferently, ”Lin San, I just spoke with the God of Division. You’re not suitable to continue serving here. You’ll have to give up your position as captain today.”

Lin San’s pupils dilated, and a flash of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.

Chen Hao and Zhou Buxiao were both stunned.

This was a stable job! They had never heard of any captain getting fired before at the Nether Guards Division of Youhuan City.

Could this all be connected to that Yin Walker? What kind of background could be so terrifying that even the Nether Guards Division could be influenced?

Lin San took a deep breath, cupped his hands, and said, ”Lord Wang Hu, I no longer wish to pursue this matter. There’s no need to go so far. I have shown respect over the years...”

”Don’t talk to me about that,” Wang Hu coldly interrupted. ”This isn’t about whether you want to let it go or not. If you don’t leave, everyone in the Nether Guards Division, from the higher-ups to me personally, will be affected. Think carefully about the gravity of the situation.”

Everyone gasped. ”Hiss—”

Lin San asked in confusion, ”Who exactly is that person, and why...”

”Don’t ask. You’re not qualified to know. Leave today, and as for your position...” Wang Hu turned to Qing Sui, looking all smiles. ”Young brother, this position is yours from now on.”

At this moment, no one doubted the Yin Walker’s background. If he could forced Wang Hu to make such a decision, he was definitely not someone they could afford to offend.

Qing Sui was dumbfounded. I have been promoted just like that?
