When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 150: Chapter 147: The Apocalyptic Big Boss Arrives 24

Gu Lin slowly approached Ji Xiaosong, his trembling hand coming to rest on her flat stomach.

”Song, you’re pregnant! And it’s mine! I’m going to be a father!”

He never thought his own child would come so soon. The laboratories at Yongfeng Base had discovered early in the apocalypse that as a Superpower User’s level increased, conceiving a child would become more and more difficult.

He had already prepared himself for the possibility of never having children in this lifetime, so he had never taken any precautions.

But he never expected that Ji Xiaosong would actually get pregnant.

As a Superpower User, the bloodline connection he could sense made it clear to him that the child in Ji Xiaosong’s belly was his.

Ji Xiaosong looked at Gu Lin’s shocked face, and only then did she remember that she had never intentionally tried to prevent pregnancy.

’If I have a child in this life, so be it. After all, my purpose is to save the world, so it’s probably better to have one sooner rather than later.’

”How did you know I was pregnant?”

’It hasn’t even been that long. How could Gu Lin possibly know?’

”Song, I saw a multicolored ball of light in your belly. Even though it’s just a ball of light, I can feel a bloodline connection to it.”

Gu Lin’s voice trembled slightly as he continued, ”Song, let’s go back quickly. It’s too cold outside.”

”Okay, we have to tell Mom, Dad, and my brother this good news too.”

Thinking about how her pregnancy might delay the mission to rebuild South City, Ji Xiaosong continued:

”The reconstruction work in South City can finally be expedited. The blizzard was nonstop before, so we couldn’t start any engineering work at all. But it’s better now. I’ve figured out the law of energy cycles, so the Superpower Users can get back to reconstruction work as normal. Also, when we rebuild the houses later, we must focus on insulation for both heat and cold. It’s a blizzard now, but who’s to say we won’t run into scorching heat in the future? It’s never wrong to be prepared in advance.”

”Okay, I’ll take care of all that. Song, you just focus on resting and nurturing the baby. Once the weather gets a little better, we’ll go back and register our marriage right away.”

Although the journey from South City to Chenming City wasn’t that far, considering the blizzard, Gu Lin didn’t dare risk taking Ji Xiaosong back.

In any case, he had already decided that Ji Xiaosong was the only one for him in this lifetime, so it didn’t matter if they registered their marriage sooner or later.

After taking Ji Xiaosong back to her room and giving An Ran a few instructions, Gu Lin eagerly rushed to the communications office.

There was a way to contact Yongfeng Base at any time from there.

When Gu Changqing received Gu Lin’s communication request, he thought it was about some new work progress in South City, so the first thing he asked after picking up was...

”Your progress over there in South City has been a bit slow, but it’s understandable given the circumstances. I get it. As long as everyone is safe, that’s what matters.”

”Dad, that’s not what I called about. Song is pregnant! I’m going to be a father!”

As Gu Lin said this, he couldn’t help but emphasize the last sentence, his voice rising in pitch.

On the other end of the line, Gu Changqing froze instantly. The pen in his hand fell to the floor with a CLATTER. It took him several seconds to react, and when he did, his voice shot up an octave, thick with disbelief and wild joy. ”What did you say? Xiaosong is pregnant? Really? My good son, you’re really going to be a father!”

As he spoke, Gu Changqing shot to his feet, knocking his chair over backward with a loud CRASH. He didn’t even notice, pacing back and forth in the room, unable to hide the grin that stretched from ear to ear.

Listening to his father’s excited voice, Gu Lin’s eyes reddened slightly. He nodded firmly, even though his father couldn’t see, his own voice filled with irrepressible excitement. ”It’s true, Dad! I could feel it. That’s my child. I’m just so happy!”

Recalling the moment he had just discovered Ji Xiaosong’s pregnancy, his heart was still racing. The mix of joy and responsibility of becoming a father for the first time intertwined, immersing him completely in a state of immense bliss.

”This is wonderful, just wonderful!”

Gu Changqing repeated this several times before stopping his pacing. He wiped away the joyful tears welling in the corners of his eyes. ”This is a huge happy occasion for our family! I have to tell Xiaosong’s family this news right away. They’ll be overjoyed!”

His voice trembled slightly with excitement, and his mind was already picturing what his little grandchild would look like after they were born. ’That soft little bundle, how adorable would that be.’

Gu Lin replied with a laugh, ”Okay, go ahead and tell them. Once the blizzard here stops, we’ll find a time to head back.”

The thought of returning to Chenming City with a pregnant Ji Xiaosong to reunite with their families filled his heart with anticipation.

”Alright, be careful on the road. Contact me anytime if anything comes up.”

Gu Changqing instructed, his tone full of concern. ”Xiaosong’s pregnant now, she must be well taken care of. If you need anything at all, just say the word. The base will provide its full support.”

He was already starting to plan what to prepare for his unborn grandchild—tiny baby clothes, little shoes, and all sorts of toys. He wished he could just send a whole pile of it to Ji Xiaosong right this second.

After hanging up, Gu Lin’s face was still beaming with a happy smile. He felt like the luckiest man in the world.

Meanwhile, Gu Changqing was already running toward the Ji family’s residence, unable to wait, shouting as he went, ”Great news! Great news!”

His voice echoed down the hallway, causing many people to turn and look, curious about what incredible good news had occurred.

On the other side, however, the Ji family’s first reaction to the news of Ji Xiaosong’s pregnancy wasn’t excitement, but shock.

’Their precious daughter, their precious little sister, has only been out working with Gu Lin for a short time. How is she already pregnant?’

”Base Commander Gu, those two kids haven’t even been dating for very long, have they?”

The corner of Ji Chengguang’s mouth twitched uncontrollably, and an urge to start cursing churned in his chest.

But then he remembered that his daughter was already pregnant, and that procreating in the apocalypse was difficult. He could only summon every ounce of self-restraint he had accumulated in his life to barely suppress the blaze of anger at this critical moment.

Only then did Gu Changqing suddenly realize this as well. He awkwardly rubbed his head, which still had a thick crop of hair, and chuckled. ”Ai, this is definitely our boy’s fault. It’s his fault...”

Song Ya walked over, pulled Ji Chengguang behind her, and said with a smile, ”Since Song and Gu Lin already have a child, they should go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and get their marriage certificate after the blizzard stops.”

”Of course, they must get their marriage certificate. I also have to start preparing for their wedding ahead of time,” Gu Changqing repeatedly assured them. He sat in the Ji family’s home for a while longer before finally leaving, his head covered in sweat.

The moment he stepped out of the Ji family’s front door, Gu Changqing jumped for joy.

’That only son of mine is really useful after all!’
