I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 311: Chapter 209: Fatal Medical Accident (Part 3)

Jiang He’s speed was so fast it was suffocating.

Meng Shiyu mechanically cut the sutures at his side, not even daring to breathe.

To be honest, he had never seen such a decisive surgical procedure...

Every one of Jiang He’s movements was frighteningly fast.

It was as if this backup plan, meant to salvage a fatal mistake, had already been rehearsed in his mind thousands upon thousands of times.

In just under ten minutes, a perfect double-barrel stoma was secured to the patient’s left abdominal wall.

The source of contamination was completely cut off.

But the crisis wasn’t over. A large amount of fecal fluid remained in the abdominal cavity.

”Chen Jing, go to the warming cabinet and bring over all the warm saline! A whole cart. If that’s not enough, get more from the operating room next door. Hurry!”

Chen Jing froze for a second, then immediately turned and rushed out of the operating room.

Soon, she rushed back in, pushing a cart loaded with whole cases of warm saline.

”Open them, pour them all into the basin.”

Jiang He picked up a large stainless steel basin.

”Crank the suction to maximum negative pressure! Meng Shiyu, grab the other suction tube.”

Next, Jiang He poured basin after basin of warm saline into Guo Chengyu’s abdominal cavity.

The saline flushed the surface of the liver, the spaces between the intestines, and the paracolic gutters.

Then, two suction tubes worked in tandem, furiously suctioning out the murky fluid.

Pour, suction.

Pour again, suction again.

Five liters.

Ten liters.

Twenty liters.

A full thirty liters of warm saline were poured into the abdominal cavity and then suctioned out.

Until the fluid from the suction finally ran clear.

The exhaustive abdominal lavage was complete.

Lin Peidong stared at the monitor in disbelief. ”His blood pressure is stabilizing... 85/50 mmHg. Heart rate is down to 110. We can lower the norepinephrine dosage... Leader Jiang, you pulled him back!”

Hearing this, Xu Chen, who was leaning against the wall, felt the last of the strength leave his legs. He slid down the wall and slumped onto the cold floor.

He buried his head in his knees, his shoulders shaking violently.

’He survived.’

’He actually survived.’

Jiang He paid no attention to the emotional state of the people around him.

’The surgery isn’t over yet.’

”Continue debriding the necrotic pancreatic tissue.”

Jiang He dissected the gastrocolic ligament, exposing the pancreas behind it.

He used ring forceps to remove the necrotic pancreatic tissue.

This time, with the contamination completely under control, the debridement process went surprisingly smoothly.

After placing four large-bore, multi-fenestrated silicone drains, it was time for the final step: abdominal closure.

A normal suture closure was clearly not an option.

The patient’s bowels were still severely edematous, and forcibly closing the abdomen would very likely trigger secondary abdominal compartment syndrome, once again compressing the inferior vena cava and leading to shock.

”Give me an empty, sterile 3,000-milliliter saline bag.”

This was the technique Jiang He had just used on Zhang Sui’s daughter: the Bogota bag (a temporary abdominal closure technique using a sterile bag).

But this time, its significance was different.

This wasn’t just to increase the volume of the abdominal cavity and relieve intra-abdominal hypertension.

More importantly, this transparent, sterile plastic sheet would allow them to directly observe the conditions inside the abdomen at the patient’s bedside over the next few days, without having to remove sutures and reopen it.

This left the perfect opening for the next step: a planned second debridement (Planned Re-laparotomy).

In other words,

Jiang He hadn’t just figured out how to save the patient’s life,

he had even thought ahead to the patient’s follow-up treatment plan.

And remember, he had thought all of this through during a life-or-death, high-pressure operation.

Without his wealth of hard-won experience, none of this would have been possible.

A doctor’s experience... it really is that important.

The last stitch was completed.

Jiang He cut the suture thread and placed the needle holder back on the tray.

”Surgery’s over.”

Chen Jing glanced at the time.

From the first incision, just over three hours had passed.

’Holy shit, didn’t a major screw-up just happen? How was he still so fast?’

In those three hours, they had witnessed a disaster, followed by a textbook-perfect, god-like save...

But today, even after the surgery ended, the room remained completely silent.

Lin Peidong was overcome with complex emotions.

Jiang He not only saved the patient today, but also saved his nephew...

As for Meng Shiyu, from trying to keep up with Jiang He’s pace without making a mistake, his hands were still shaking.

Chen Jing wanted to go check on Xu Chen, but in the end sighed and gave up on the idea.

Xu Chen was slumped on the floor, his face streaked with tears, a complete and utter mess.

Seeing Jiang He walk over, his lips trembled. ”Jiang He... I’m sorry... I...”

Jiang He stopped and coldly interrupted:

”Shut up. Change your clothes, wash your face, then get your ass over here and find me!”
