My Youth Began With Him

“Not bad,” Pudding replied with a smile.

“You inherited your daddy’s genes… I have no interest in doing business… My head would explode when I read those quarterly reports.”

“You’re lame. Do you want your son to be a policeman just like you?” Zhu Lingling gave her husband a dirty look.

“We policemen are not lame. Without our protection, how can you live in a peaceful society?”

“Dad, but I still don’t want to be a police officer,” Boyuan cut in.

“See? Even your son doesn’t want to be a policeman. Our Boyuan has great ambitions.” Zhu Lingling touched her son’s head lovingly.

“What do you want to do?”

“I want to open a cake shop with Little Bean,” Boyuan said cheerfully.

Zhu Lingling: “…”

Gao Ran: “Honey, is this what you call great ambitions?”

“Um… the cake shop can be a chain enterprise. If you could make it into a Michelin-starred shop, you’d be rich…” Zhu Lingling argued.

At this moment, the door opened and Huo Mian walked in.

Dressed in a simple black windbreaker, she looked the same as before, except for her belly.

“Vice Director Huo, you just got off work?” Gao Ran asked.

“Yeah. They put in a surgery at the last minute and I went to check on it. It’s fine. Now let’s eat.”

Waitresses began to bring dishes to the table.

The kids ate a little and went to one side to play, leaving the four adults to chat over the meal.

Patiently, Qin Chu peeled shrimp for Huo Mian and placed the meat carefully onto her plate.

“Honey, I want to eat crabs…”

“No. They are too chilly for you…”

“Only one, please? Just one…” Huo Mian begged.

“No. Last time you ate only two legs but still had an uncomfortable feeling in your stomach for a long while.” Qin Chu was stern.

“Ahem… You invited us here to see you PDA, right?”

“Yeah. All these years, we’ve watched loads of PDA from you guys…” Zhu Lingling agreed with her husband.

“You should feel honored to have watched our PDA for years.” Huo Mian chuckled.

“To be honest, I’m now tired of watching it… It’s too sweet for my taste…” Gao Ran sipped his beer.

“You can close your eyes…” Mr. Qin spoke cuttingly.

“Fack. How can you treat me like this…”

“Forget it, Honey. We should focus on the food and ignore them…” Zhu Lingling continued to eat.

Then Gao Ran remembered the thing with Chen Yuning.

He coughed lightly and said, “Honey, um…I’ve got something to tell you.”

“Speak.”

“Here’s the thing. Today, when I finished a meeting…”

“Get to the point.” Zhu Lingling picked up a crab and began to eat.

“The point is I agreed to treat Little Chen to a meal.”

“It’s fine. I have no problem with it.”

“Honey, you’re not angry?”

“No.”

“Haha. I knew our Lingling is cool outside but warm inside. You’re the most generous and understanding…” Before he could finish, Zhu Lingling said, “When you come back from the meal, what do you want to kneel on, durian or prickly pear cactus?”

“Hahaha…” Huo Mian laughed out loud.

“I think a board of nails will be better.” This came from Mr. Qin.

“Qin Chu, you’re vicious…” Gao Ran felt like crying; he had known his wife wouldn’t be so agreeable.

“Chief Gao, what tricks did Little Chen play on you, making you treat her to a meal at the risk of your life?” Huo Mian got to the point quickly.

She put emphasis on the words “at the risk of your life”, which was totally fitting to Gao Ran’s situation.
