Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Humanoid Statue

Carefully observing the stone statue in front of him, his attire is luxurious and neat, as if he were an elite of high society. His body is in a writing posture, just as if that contract was penned by him.

Xu Xin observed the surroundings of the room. Aside from the stone statue, wooden table, and chair, the room contained nothing else. It was a closed stone chamber with just one door and no windows.

Other than the stone statue in front of him emanating a green glow, there was nothing else of note.

Hesitating for a moment, he reached out and touched the lifelike stone statue.

[Humanoid Stone Statue (Green): A mysterious statue that seems to harbor an eerie life force.]

Upon hearing this introduction, Xu Xin quickly withdrew his hand.

Harboring life force!

Does that mean this humanoid stone statue could come to life!

”Hmm?” Keke was startled by Xu Xin’s sudden action. It turned to look at the statue, then at Xu Xin, and suddenly jumped onto the statue’s head, scratching it with its paw, and then tilted its head toward Xu Xin as if to say, ”See, there’s no danger.”

Xu Xin picked it up directly: ”Don’t mess around! This thing might come to life!”

”Hmm?” Keke was puzzled, could this big stone really come to life?

Xu Xin thought of the broken door bolt.

The bolt was inserted from inside the door, and inside was only this stone statue, so who had inserted the bolt after all?

Feeling a chill upon reflection, he pursed his lips and slowly backed out of the room.

Having destroyed the bolt, Xu Xin could only leave the door ajar.

Just now, he thought this statue was the same type of tool as the statue in his tree house, which could be taken away. But he remembered clearly, the statue in the tree house was called [Humanoid Statue], whereas this one was [Humanoid Stone Statue].

He just tried to put this thing into his backpack, but it didn’t work.

Why didn’t it work? Because it has life force? Because the backpack can’t store living things? But is this thing really alive?

Xu Xin got goosebumps.

Taking a deep look at the door he just closed, Xu Xin proceeded to the next door.

Xu Xin walked a few meters along the passage and arrived at the second door.

This time, he didn’t kick it directly but placed his foot on the door and pushed hard. This would make less noise.

Sure enough, the decaying bolt inside the door was directly pushed off, and the door opened.

Seeing the situation inside, Xu Xin frowned tightly.

”Another statue?”

Inside this room, there was only a bed, and on the bed lay a stone statue of a woman with her eyes closed, seemingly asleep and directly facing the doorway Xu Xin entered.

It was an Asian female face; even as a statue, Xu Xin could still feel her beauty.

The female statue lying on the bed wore luxurious pajamas, and although she lay on a simple and somewhat decaying wooden bed, she exuded an aura of elegance and grace, undiminished by the gloomy and dilapidated surroundings.

At this moment, beside the female statue’s pillow, there was a ring, sparkling and emitting a blue glow.

Xu Xin walked gently to the bed and cautiously picked up the ring.

[Mutated Beast Ring (Blue): Can store five tamed low-level mutated beasts. Remember, it can only store mutated beasts! Don’t forget to feed them, or the mutated beasts inside will starve to death.]

A ring that can store mutated beasts like a Poké Ball!

Before entering, Xu Xin was thinking that if there was a tool that could store living things, he could bring Silver King in. Unexpectedly, he found such a tool here.

However, it can only store mutated beasts, so it’s of no use to Silver King.

Xu Xin touched the stone statue in front of him with his hand.

[Humanoid Stone Statue (Green): A mysterious statue that seems to harbor an eerie life force.]

The description was the same as the previous male statue.

Two enigmatic stone statues, two kinds of tools related to mutated creatures.

What was this dungeon originally?

Why are there some unpolluted mutated beasts here, and why is a mutated beast contract found here, along with a ring that can store mutated beasts?

And who was the person at the stone table at the corridor entrance, carving words about a fate worse than death?

Could it be that this place was once an experiment site for rearing mutated beasts?

Xu Xin did not store the ring in the backpack to take up space; instead, he wore it on his hand.

”If we encounter mutated beasts later, we can try to tame them.”

There was nothing else in this room, so Xu Xin exited and closed the door.

Just at the moment he closed the door, he saw something that suddenly made his hair stand on end, and he gasped.

”Keke, when we first went in, the statue’s eyes were closed, right?” Xu Xin asked Keke on his shoulder at the door.

”Hmm.” Keke nodded its little head affirmatively.

Indeed, the eyes were closed, but just now, how did he see the woman’s statue’s eyes open?!

Was it an illusion?

Clenching his teeth, Xu Xin drew the iron sword from his waist.

All fear stems from the unknown, all fear stems from the lack of power; he didn’t want this anxious feeling to continue. He directly thrust open the door he had just closed.

The stone statue woman was still lying sideways on the bed, eyes closed, looking lazy yet elegant.

”Did I really see it wrong just now?” Xu Xin stared at the statue with some doubt.

The stone statue’s posture and facial expression were exactly the same as when he first came in.

Glaring firmly at the statue’s expression, Xu Xin closed the door once more. This time, he didn’t see the stone statue’s eyes open.

”Maybe it’s a hallucination due to stress.” Xu Xin consoled himself this way.

He really hoped the statue wouldn’t actually come to life.

However, he still remained cautious, constantly aware of the doors behind him left ajar.

At the third door, Xu Xin entered again using a push.

”...Another statue.”

This time, it was the stone statue of a boy who looked about seven or eight years old.

The room was empty without any furniture. The boy’s statue held a small windmill, posed as if running. The windmill in his hand was not part of the statue, but a real existing red windmill.

The boy’s appearance seemed somewhat similar to the previous male and female statues, suggesting they might be the child’s parents... this kind of setting.

Xu Xin still found it hard to believe these statues were once real people.

He approached the boy’s statue and took the windmill from the boy’s hand.

[Small Windmill (Blue): The special airflow and scent produced when turned will attract the attention of low-level mutated beasts. Perhaps mutated beasts also like to play with windmills?]

Another tool related to mutated beasts.

This seemed to be a whole set of tools: attraction, contract, and then storage.

But Xu Xin noticed that in the descriptions of these three tools, it was clearly stated that their target was ”low-level” mutated beasts.

Of course, this might be related to the grade of the items, but how low exactly was ”low-level”?

As low as Blood Pattern Bats? As low as Blood-Striped Toads? Or perhaps, were the Blood Pattern Rabbit and Cat summoned in the altar also low-level?

Leaving this room, Xu Xin continued to walk deeper into the corridor.

The first three rooms were somewhat far from the other rooms.

Xu Xin walked over ten meters into the corridor before reaching the fourth room’s entrance. Although this room’s door was wooden, its style and texture seemed much more rudimentary than the previous three rooms.

He gently pushed the door, which wasn’t locked, and it opened directly.
