Immortal of the Nine Realms

”This newcomer is hot-tempered, but he does have some skills. He must be at the Foundation Building Realm at the very least in the realm of the living.”

”Two Yin Walkers have already died, and that guy surnamed Zhao is no big deal—just a small character who is a lackey of Ma Minlong. But Brother Lin was killed... His older brother is the Captain of the Nether Guards in Youhuan City. He won’t let this go easily.”

”Although the government can’t directly interfere in our matters, dealing with a newcomer who hasn’t established roots yet is not a difficult task for them.”

A few Yin Walkers watched from a distance, exchanging hushed words.

Wen Fan and the woman in black quickly walked up to Fang Chen. Wen Fan scanned the surroundings and then urged him in a whisper, ”This could be troublesome. You should leave quickly. My husband has connections in Youhuan City. If you save him, he can speak up on your behalf and smooth things over.”

Fang Chen smiled and shook his head. ”It’s my first time here. If I leave now without familiarizing myself with this place, it would be a wasted trip. You two go ahead. I’ll find a place to rest.”

In the vast Youhuan City, the strongest aura he could sense was comparable to a Golden Core cultivator, though perhaps slightly weaker. With his current strength, he was confident he could single-handedly raze the entire city. Nothing here seemed to pose a threat to him.

As he finished speaking, a group of Yin energy-filled soldiers rushed toward him. The leader walked with the power of a dragon and tiger, his aura not as strong as Ma Minlong’s, but still thick with surrounding Yin energy.

The leader of the Nether Guards, Lin San, had a gloomy expression. He first glanced at Fang Chen, then stood at the spot where Brother Lin had disappeared. He seemed to be sensing something.

”My lord, this is the Nether Guards of Youhuan City,” the woman in black said, her tone serious as she lowered her voice. ”Youhuan City has the Nether Guards Division, which holds equal authority to the City Lord Manor and is directly governed by Yan Monarch. The guy you just killed… was his sibling.”

Lin San’s expression grew darker, and his eyes sharpened as he continued. ”His name is Lin San, the Fifth Captain of the Nether Guards Division. He is as strong as Ma Minlong.”

Lin San slowly asked, ”Does anyone know how my brother died? His physical body was still in the Mortal Realm, but his soul was separated and died. It’s as though his soul was scattered, with no chance of becoming a wandering soul. Who could be so heartless?”

Although he seemed to be asking, his eyes were fixed on Fang Chen, filled with venomous and chilling hatred that seemed to materialize into something tangible.

A companion of Brother Lin stepped forward and pointed at Fang Chen. ”Captain Lin, this matter is actually quite simple. This person killed your brother. He also killed another guy surnamed Zhao.”

Lin San looked at Fang Chen coldly, his gaze indifferent. ”May I ask your name?”

Fang Chen replied with a smile, ”I am surnamed Fang.”

Seeing that the other party had not given his full name, Lin San’s eyes grew colder. ”So it’s Daoist Fang. May I ask how my younger brother, Lin Zhensheng, offended you to warrant such a fate, his soul scattered to the winds?”

”Do Nether Guards intervene in the matters of Yin Walkers?” Fang Chen smiled. ”I heard that you only handle the wandering souls here. We are not within your jurisdiction.”

Lin San took a deep breath to calm his anger and slowly spoke. ”You are right, Daoist Fang. Youhuan City does not interfere with the grievances among those who have gone through the soul-crossing ritual, and the Nether Guards Division won’t intervene. However, since this matter concerns my younger brother, I must get to the bottom of it.”

At that moment, a figure emerged from the surrounding wandering souls and cupped his fist toward Lin San. ”My lord, I was a witness to this incident. The cause of this matter does not lie with Daoist Fang.”

The figure was wearing the uniform of a Nether Guard, though it appeared simpler and less impressive compared to Lin San’s. He seemed to be an ordinary Nether Guard. Fang Chen recognized him as the soldier who had accompanied him to the Forgotten River to retrieve someone earlier.

Lin San narrowed his eyes and looked at the newcomer. ”You? Who are you? Did you just join the Nether Guards Division? I don’t recognize you.”

The soldier cupped his fist and replied, ”My name is Qing Sui, and I just joined the Nether Guards Division today.”

Lin San asked, ”Who is your superior?”

”Supervisor Zhou Buxiao,” answered Qing Sui.

Lin San smiled and nodded. ”Ah, so it’s Zhou Buxiao. I’ve shared a drink with him a few times. He’s a good guy. However….”

His tone suddenly turned cold. ”It turns out he can’t even manage his subordinates properly. Is he even worthy of being a supervisor? What right do you have to speak to me? Get out of the way.”

Qing Sui’s expression changed slightly. His face wavered between anger and hesitation. After a brief silence, he cupped his fist again. ”My lord, please do not break the law. The Nether Guards Division does not interfere with the affairs of Yin Walkers. This is the rule established by Monarch Yan, the law for all eternity!”

Upon hearing him mention Monarch Yan and the established rules, Lin San and his five subordinates waivered.

”Good, very good. Though you’re new to the Nether Guards Division, you understand the rules quite well. Zhou Buxiao is lucky to have someone like you as his subordinate,” Lin San said with a forced smile, nodding at Qing Sui. He then turned to Fang Chen, cupped his fist, and said, ”Daoist Fang, I hope we meet again when fate allows.”

With that, he turned and led his subordinates away, the others quickly followed behind him.

Although Lin San had left, Qing Sui’s worried expression didn’t diminish. He approached Fang Chen and cupped his fist. ”Daoist, please return to the living world as soon as possible. They likely won’t let this go so easily.”

Fang Chen smiled and asked, ”Are you from the Nether Guards Division here?”

Qing Sui paused for a moment before nodding. ”I was lucky to be noticed by Supervisor Zhou and recommended to the Division.”

Fang Chen asked again, ”Do you have some free time now?”

Qing Sui gave an odd look. ”I do, but….”

”That’s good enough,” said Fang Chen. ”Take me to a place to rest. I need to set up a residence here.”

Qing Sui was confused. However, he didn’t bring up Fang Chen returning to the living world since Fang Chen had clearly changed the topic.

Wen Fan and the woman in black watched the two leave. The woman in black softly said, ”Miss, we may have found the right person this time. He might even be as strong as your husband.”

Wen Fan bowed to the woman in black and said, ”Thank you, Xiao Lan. If it weren’t for you looking for someone in Youhuan City for me, we might have missed the opportunity to make a deal with this person.”

The woman in black smiled. ”No need to act courteous. But you should be more careful when going out in the future. It seems that Ma Minlong’s subordinates have been keeping an eye on us.”

Wen Fan nodded lightly, the worry in her eyes still lingering. A home cannot be without a master, and with her husband still not returning, she remained a coveted target for those wandering souls and Yin Walkers.

”Esteemed sirs, how do you find this Yin residence?”

In a large seven-compound mansion, a middle-aged wandering soul eagerly watched as Fang Chen and Qing Sui examined the property.

”This residence is quite good, but it’s quite expensive, right?” asked Qing Sui, a hint of envy flashing in his eyes.

High-quality Yin residences can stabilize Yin life. Additionally, living here would lower the consumption of Yin vitality, which is why they are also said to extend one’s life.
