When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 130: Chapter 129: The Apocalyptic Big Shot Arrives 6

The announcement of Ji Xiaosong’s appointment as vice-commander of Yongfeng Base spread as if it had wings, quickly reaching every corner of the base.

At the same time, her official information was conspicuously posted on the base’s public bulletin boards.

Normally, such an appointment would require a public notice period. Only after this period ended with no objections could the appointment be made official.

This time, however, the process was different. The announcement and the appointment were made almost simultaneously, skipping the waiting period entirely. This unusual procedure sparked a great deal of discussion throughout the base.

But it was only talk. After all, none of them could boast the abilities listed on her official notice.

After she finished helping the several hundred special forces soldiers with their Body Refining, Ji Xiaosong was finally able to return to A7 Villa and catch her breath.

A great deal of time had passed. Ji Xiaosong glanced at her phone; it was still three hours until the acid rain from her past life was due to arrive.

She set an alarm and took a short nap.

The shrill ring of the alarm suddenly blared, jolting Ji Xiaosong from her sleep. At almost the exact same moment, a dense PATTERING sound came from outside the window. The acid rain had arrived right on schedule.

Heavy, bean-sized raindrops, a bizarre purplish-black color, slammed viciously onto the base’s protective canopy, creating a dull, grating impact.

Looking through the window, the acid rain looked like thick ink being splashed wantonly across the sky. A pungent, acidic mist rose wherever it fell, making it difficult to breathe.

Thanks to the nation’s early warning and thorough preparations, everything inside the base was orderly. There were almost no people moving about outside.

Carried by the gale-force winds, the acid mist battered the base’s perimeter walls and buildings, the corrosive liquid leaving mottled streaks down their surfaces.

Ji Xiaosong checked on her parents in their bedroom and then on Ji Youshu in his. She found them all in bed, running a high fever.

To make it easier to care for them all, Ji Xiaosong moved Ji Youshu to the sofa in her parents’ bedroom.

The acid rain lasted for a day and a night, the duration perfectly matching how long everyone’s fever lasted.

When the acid rain stopped, Ji Chengguang, Song Ya, and Ji Youshu began to wake up one by one.

”Dad, Mom, Brother... for now, close your eyes. Clear your minds of all distracting thoughts and focus your full attention on your lower abdomen—the area between your navel and your pubic bone.”

Ji Xiaosong paused for a moment, then pointed to her own stomach as she continued to explain, ”Try to feel what’s in there. See if you have a superpower core?”

”Once you quiet your minds and search carefully, you might feel a faint, barely-there warmth, or maybe a strange fluctuation of energy, like ripples spreading across a calm lake. Don’t ignore any subtle sensation. That could very well be the superpower core sending you a signal.”

As Ji Chengguang closed his eyes, a searing heat suddenly flared up in his abdomen.

He subconsciously tensed his shoulders, sweat beading on his palms. The ball of fire traveled along his veins to his fingertips. With a HISS, a dark red flame danced on his fingertip.

”Watch the curtains!”

Song Ya cried out in alarm, only to find her own throat felt unusually moist.

She opened her palm. Clear droplets of water were bubbling up from the lines on her palm, refracting a rainbow-colored halo in the sunlight.

The droplets suddenly coalesced into an arrow of water that shot straight toward the flame on her husband’s fingertip.

”My heavens...”

Ji Chengguang frantically shook his hand. The instant the flame landed on the wooden floor, Ji Youshu stomped his foot.

An earthy-yellow barrier strangely rose from the floorboards, completely enveloping the spark.

The young man stared at the sand flowing across his palm and suddenly laughed. ”I can make the whole base sprout with farmland!”

The stream of water on Song Ya’s fingertip suddenly formed into a jet. With a light flick, she sent it landing precisely on the tip of her husband’s hair.

”Honey, your hair’s on fire.”

Ji Chengguang frantically slapped at his head, but the flame curled back into his palm, as docile as a small animal.

