Berserk God of War

202: Chapter 202: Imperial City’s First Songstress 202: Chapter 202: Imperial City’s First Songstress Sikong Jing then continued, “Yuwen Guan, since you’ve decided to be a dog, be a good one.

Don’t harbor unnecessary thoughts, or you’ll die.”

After he finished speaking, the Flying Blood Colorful Winged Horse neighed sharply and disappeared from sight.

There was silence in the Xuanyuan Sect, and Yuwen Guan clutched his chest, nearly bursting with anger.

Meanwhile, Yang Tianmo’s lips quivered uncontrollably, he too was about to explode with rage.

What made him even more flustered was how strong Sikong Jing was.

If Sikong Jing were to reach the Desolate Realm, killing him would be as easy as reaching into a bag.

Suddenly, he noticed the gazes of the million young people below, filled with strangeness.

Clenching his teeth, Yang Tianmo resumed his appearance of deep grief and distress.

“Sikong Jing, I truly regarded you as a son.

Why must you force me like this, even accusing me of sabotaging your Dantian?”

“If that were true, could you still have the chance to accuse me of assassination now?”

These words enlightened the young people.

Only a few among them had a glint of skepticism in their eyes.

An hour later, the lecture ended.

Inside the Imperial Palace, Yuwen Guan knelt before Yang Tianmo, continuously kowtowing.

Yang Tianmo said coldly, “Yuwen Guan, if you still wish to live, come up with a way to kill him during tomorrow’s test.”

In response, Yuwen Guan clenched his teeth.

What an uncomfortable position to be in!

“Tonight, I will help you cut off the power belonging to Sikong Jing’s Dantian, allowing you to recover,” Yang Tianmo said.

At these words, Yuwen Guan’s face lit up with ecstasy, and he kowtowed vigorously: “Thank Your Majesty, Yuwen Guan is willing to die a thousand deaths.”

Being a dog has its benefits!

Yang Tianmo sneered repeatedly, knowing that a mix of kindness and strictness was his best play.

…

After leaving the Xuanyuan Sect, Sikong Jing found himself in the streets of the Imperial City.

Walking on the once familiar streets, his heart was filled with myriad emotions, ending in a wry smile.

In the past, people discussed how formidable the Invincible God General was…

Now what he heard were denunciations of Sikong Jing betraying the Great Shang, describing him as a heinous criminal, an enemy of the Great Shang Dynasty.

Then Sikong Jing let out a carefree laugh.

Why would he care about the opinions of the unimportant?

When he tricked Yuwen Guan into revealing his true feelings earlier, it was merely to sicken Yang Tianmo.

What did the views of the world mean to him?

After all, this was a world where might made right.

The trust of his dearest was enough!

Thinking of his loved ones and looking at the bustling streets, Sikong Jing’s mind stirred slightly as he murmured to himself, “It’s been a long time since I listened to music.

I wonder if my sister Changlian has been affected by my issues?”

In the Imperial City, there is a river named the Golden Smoke River.

The river is dotted with colorful boats, and when night falls, it becomes the most bustling place in the city.

A sacred place for gentlemen and patrons.

Sikong Jing, impetuous in his youth, naturally visited such a place of beauty and pleasure.

However, he was always there just to listen to music and not to stay overnight.

Moreover, almost no one knew he was the Great Merchant Invincible God General.

He used to visit simply to find a place where no one knew him, just to enjoy a moment of tranquility after coming from the battlefield.

But there was one person who knew his identity—she was the Imperial City’s First Songstress, Ye Changlian!

A woman whom Sikong Jing regarded as his own sister.

As dusk fell, at the edge of the Golden Smoke River, Sikong Jing boarded one of the largest flower boats, familiar with the path.

“My, isn’t that Young Master Jing?”

“You haven’t come for several months, Miss Ye Changlian mentions you every day,” said the madam as she greeted him upon the flower boat; yet she only knew of Young Master Jing, unaware of Sikong Jing’s full name.

For these past months, I’ve been entangled in worldly affairs,” Sikong Jing replied casually, as per usual, leaving behind a small bag of Gold Crystal Coins.

Then he found a spot to sit down in the large hall of the flower boat.

The timing was just perfect.

Ye Changlian, clad in her colorful attire, gracefully carried her qin to the center.

Her beauty was extraordinary, exuding an innate sense of fragility that evoked sympathy and a desire to cherish and protect.

However, her looks were not the key; it was her singing voice that truly astonished people.

As soon as Ye Changlian settled down, she noticed Sikong Jing and offered him a faint smile before her qin music began to play.

It remained distant and serene as ever, as if baptizing one’s soul.

Meanwhile, Sikong Jing watched her without a single trace of love in his eyes, only…

deep agony!

When her singing started, Sikong Jing, like before, found himself engulfed in childhood memories.

Orphaned from a young age, he had lived in an ordinary small town in Great Shang’s Youzhou State, and he had a sister named Sikong Ling.

The year their parents disappeared, he was eight, and his sister, four.

From that moment on, Sikong Jing’s daily task was to feed his sister—pushing carts for peddlers, hunting rabbits in the mountains, helping fishermen retrieve things from the river, anything he could do, he did.

He single-handedly sustained them both, as his sister was his entire world back then.

At the age of twelve, his sister fell seriously ill, and he desperately sought a doctor to treat her, begging on his knees.

But with no money, no one was willing to help treat his sister, to provide medicine.

“Sister, you must hang in there; tomorrow, I’ll have money, and I will buy you the medicine to cure your illness,” Sikong Jing, with a face full of determination, assured her at that time.

Afterward, he rushed off to where soldiers were being recruited.

Joining the Great Shang Army meant a sum of money.

Yet no one wanted him because he was only twelve years old.

But he fought fiercely, battling everyone larger than himself, striking them down one by one, including Luu Ji at the time.

That’s how he successfully joined the army and received a handsome sum of money.

When he returned home, his face swollen with exhilaration and bruises, what awaited him were his sister’s final words.

“Brother, you’re finally back.

But Ling’er is so cold!”

Sikong Ling quietly curled up in her brother’s arms…

Mad with panic, Sikong Jing carried his sister from doctor to doctor, one after another, all shaking their heads, powerless to help, until her body gradually grew cold in his embrace.

That day, the rain poured heavily, thunder roared, and the young Sikong Jing howled at the heavens.

“Young Master Jing, are you thinking of your sister again?”

His memories shattered suddenly as a beautiful, melodious voice sounded—it was Ye Changlian, who had finished her song at some unknown point.

Sikong Jing lifted his head, gently wiping the tears from his face, and answered, “Yes, Sister Changlian.”

The first time he saw Ye Changlian, he thought his sister had returned from the dead, for they looked so similar.

But ultimately, there were many differences, yet he had fallen for this place nonetheless.

Because seeing Ye Changlian was like having his sister by his side once more.

For this reason, he disclosed to Ye Changlian his status as the Great Merchant Invincible God General and shared the story of himself and his sister with her.

Once, Sikong Jing had spent the entire night in Ye Changlian’s room, but only regarded her as his sister and did not lay a finger on her.

“So, Young Master Jing, will you stay in Sister Changlian’s room tonight?”

Ye Changlian asked softly, her breath carrying a faint fragrance.

A glint passed through Sikong Jing’s eyes as he shook his head and replied, “I cannot involve you.”

Having said that, Sikong Jing stood up, ready to leave…

Suddenly, a breeze picked up behind him.

He was caught around the waist by Ye Changlian, her murmuring voice ringing out: “Brother, I’m not afraid!”
