My Youth Began With Him

Hearing the big news that Huo Mian was hospitalized, her many friends all raced to the hospital to see her, including Jiang Xiaowei, Zhu Lingling, Qin Ning and Tang Chuan, who had just returned from the States.

Each day, her ward was full of visitors…

The weird thing was that Qin Chu had never brought the twins to visit Huo Mian.

When asked, he’d say he didn’t want to alarm the kids with their mom’s accident.

But the real reason was that he didn’t want his kids to be near this monster.

Zhu Lingling brought flowers and fruits and was chatting with Huo Mian in the ward.

Gao Ran and Qin Chu waited in the corridor.

“Any progress with the case?” Qin Chu asked.

“Not a clue. The kids went missing. I feel useless.”

“It’s not your fault,” said Qin Chu.

“Of course, it’s my fault. I’m responsible for this city’s public security. I don’t deserve to sit at this position…”

Gao Ran felt deep guilt.

“Gao Ran, I know you’ll be more alarmed, but I’ve got to tell you that more of such disappearances might happen.”

“What do you mean?”

“Anyway, you must send out more patrols. It might happen very soon…”

“Chu, what on earth do you know that I don’t?”

Having been friends with Qin Chu for many years, Gao Ran knew him very well. Hearing Qin Chu’s words, Gao Ran was alarmed.

“I can’t explain. It’s just my deduction…”

“Do you know the criminal?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Tell me who he is; I’ll catch him and interrogate him.” Gao Ran was anxious.

“It’s not time yet.”

“Damn, what do you mean?”

But Qin Chu didn’t say more about it. He just had a vague feeling that Leila would make her move again very soon after being wounded.

His conjecture was right. And it happened right that night instead of a few days later.

That night, a little girl who came to visit her sick grandma disappeared in the hospital mysteriously, just like those kids missing from the kindergarten.

The hospital pulled out all the surveillance videos but couldn’t find a clue; the kid just vanished into thin air.

The kid’s parents were crazy with worry and the incident caused an uproar in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Huo Mian, no, Leila, was lying in bed and watching the news and listening to music leisurely.

She was in a great mood after having a good meal.

She could steal some bagged blood from the blood storage room in the hospital, but it wasn’t Leila’s style. She must have fresh blood from live people.

It was like how some people loved having fresh fish instead of frozen fish.

The young nurse who came to change bandages for her was gossiping about the missing kid.

“The atmosphere in the hospital is weird. Everyone is saying there’s a ghost in here, making me afraid to take night duties. For some reason, the kid just vanished. No one saw her go out of the hospital. But they searched the whole place and couldn’t find her… This is really creepy.”

“Do you believe there are ghosts in the world?” Huo Mian asked the young nurse with a smile.

“Hehe. Vice Director, you’re joking. We study medicine, so of course we don’t believe in ghosts… I’m not afraid of ghosts, but the creepy thing alarmed everyone.”

Huo Mian smiled but didn’t say anything.

“Huh? Vice Director, do you smell something?”

“No. What smell?” Huo Mian was expressionless.

“I seem to smell blood… Did your wound burst open?”

The young nurse had a keen sense of smelling; she pulled open the covering and checked the wound on Huo Mian’s chest.
