When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 132: Chapter 131: The Apocalyptic Big Shot Arrives 8

At these words, the entire room fell utterly silent.

Hearing the cold snort, Ji Xiaosong looked up, intrigued, toward the one who had made the sound: Wang Meng.

He wore a crisp military uniform, a gold star gleaming on his epaulet, and he exuded the powerful aura of a man long accustomed to authority.

She didn’t rush to respond. Instead, she took the opportunity to let her gaze sweep slowly across the room, only then realizing with a start that every single person present was a Superpower User.

Gu Lin stood to one side, his presence calm and steady. His superpower was the most well-rounded, and his level was the highest of anyone there, aside from her own.

The others all possessed superpowers as well, but a closer look revealed they were basically between the First Rank and Second Order.

This discovery gave Ji Xiaosong pause. She now realized that in addition to conventional testing, a Superpower User’s Superpower Level was also visibly represented on their superpower core.

With every rank gained, another white line would appear on the superpower core.

Thinking back to her own superpower core—fully green and transparent—she knew it meant she had reached Full Level.

At this thought, the corners of Ji Xiaosong’s lips curved upward, and a flash of calm confidence lit her eyes.

”Base Commander Gu, this director of the Contribution Assessment and Resource Allocation Management Center—will they be my direct subordinate, reporting to me and under my personal authority?”

Gu Changqing nodded. ”Miss Ji, that’s a matter of course. In the future, your space will serve as our largest warehouse and the central hub for the base’s material flow and distribution. The work of the director of the Contribution Assessment and Resource Allocation Management Center is closely tied to material allocation. Only by placing them under your direct authority can we ensure a seamless and efficient connection between distribution and storage. Moreover, when the director assesses personnel contributions, many of the resource rewards will need to be drawn from your space. Having them report directly to you will significantly improve decision-making and execution efficiency, and it will also give you the most rational control over the base’s resources.”

He had made the rationale very clear, knowing that with Wang Meng’s personality, Ji Xiaosong would not necessarily agree to him taking the position.

Just as he expected, Ji Xiaosong turned to Wang Meng and said, ”My mother, Ms. Song Ya, managed Chaohui Group, which had over a million employees worldwide. For years, she skillfully navigated complex business environments and is adept at resource integration and personnel management. The Contribution Assessment and Resource Allocation Management Center needs a leader who can command a vast system and precisely balance the interests of all parties. Besides, Ms. Song lives with me. It will be easier to access resources when they’re needed, won’t it?”

Ji Xiaosong’s blatant favoritism infuriated Wang Meng.

In truth, she didn’t really care who held this position—as long as it wasn’t Wang Meng.

It wasn’t that he was incompetent. Rather, he had been in a position of power for too long, accustomed to his word being law, and would find it difficult to accept her, someone who had been parachuted into a position of authority.

The thought of the endless disputes that would arise from working together gave Ji Xiaosong a headache. It was better to cut him out from the very beginning.

Gu Changqing understood her intention. Ji Xiaosong wanted to reserve this position for her own family, a development he was happy to see.

”Then it’s decided. Ms. Song Ya will be the director of the Contribution Assessment and Resource Allocation Management Center. Next, Miss Ji, please continue explaining the other system arrangements.”

Hearing Gu Changqing’s final verdict, Wang Meng’s face alternated between pale and livid. He clenched his jaw, his hands unconsciously balling into fists so tight his knuckles went white.

He was filled with unwilling resentment, but had nowhere to vent it.

In terms of power, his Superpower Level and combat experience were already a cut below those of Gu Changqing’s son, Gu Lin.

In terms of connections, Gu Changqing, as the Base Commander, had deep roots in the base, and every faction gave him due respect.

His own network of contacts was simply not worth mentioning in the same breath as Gu Changqing’s.

At this realization, Wang Meng took a deep breath, forcibly suppressed his emotions, and slowly unclenched his fists. He sat back down and fell silent, saying no more.

Ji Xiaosong continued with the rest of her arrangements. ”Next, I’ll explain the Three-level Space Authority System and the Dynamic Resource Management System.”

”Let’s start with the Three-level Space Authority System. The surface living area is the Open Tier. It has an annular ecological farm using aeroponic cultivation techniques, a mobile market open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a public purification station where each person is limited to two hours of bathing time per week.”

”The underground core area is the Restricted Tier. It contains the Hive Warehouse, with 3,000 smart storage units and the doomsday seed vault; the Ghost Corridor, which leads to a secret laboratory; and an emergency command post capable of withstanding a nuclear strike.”

”The skyward alert zone is the Strategic Tier. It has Floating Beacon Towers that can project an anti-EMP shield, a Drone Mothership that houses 2,000 drones of various types, and a Climate Intervention Station that can artificially create a protective acid rain barrier.”

”Now for the Dynamic Resource Management System. The Doomsday Sand Table Simulation System can run real-time simulations of our supply consumption curve for the next thirty days and automatically generate three contingency plans.”

”The Survival Moral Decision-making AI will propose personnel prioritization suggestions when resources reach a critical point, and it will record the ethical weight coefficient for every resource allocation decision.”

”The Memory Bank Plan will use redundant servers to archive the data of human civilization. Residents can exchange valuable electronic devices for the right to access this inherited knowledge...”

Ji Xiaosong explained her plans, point by point. The meeting continued late into the night and was still going in the early hours of the morning.

Ji Xiaosong had already perfected every detailed plan. To avoid missing anything, Gu Changqing had even convened the nearest available teams of experts with all possible speed to join the discussion.

The meeting attendees gave up on returning home. When they grew tired, they would take a short nap before rejoining the discussion.

By the next day, a rough count of the entire country’s surviving population was complete. The downpour of acid rain had turned half the population of Country H into zombies.

There were no normal plants outside anymore. Almost all open-air vegetation had been burned to a blackened crisp.

The few that survived had either mutated or become zombies themselves.

Currently, the census of Superpower Users was being carried out with great urgency.

Thanks to the early and proper protection of communication infrastructure, the comms towers were still functioning normally.

The moment the authorities released the call for information, it was like a stone cast upon a lake, sending out ripples. Responses flooded in, providing an important foundation for subsequent resource allocation and base Construction.

Yongfeng Base was located south of the suburbs of Chenming City. To ensure the base’s security, the primary task was to gather all relevant information on Chenming City.

After obtaining the specific data, Gu Changqing called everyone together for another meeting.

He passed a data sheet to everyone present, then said, ”Everyone, before the apocalypse, Chenming City’s population was over twenty million. However, after the cataclysm, only about ten million remain. The number of Superpower Users is less than ten thousand, and the rest of the survivors are almost all ordinary people.”

Gu Lin added, ”We’ve discovered that the zombie virus is extremely contagious. If scratched or bitten by a zombie, there’s a fifty-percent chance of awakening a superpower. The other fifty percent will turn into a zombie.”

At his words, everyone except for Ji Xiaosong drew in a sharp breath.

In her past life, her original self had only known that a zombie scratch caused infection, not that it could also awaken a superpower. After all, the Ji family had all awakened their powers from the very start.

Wu Li frowned and asked, ”Is there no treatment for the zombie virus infection?”

Gu Lin shook his head. ”None. The medical team has already studied the components of the acid rain and the zombie virus, but they contain many substances we have never seen before.”

”So, this is actually an extraterrestrial substance?” Gu Changqing asked, looking to Ji Xiaosong for an answer.
