My Youth Began With Him

“That’s impossible. She was living in your South Side Recuperation Center. She only left the hospital when you had your birthday party.”

Obviously, Secretary Zeng knew Zeng Rou’s activities very well.

“But she’s a patient in the hospital. Her whereabouts is her personal business and I don’t have the right to intervene… I’ve been looking for her and trying to contact her. I even pulled out the video surveillance of the hospital but found no clues. I think you’d better ask her bodyguards. They guarded her and should know better than I do.”

Huo Mian didn’t stammer just because the man was the party secretary of the provincial government.

Instead, she replied with dignity and even revealed a trace of disapproval about Zeng Rou.

Director Wu listened to their conversation in silence. In fact, he was totally in the dark.

About to retire, he had handed out many of his duties and seldom went to the First Hospital.

His immigration application had been approved, and he was about to wrap things up with Huo Mian and went abroad to enjoy his retirement.

But before he could leave, such a big thing happened.

He didn’t know Zeng Rou, but from the conversation between Huo Mian and Secretary Zeng, he understood the secretary’s daughter went missing when she was recovering at South Side.

Director Wu was alarmed; if the secretary’s daughter went missing, no matter how it happened, South Side couldn’t get out of it unscathed.

“Child, I heard you’re very good with your speech; now I know the rumor is true. Instead of being frightened, you complained about me.”

“Secretary, I didn’t complain. I was stating the facts. Zeng Rou’s my friend. In fact, her wound has healed long ago, but I don’t know why she still stayed in the hospital. I think she might have other things to do. I think you can do some investigation on it, Secretary.”

Huo Mian didn’t know if Secretary Zeng knew about her daughter’s eavesdropping of her, so she said the words to test the waters.

Sure enough, Secretary Zeng’s eyes turned unreadable after hearing her words.

“Don’t worry. I summoned you guys here just to understand the situation.”

“Secretary, if your daughter truly went missing, it’s a big deal. I suggest you get our local police to search for her,” Director Wu said these words. But did the secretary dare to ask the police to search for his daughter?

“I’m still trying to figure out the situation. I don’t know if Rou went for a trip on a whim or was kidnapped. So I don’t want to act rashly. If she was kidnapped, getting the police to search for her would alert the kidnappers. I’ll think about it.”

Secretary Zeng lifted his hand and rubbed at his temple.

As a father, he was truly worried about his daughter.

Huo Mian pitied him and said, “Secretary, I don’t suggest a big-scale search. You’d better do it secretly. Zeng Rou is an adult and very smart. I think the kidnappers are definitely not ordinary people. I wonder if they have a political agenda. It would be troublesome if they did it because of your position.”

Hearing Huo Mian’s words. Secretary Zeng furrowed his brows tighter.

“I know. You can go now.”

Seeing he couldn’t get any useful information from them, Secretary Zeng waved at his people and had them usher Huo Mian and Director Wu out.

On their way back, Director Wu didn’t dare to ask about the issue, so Huo Mian didn’t speak to him.

She felt Zeng Rou’s disappearance was very complicated and wondered about the force behind the kidnap. Did it have anything to do with…Yan?

It was true that it was a piece of cake for Lu Yan to kidnap someone. But Huo Mian didn’t believe Yan would kidnap someone from under her nose without telling her first.

Meanwhile in a broken fishing boat, Zeng Rou lay unconscious in a sack; only her head was revealed.

“Wake her up with water.”
