Immortal of the Nine Realms

Fang Chen was digesting the information that Empress Ci had just revealed.

He mused, After an immortal dies, they would enter the Greater Underworld for a brief stay, awaiting reincarnation? If they cannot reincarnate, they must either transform into Yin Demons or conceal their identity?

The blood paper figure’s eyes flashed with nostalgia. ”The Reincarnation Division was the first to have an issue back then. There was no warning. Every member of the Reincarnation Division died. Even the Reincarnation Realm used for immortals to reincarnate disappeared without a trace.

”Without the Reincarnation Realm, immortals cannot reincarnate into the Immortal Realm. If they are reborn into the mortal realm, their connection to the Immortal Realm might be cut off forever.”

Fang Chen glanced at the blood paper figure. ”Immortals and mortals reincarnate differently?”

”Of course.” The blood paper figure smiled. ”You go back to where you came from. It’s the rule of the Underworld. One can lower themselves to a lesser position, but a person of humble origins cannot rise above them. Immortals can voluntarily reincarnate as mortals, but mortals can’t do the same and reincarnate in the Immortal Realm. However, how many immortals are willing to reincarnate as mortals? There have been very few throughout countless years.”

Fang Chen asked, ”What happens to the soul of an immortal who does not wish to become a Yin Demon in the Underworld?”

”The soul of an immortal cannot cultivate in the Underworld, nor can it use the Immortal Realm’s divine abilities. In the Underworld, they become essentially stuck, unable to move forward. They are even worse off than the most ordinary Yin Demons. They must always hide their identity to avoid being detected as an immortal’s soul. Their souls are considered a great supplement for Yin Demons.”

Empress Ci smiled faintly and interjected, ”I have encountered a few immortal souls before. The experience is quite unforgettable.”

The blood paper figure furrowed his brow slightly, and Empress Ci noticed. She cast him a sidelong glance. ”What’s wrong? Now, the Greater Underworld is a place of chaos. Although, in the past, you didn’t allow Yin Demons to consume immortal souls, no one is overseeing it now. If I don’t eat, other Yin Demons will.

”Take the Taiyin Dragon King, for example. His background is far inferior to mine, yet his cultivation surpasses mine. Why? It’s because he has consumed no less than 100 immortal souls.”

At this point, Empress Ci turned to Fang Chen with a playful smile. ”Future Monarch Yan, once you obtain the inheritance, you can set the rules. You decide if immortal souls can be consumed or not. If that’s what you decide, I’ll stop. I’ll follow your orders.”

Fang Chen smiled faintly but remained silent, a trace of worry rising in his heart.

Senior Brother Pitu is an immortal soul. No wonder he said life as a dead person is difficult. His situation in the Greater Underworld had to be dire.

Fang Chen hadn’t collected any clues yet, so he didn’t know where to start looking. He could only wait until he obtained Monarch Yan’s inheritance and then have blood paper figure and Empress Ci keep an eye out for Pitu’s whereabouts.

”Do you have a name?” Fang Chen asked the blood paper figure.

The blood paper figure nodded. ”Before I became a Yin Soldier, my name was Xing Xian.”

”Xing Xian...” Fang Chen pondered for a moment. ”You’re aware that I am connected to the Three Thousand Dao Sect. The Three Divine Beasts of the Three Thousand Dao Sect are the Azure Lightning Divine Beast, Twilight Solar Divine Beast, and Yin Lunar Divine Beast. Since Monarch Yan’s inheritance requires the recognition of the Yin Lunar God Beast, can I interpret that Monarch Yan’s inheritance is also derived from the Three Thousand Dao Sect?”

”The Three Thousand Dao Sect...” Empress Ci’s eyes flashed with contemplation. ”I feel like I’ve heard that name before, but I can’t quite recall where.”

Xing Xian pondered for a long time before shaking his head. ”The Dao Sect is divided into the Yin, the Yang, and the Chaos. The Twilight Solar God Beast represents the Yang lineage, the Yin Lunar God Beast represents the Yin lineage, and the Azure Lightning God Beast represents the Chaos lineage.

”It is said that these three were once close friends of the Heavenly Cloud Emperor. Because of their frequent interactions, some people mistakenly believed that they all came from the same origin. In reality, I have heard that the Heavenly Cloud Emperor’s sect was unique and independent. However, up until now, no one has seen his path. Apart from the Divine Beasts, perhaps all others who knew it have died.”

”Are you saying that the Three Thousand Dao Sect was the ’Three Qing Supreme Sect’ that once guarded the Nine Realms of the mortal realm?”