The three of them stared at each other, then suddenly burst out laughing. The auras of their superpowers mingled in the bedroom, weaving a rainbow of light.

”Congratulations, Dad, Mom, and you too, Brother. Your superpowers are the same as in my past life, only this time, you’ve awakened at the Third Rank, not the First.”

At Ji Xiaosong’s words, the three of them snapped out of their joyful shock.

”Sister, what’s the difference between the ranks?”

Ji Xiaosong condensed a cluster of Ice Crystals at her fingertip, tapping the air lightly as the three of them watched in astonishment. ”Superpowers are divided into five systems based on the Five Elements: Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Each system is divided into ten ranks. The First Rank awakens elemental affinity. The Second Order expands your range of control. The Third Rank lets you change the element’s form—like how Dad can now compress a flame into a fireball.”

The Ice Crystal in her palm morphed into a rotating star chart. ”Fourth Rank is elemental materialization. A Water Element user, for example, can create ice blades. Fifth Rank is forming an elemental domain. A Fire Element user could turn a hundred-meter radius into a pool of lava. Sixth Rank is elemental mimicry. The Earth Element can grant life to sand and soil. Seventh Rank is fusing with the laws of the world. The Gold Element can manipulate electromagnetism. Eighth Rank is tearing space. A Wood Element user can instantly grow a rainforest. At the Ninth Rank, the element becomes the user’s very being. As long as a single spark of fire exists in the world, Dad, you’ll never die. And Tenth Rank...”

She stopped abruptly, the Ice Crystal shattering into starlight.

”What about Tenth Rank?”

The sand between Ji Youshu’s fingers condensed into a question mark.

”That is the legendary domain of the Creator God.”

A pale blue halo glowed in Ji Xiaosong’s pupils. ”A Tenth-rank Water Element user can create oceans from nothing. A Fire Element user can become a sun. An Earth Element user can raise new continents. However, in my past life, the strongest only ever reached the Eighth Rank. So this time, we’re going to rewrite the ending.”

The droplet of water dancing in Song Ya’s palm suddenly refracted a rainbow of light. ”So how is being Third Rank different from our past life?”

”In my past life, you awakened at the First Rank with just a flicker of flame, a drop of water, and a bit of sand. This time, you’ve jumped directly to the form-reshaping stage.”

Ji Xiaosong touched her fingertip to the flame in her father’s palm. The flame instantly transformed into a Vermilion Bird with flapping wings. ”This flame, for instance, already contains a nascent spirit.”

Ji Youshu recalled the Tenth-rank Wood Ability that Ji Xiaosong had demonstrated before, and his eyes widened.

”Sister, I remember you demonstrated it in front of Gu Lin before. You’re a Tenth-rank Superpower User. You said then that the Tenth-rank Wood Ability is the Birth of All Things. The Birth of All Things... isn’t that what a Creator God does?”

Ji Xiaosong smiled. ”Yes, it is.”

The Vermilion Bird burning in Ji Chengguang’s palm suddenly went out, the flame dissolving into fine golden motes of light that drifted down into his daughter’s hair.

He reached out to touch the specks of light, but his fingertips trembled and hovered in mid-air. ”Song... this power of creation... what is the price?”

The rainbow light in Song Ya’s palm suddenly shattered, and the water trickled through her fingers onto the carpet.

She suddenly pulled her daughter into a hug, her water element uncontrollably steaming into a mist around them.

”Song, everything in this world has to be balanced. You’ve been given this incredible opportunity... but what did you have to lose?”

Ji Xiaosong gently hugged Song Ya back and said reassuringly, ”Mom, Dad, don’t worry. Think about people like Zhou Ziheng. If he became one of the strong ones in this apocalypse, wouldn’t the world fall into chaos? Maybe fate itself couldn’t stand by and watch, so it let me be reborn to give the world a chance at peace and stability. The stronger I am, the more people I can save and the more I can protect. I’m confident that as long as our family works together, we can help more people survive this apocalypse and get our lives back on track.”

As the family was talking, Gu Lin knocked on the door.
