Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: The Story About This World

So how did he die? Xu Xin didn’t ask this question.

”How do you plan to cooperate?”

If they want to find a survivor to cooperate with, then he must be able to do things these stone statues cannot.

”Let’s sit down and discuss the cooperation, you can come to our room.” The female stone statue suggested.

Xu Xin wasn’t foolish enough to follow them, he lifted the spear in his hand, pointing it directly at the two stone statues, and said coldly, ”We can talk right here.”

”You have no choice.”

The male stone statue, Chang Yin, suddenly stomped his foot, and the ground instantly began to tremble.

Following that, with a ”boom,” two stone walls at least ten centimeters thick rose from the ground in front and behind Xu Xin, crashing into the stone ceiling of the corridor with a ”bang,” trapping him in this narrow space.

Even the spear in his hand was slanted and stuck between the two walls.

These stone statues had such power!

Xu Xin immediately drew his iron sword and struck the stone wall, stone chips flew, leaving deep marks. But the stone wall was thick, and these few centimeters of marks were of no use, instead, the walls seemed to be closing in, as if trying to squeeze him to death.

”I advise you not to talk to her like that, or I will kill you even if I have to wait another twelve years.” Chang Yin’s voice turned cold, coming from the other side of the wall.

Damn, a wife-protecting fanatic.

But twelve years... what does it mean? It seems like if he kills me, he has to wait another twelve years?

The worry in Xu Xin’s heart eased a bit, it seemed that these two stone statues wouldn’t act against him for now.

Xu Xin heard the female stone statue’s voice outside the stone wall, urging him to stop.

The two walls slowly descended, sinking back into the ground, the surface returned smooth, making it completely impossible to tell that two stone walls had emerged from those spots.

And Chang Yin had regained that lazy smile: ”How is it, my strength is quite impressive, so I have no need to deceive you, if I wanted to kill you I would have already acted.”

Xu Xin took a deep breath and also smiled, reaching out his hand: ”Weren’t you going to talk about cooperation with me, lead the way then.”

Might as well follow their lead for now, he didn’t have the capability to fall out with these two stone statues at the moment.

The two stone statues asked Xu Xin for the small windmill and handed it to a small boy stone statue, telling him to return to the room to play by himself, while they led Xu Xin to the first room, which was Chang Yin’s study.

The wooden chairs and table were almost decayed, Chang Yin swept them aside, stomped his foot, and a stone square table and three stone stools rose up in the room.

”Have a seat like this for now, it’s been twelve years, this place is almost all rotten.” Chang Yin was the first to sit down heavily on a stone stool, the stone body making a ”crack” sound against the stone stool, the female stone statue was gentler, lightly sitting beside Chang Yin.

Xu Xin’s stone stool was opposite them, he glanced at it, and finally sat down.

”Let me introduce myself, I am Chang Yin, and this is my wife, Xue Lan.” Chang Yin said.

They both had an oriental appearance, but surprisingly even had Huaxian-style names.

”...I’m Xu Xin. How do you want to cooperate with me?” With their strength being so formidable, Xu Xin couldn’t imagine how he could help them.

”First, we want you to lead us out of this underground city, we’ve been here long enough, and we want to see the sunlight.” The male stone statue looked up, appearing somewhat wistful.

”Lead you out? You want to go to the surface?” Xu Xin was puzzled, weren’t they living in this underground city? Weren’t they conducting experiments here?

”That’s right. This year marks the forty-ninth year we’ve been trapped underground.”

Trapped... underground?

Then, this stone statue named Chang Yin told him a story.

Forty-nine years ago, there was a prosperous world, which according to Chang Yin’s description, was technologically on par with Earth.

But a cataclysm changed everything.

An unknown red light shone like sunlight on half the planet, and although it lasted only a short five minutes, it caused a massive transformation in half the world’s life forms.

Whether it was the land’s plants and animals, or the ocean’s creatures, they became abnormally large and grotesque, losing their will, and started an offensive driven only by instinct, attacking each other.

The other half, untouched by the red light, still had half of its human population surviving, and they began a strong resistance with their technology.

Initially, it was the mutated marine creatures attacking.

The mobility of marine creatures was high, and before humans could respond, countless mutated marine creatures had landed on the coast, starting a massive slaughter of everything alive.

Huge sea turtles the size of houses, giant octopuses only seen in movies, giant shells that could bite humans in half, and massive killer whales swimming everywhere, humans’ warships seemed like nothing when facing the hordes of mutated killer whales and other oceanic behemoths.

Humans lost all control over the seas.

After paying a heavy price, humans finally drove most of the landing mutated marine creatures back into the ocean, protecting their land territories.

But then, as if receiving an order, mutated birds and mosquitoes collectively flew across the hemisphere, launching attacks on human cities.

The single combat power of mutated birds and mosquitoes wasn’t actually strong, compared to the mutated sea creatures, they were much smaller since if they were too big they couldn’t fly.

But the overwhelming quantity was impossible to block, and in populous cities, large-scale weapons couldn’t be used. If just one or two cities were attacked, maybe they could sacrifice some to save the rest, but there were too many cities being attacked. In the end, humans collectively hid in underground air-raid shelters out of desperation.

When humans emerged again, everything had been razed to the ground, and before the thought of rebuilding homes could arise, mutated beast hordes on land arrived.

Countless gigantic beasts charged into human domiciles, as if entering an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Yet, what harmed humans most weren’t the gigantic beasts, but the gigantic... humans. These massive mutated humans were impervious to blades and bullets, and with even a shred of intelligence left, they targeted densely populated areas, specifically destroying weapon bases and air-raid shelters.

Humans deployed their most powerful weapons again, but with little effect, the mutated beasts were too numerous to kill them all, and in the end, inevitably, humans suffered a total defeat.

Chang Yin and Xue Lan’s family were among the few survivors, and they had no choice but to live underground.

The story after that they didn’t tell, not revealing how they became their current form, just that they wished to return to the surface where they once lived.

”As a sign of sincerity in our cooperation, I’ve told you the truth as I know it. We were once just like you, human, so you don’t need to be too hostile towards us.” Chang Yin concluded with a final remark.

Xu Xin was silent for a moment, although he felt they had no reason to deceive him, he still held some reservations.

In Chang Yin’s story, those gigantic mutated monsters were mutated due to exposure to light on the surface, taking over the land and sea, but Xu Xin found them underground, while aboveground were mostly ordinary beasts.

As for the giant creatures he saw on the surface, there were only three: the Lake Giant Python, the Streambed Giant Crocodile, and the Blood Pattern Giant. None of them attacked him, and all had their own consciousness, the giant communicated with gestures, and the crocodile even showed great goodwill towards him.

The python and crocodile didn’t have blood patterns, but the giant did, similar to mutated beasts.

However, the underground monsters Xu Xin encountered seemed to have truly lost their sanity, constantly fighting each other.

Moreover... this world was eerily similar to Earth, making Xu Xin question the connection between the two worlds, if what they said was true.

So far, except for the gigantic monsters underground, all the creatures on the surface had corresponding species on Earth, just slightly larger. Even the stone statue in front of him spoke the same language as he did.