Empress Ci suddenly gasped in disbelief. She looked at the blood paper figure and Fang Chen with wide eyes. ”It is said that the Cloud Emperor of the Three Qing Supreme Sect walked the path of a Loose Immortal. On the day he achieved his Dao, even Monarch Yan and the Immortal Emperor personally went to congratulate him?”

Fang Chen looked at Xing Xian. ”The Three Qing Supreme Sect?”

Xing Xian nodded. ”It is likely true. I cannot confirm it, as what I know is mostly based on rumors. If not for the fact that I entered the mortal realm more than 6,000 years ago and happened to go to the right place, I doubt I would have found a single Immortal Seedling recognized by the Yin Lunar Divine Beast up until now.”

Empress Ci’s eyes sparkled, and her attitude clearly improving. ”Unbelievable, I didn’t expect the future Monarch Yan’s origins to be so extraordinary!”

However, after a moment of thought, she looked suspiciously at Xing Xian. She pointed at Ji Liang, who remained motionless like a wooden puppet, and wondered, ”Given that the future Monarch Yan is such a good choice, why did you choose this person?”

Xing Xian’s expression changed slightly. After a moment of contemplation, he sighed. ”He is someone I have watched grow, after all. Although I knew Fang Chen was connected to the Three Thousand Dao Sect in the past, I couldn’t have known he gained the recognition of the Yin Lunar Divine Beast.”

Empress Ci smiled. Just as she was about to speak, her bright face turned serious. In the blink of an eye, she vanished.

Fang Chen and Xing Xian exchanged a glance and immediately lifted the curtain to look outside.

They saw Empress Ci standing in midair, her bright red wedding gown billowing in the wind. Not far in front of her stood a figure, holding a Heavenly Halberd and wearing dragon scale armor. They were standing at least 10 feet tall.

This figure’s skin was pale with blackish veins, resembling scales hidden beneath the skin.

Empress Ci wore a charming smile. ”True Monarch of Pan Mountain, why are you blocking my way? Could it be... You want to marry me?”

True Monarch of Pan Mountain replied coldly, ”Leave this Yin Soldier and the Yin Walkers he brought with him, and you may depart safely. Otherwise, in half an hour, the Taiyin Dragon King will arrive, and you will be reduced to nothing.”

Empress Ci laughed. ”Taiyin Dragon King? True Monarch of Pan Mountain, I’m truly disappointed in you. You are no weaker than him, and your seniority is even greater. Why are you willing to be his lackey?”

Fang Chen glanced at Xing Xian. ”How strong is this True Monarch of Pan Mountain? What is his relationship with the Taiyin Dragon King?”

Xing Xian’s expression was grave. ”I have been away from the Greater Underworld for thousands of years, and there are many people emerging in the Underworld now that I have never heard of. However, I have heard of the True Monarch of Pan Mountain. His seniority might even surpass that of Empress Ci, and at least he has been alive for tens of thousands of years as a Yin Demon.”

Lifespans in the Underworld were vastly different from those in the human world. Even ordinary wandering souls could live for hundreds or even thousands of years if they had enough Yin Lifespan. The more powerful Yin Demons could live for tens of thousands of years.

Despite knowing this, Fang Chen’s heart skipped a beat when he heard this.

Those were tens of thousands of years…. In the mortal realm, that would be enough to bring about immense changes. Even the Immortal Kings only live for about 4,000 years.

True Monarch of Pan Mountain may have been a well-known powerhouse in the Greater Underworld long before the likes of Elder Xun and other experts were even born.

”The Taiyin Dragon King is the soul of a True Dragon. In my past life, I was one of his dragon slaves. What’s wrong with following his orders?” True Monarch of Pan Mountain spoke coldly. ”I recognize that reaching your current level of cultivation was not easy, so I will give you a way out. Do not bring harm upon yourself.”

Although Empress Ci maintained her smile, Xing Xian could sense the danger and became solemn. He transmitted a message to Fang Chen, his voice heavy with warning, ”Our journey will not be easy. Your cultivation in the Underworld is only second to these Greater Yin Demons. I will tell you where to go. If you can escape here safely, reaching that place with your cultivation will not be difficult.

”These bamboo segments, when held in your mouth, will hide your presence completely, making you indistinguishable from the Yin Demons. One segment can last you 10 days. Use them sparingly.”

He silently handed Fang Chen the bamboo segments he had purchased earlier from the fortune teller, giving his final instructions.

”I hope that one day, a new Monarch Yan will rise, so that the Yin Soldier lineage will not be forgotten,” he added.
