Child of Destiny

Chapter 315: An Anticlimactic Fight

...…

Janine did not expect that she was able to expose the trick behind her battle style. But she immediately regained her composure a little later.

Then she looked at Shin and suddenly started giggling. ”I donʼt expect this. But so what if you manage to figure it out? You still donʼt know my real class and-…”

But before she managed to complete what she was saying, Shin suddenly cut her words off by saying. ”Arenʼt you just a Twilight? The thief-related class meant for elves?”

Hearing that, Janine suddenly stopped talking and stared at Shin with an astounded look on her face. And even if the expression on her face was being hidden by the hood of her cloak, Shin could still tell what she was currently feeling.

And before Janine could ask how Shin managed to get an accurate guess about her class, he immediately added. ”This game is actually following some certain untold rules. The class of every player will be closely related to their main race and the available basic classes under it. So, guessing your main class is quite easy.”

Then he quietly added in his mind. ʼThanks to the online articles written by that ʼMolton Potterʼ guy I manage to pick up a lot of things regarding this game. And since he also put quite a lot of proof together with those articles, I can be at ease at trusting it.ʼ

After that, he further proved his guess. ”As for the ʼbodyʼ that plays the flute when you are fighting, it is actually just a phantom. Some sort of clone that canʼt attack or canʼt be attacked, which is why you leave it playing with a flute while your real body entered stealth before killing your opponents.”

Shin started chuckling when things reached this point and said with a ridiculing tone. ”Hehe… It is actually a good cover to hide your real battle style. Unfortunately, it is not enough to fool my eyes.”

Hearing the right on the mark deductions of Shin, one after another, Janine finally lost herself and shouted at the latter. ”Shut up!”

Her original plan was to keep on provoking Shin using her hated words so that he would lose his composure. This strategy was quite effective so far since she knew that men would refuse to yield down when being ridiculed especially with their so-called manʼs pride. Unfortunately for her, Shin was too calm at dealing with this kind of thing now.

So, since her cover had already been blown up, Janine had no other choice but to attack Shin like a usual Twilight would do.

But first she needed to misdirect Shinʼs sight away from her so that she could enter her stealth more easily. Having this in mind, Janine suddenly took off her cloak and swung it forward to block Shin line of sight. And when that cloak fell on the ground, she disappeared from the spot that she previously stood.

Shin raised one of his eyebrows a little the moment he saw that. He was actually using Janineʼs tactics on her and he was expecting that she would be at least a little reckless at attacking him, but he kind of did not expect that she would remain too calm like this.

Regardless, Shin still used his ʼTrue Sightʼ ocular skill to find Janineʼs current location. But much to his surprise, he couldnʼt find her at all. ”Huh!? A high-ranking stealth skill? Now, this is a little interesting.”

There were a very few players that could bypass Shinʼs ocular skill since it was at Epic Rank; Actually, Faker was the only player that Shin knew who could hide from the ʼTrue Sightʼ skill.

And since things reached this point, Shin chose to also rely on his ʼSensing Circleʼ to locate his opponent. Given this, Shin shrunk the range of the ʼSensing Circleʼ into 7 meters so that he could maximize its sensing ability.

At the same time, he was still trying to find Janineʼs location by occasionally moving his eyes around him. But quite some time has already passed and she was still not making any kind of move, making it hard for him to find her location.

”Still refusing to make any kind of move? Trying to test my patience? Heh! I guess you are testing the wrong opponent this time.” Shin started smirking when he realized what his opponent was trying to do this time.

With that, he turned his head left and right before walking towards a wooden bench that seemed to be still intact. And after getting near, he sat on that wooden bench with his back leaning backwards.

Then he crossed his arms in front of him while also embracing his sheathed sword at the same time; it was as if he was going to nap in the middle of the match.

”Now, letʼs see who would be the first one to run out of patience,” muttered Shin while smirking inwardly.

In the meantime, Miss Bunny was currently having a cold sweat as she watched the ʼbattleʼ between Shin and Janine. This matchup was supposedly one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament given that the two contenders were the rising stars of their respective Kingdoms. But from how the things were going, it seems she was going to get scolded after this coverage was done.

ʼLooks like I am going to lose my job even if this guy manages to win this fight,ʼ thought Miss Bunny to herself as he didnʼt know how to properly cover the ʼbattleʼ.

It was fine if they were at least exchanging some moves from time to time, but since the start of the match Shin and Janine actually didnʼt do anything. All they did was to stand on their spots and talk to each other. And what even made it coverage even worse was the broadcast couldnʼt hear what the two contenders were talking about.

On the other hand, Mr. Cool Guy was swearing inside as he also couldnʼt stand this awkward spot especially that he didnʼt want to cover this battle since the beginning. But he needed to be professional and do his job since that was what his boss had ordered.

And what made him want to cry right now was because the live chat was actually swearing at him even if the idea of covering this matchup didnʼt come from him. And as if rubbing some salt on his wounds, Shin took a seat on a wooden bench as if he was going to take a rest when he couldnʼt locate his opponent.

But as his name implied, he needed to act cool in this kind of situation. So, he maintained his smile and cleared his throat before saying. ”*Ehem!* This is quite surprising. We are not expecting that these two contenders will not make their signature moves.”

Hearing that, Miss Bunny also regained her composure and immediately went with the flow. ”You are right about that partner. The ʼNameless Swordsmanʼ didnʼt do his signature opening move like what he usually does.”

”Well, that may be because he predicted that Janine will dodge that flashy opening move,” said Mr. Cool Guy. And after a slight pause, he immediately added. ”But what really surprises me here, she is not using her usual style.”

Miss Bunny immediately replied. ”You are right about that. She is not using her flute and playing a song. Instead she uses a stealth skill? We all are not expecting it.”

Then an awkward silence suddenly descended as both of them didnʼt know what to say next since there was actually nothing they could say about this matchup. All they could do was to swear on themselves and pray for this battle to end as soon as possible.

Going back to the match, Janine was actually starting to lose her patience as she watched Shin from the distance.

”Whatʼs wrong with this guy? Is he going to remain like that until the end of the fight?”

All Janine could do was to swear inwardly as she knew that Shin was actually setting a trap for her. Others might not be able to pinpoint it with a single look but she could see that Shin actually picked a tricky spot to sit onto.

Shin sat on a wooden bench which was facing its back on the wall and behind that bench was a pile of broken wooden benches. So, it was pretty much impossible to attack Shin from behind since she would surely be going to get noticed if she tried to walk onto that pile of broken wooden benches.

She also couldnʼt attack from front since from what she could see from his previous battle, she was quite sure that Shin had an ocular skill that could spot her if ever she got near its detection range.

Range attacks would also become ineffective against Shin since the range skills that she currently had was only a bunch of throwing skills. And if she attacked using those, she would only be exposing herself to her own death.

Due to that, all she could do was to continue this patient game which she was about to lose. But she refused to yield and continued to persevere until the end. And just like that, this kind of battle setup continued for a while.

Until…

”You have a quite good hiding skill, huh? It takes me quite an effort to find you in such a small place.”

Janine suddenly heard a familiar voice right beside her. She wanted to jump away from her spot as soon as she could, but before she could even do anything, she felt that her body was currently falling lifelessly on the ground.

All she could do in her final moments was to stare at the man standing beside her with full of disbelief; she couldnʼt understand how this guy appeared out of nowhere even if she was closely watching him.

And just like that, this anticlimactic matchup suddenly ended in the most unexpected way in the eyes of all of the audiences, which also caught everyone further off-guard.
