Pillar of Yita

”Brother Ade,” Tianlan blinked with a tinge of red around her eyes, ”I was scared to death. I’m never coming to this place again, I will never come to places like this again—”

”What happened?”

”I don’t know, I was in a basement, and those people wanted to kill me. They looked so terrifying. I was tied to an altar and couldn’t move. They stabbed a dagger over my heart. Yes, that dagger!” She suddenly let out a low cry, ”Those mysterious attackers, that strange dagger, I watched them kill me with my eyes wide open, it was too horrific!”

Was this the dream Tianlan had seen? Fang Hong paused slightly. Could it be related to Dolifen’s past as well?

”Alright, alright, don’t get upset,” he calmly reassured her, ”It was just a dream, what you saw might be something that happened here long ago, it is long past our time now, Jeffrey just wanted to scare you.”

”I know, but isn’t this Phantom Realm still here?” Tianlan said tremblingly, ”There must be something that hasn’t left.”

Fang Hong frowned, he too was wondering what those dreams actually meant. Did they contain some underlying clues? Or were they merely a prank? And why did those mysterious people who had attacked them appear in Tianlan’s dreams? Was it just a reflection of daily thoughts in her sleep, or had they really appeared in this city before it was abandoned?

”Right, Gita, do you know when and why this place was abandoned?” He turned to ask Gita the question.

The little girl shook her head, ”I don’t know the specific reason, Brother Ade. This place seems to have been abandoned more than thirty years ago, but the Great Library of Elpaxin has very little record of the relevant clues, and there are not many parties involved—It’s a pity we have so little time, otherwise, I could definitely dig out some leads.”

”You’re already very impressive, Gita, you will surely become a great Natural Historian in the future,” Fang Hong encouraged her before asking, ”Is this considered unusual in history?”

”It’s rare, but it’s not unheard of, as sudden disasters have occurred, causing a high number of deaths and injuries. To prevent panic, the official Colin Ishurian response would tend to suppress the news.”

”What about the relatives?”

”I don’t know about that.”

”Our world is a little different from yours, Ade,” at that moment, Miss Hilveld came back with her maid from not far away. Having heard the conversation, she chimed in, ”Aside from the nobles, people rarely have distant relatives. The vision of an ordinary person is mostly limited to the place of their birth. Family relocation often happens only within neighborhood blocks, and unless there is a catastrophe that makes survival impossible, people generally don’t leave their hometowns.”

”So, does Miss Hilveld also lean towards the idea that such a tragedy had occurred in this town? Perhaps even leading to the entire city’s populace perishing in the disaster, and hence the presence of so many Undead here?” Fang Hong couldn’t help asking.

He recalled what he had seen and heard in the dream, flames reaching for the sky outside the window, heart-wrenching wails of despair, as if witnessing the end of the world.

Was that the scene from thirty years ago? But what exactly did Dolifen go through at that time?

Miss Hilveld nodded her head, ”I saw the disaster strike in my dreams, although I also can’t tell what it was exactly, but it was a chaotic street with everyone fleeing, as if something was striking down from the sky, continuously taking people down. I couldn’t see far in the dream, but there was this deep sense of fear in my heart as if I had experienced such an event somewhere before.”

”Miss Hilveld too?” Fang Hong couldn’t hide his surprise, ”I felt the same way, that feeling is indescribable, like I was not myself but an observer.”

”Perhaps,” the noble lady looked at him and replied, ”But being an observer might not be exactly the case.”
