When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 135: Chapter 134: The Doomsday Big Boss Arrives 11

The month they had spent together flew by in a flash. Ji Xiaosong had keenly noticed that Gu Lin’s gaze was falling on her more and more frequently, and lingering for longer and longer.

Gu Lin had intentionally walked her home today and made such a gesture. Ji Xiaosong knew perfectly well what he was up to and decided to play along, but she still had to put on a bit of an act.

After all, life in the apocalypse was so harsh; one had to savor the sweetness of love when they could.

The moment the motion-sensor light in the entryway flickered on, Gu Lin’s shoes suddenly sank into a vortex that resembled quicksand.

Ji Youshu was leaning against the landing of the carved staircase. A brass-colored glow from his superpower seeped from between his fingers, which were pressed against the handrail. A basaltic pattern materialized on the surface of the marble steps.

”You brought her all the way home, Mr. Gu. Not even going to stay for a cup of tea?”

”Brother!”

Ji Xiaosong hurriedly pulled the overcoat from her shoulders, but the lingering body heat in its cashmere lining made her ears burn.

Song Ya emerged from the kitchen carrying a tray of ginger tea, her red coral earrings swaying gently with each step.

”That overcoat seems to fit our Song quite well, Little Gu. Thank you so much for taking care of her this past month.”

She pointedly ignored her daughter’s flushed cheeks, placing a celadon cup in front of Gu Lin. The bottom of the cup made a crisp clink against the glass coffee table.

”You’re too kind, Aunt Song. Xiaosong’s power is extraordinary; she’s an exemplar for our Superpower Team. She’s been the main force clearing out Chenming City this past month. In fact, you could say we’ve all been under her protection.”

When he spoke of Ji Xiaosong’s abilities, Gu Lin’s eyes filled with admiration.

People are naturally drawn to the strong, and he was no exception.

Dainty girls were cute, of course, but someone like Ji Xiaosong—who was not only cute but also incredibly powerful—was the one who truly made his heart race.

In this treacherous, post-apocalyptic world, Ji Xiaosong’s formidable superpower wasn’t just her own greatest asset—it was the bedrock of the entire team.

Gu Lin picked up the ginger tea and took a light sip. After chatting for a few more moments with Song Ya and Ji Youshu, he rose to take his leave.

Song Ya and Ji Youshu watched Gu Lin’s retreating figure. They exchanged a glance, and then Song Ya turned to Ji Xiaosong with a smile. ”Song, what do you think of that young man, Little Gu?”

Ji Xiaosong’s cheeks flushed red again. She lowered her head slightly, scuffing the floor with the toe of her shoe. ”He... he’s really nice, and he’s powerful, too. He’s helped me a lot in the Superpower Team.”

Ji Youshu crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. ”Just ’nice’ and ’powerful’? You don’t have any other thoughts?”

”Well... he has a Full Element Superpower, and he’s so responsible. If... if we had children someday, with a father like him, I’m sure they would be exceptional, too.” Ji Xiaosong broke into a wide grin. It was clear she was truly smitten with Gu Lin.

”Oh my, already thinking about children? Looks like our Song has really fallen for him.”

Ji Youshu sounded displeased. ”Sister, you’ve only known him for a month. What if he’s not really like this behind the scenes?”

Ji Chengguang spoke up then. ”Before the apocalypse, Gu Lin was the leader of the Central Special Action Group. Anyone who could shoulder that responsibility had to be an elite, subjected to rigorous screening and vetting at the national level. Now his father, Gu Changqing, is the base commander. With his family background and character, he’s a perfect match for our Song.”

’There was one more thing he left unsaid: before the apocalypse, given the Ji family’s standing, they could never have hoped to associate with a prominent and powerful clan like the Gu Family.’

’The Ji family, while wealthy and influential in their own right, was like a firefly compared to the brilliant moon of the Gu Family’s illustrious status. The difference was night and day.’

’If the apocalypse hadn’t happened, and if Ji Xiaosong hadn’t risen to prominence through her own power to become a force no faction could ignore, there would have been absolutely no way for the Ji family to stand on equal footing with the Gu Family and navigate the shifting tides of this new world together.’

”Song,” Ji Chengguang said, ”It seems to me that Gu Lin has feelings for you, too. Since you’re also interested in him, is there anything your mother and I can do to prepare?”

Ji Xiaosong thought for a moment before replying, ”If he really does have feelings for me, then I certainly won’t refuse him on the day he decides to make our relationship official. I might even take the opportunity to push things a step further. After all, in matters like this, a girl can’t be the one to make the first move. The guy should be the one taking the initiative.”

Song Ya couldn’t agree more. She took Ji Xiaosong’s hand, her face beaming with a smile. ”Our Song is both beautiful and capable, and she’s been adored by everyone since she was a little girl. In this apocalypse, everyone is just struggling to survive. But our Song not only has the power to protect herself, she can lead her team on the front lines. Not many men can compare to that. If Gu Lin is interested in you, then he’s the lucky one.”

Seeing that the rest of the family unanimously approved of Gu Lin, Ji Youshu, despite his own reservations, could only swallow the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
