I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 301: Chapter 204: Medical Titan (2)

Jiang He had once mentioned to Shen Yu that adults should know not to jinx themselves.

So Shen Yu changed her username from Little Mihu to Little Clever.

’Uhh... It doesn’t seem to have made her any smarter, though.’

...

「Meanwhile.」

In a library at North Normal University in the Capital City.

Several books were spread out in front of Shen Yu.

Besides books on psychology, there were also many on medicine.

For a gifted student like Shen Yu, acing her usual classes didn’t take much of her energy.

She now spent most of her free time researching things that concerned Jiang He.

She hoped to figure out how to cure Jiang He’s psychological condition.

And how to help him promote his technology in the future.

’I want to understand your world. I want to fight by your side, to support you always, in matters of the heart and in your life’s work.’

However, it was getting late. Time to head back to the dorm.

Shen Yu put her phone back in her pocket.

In fact, for the better part of the last month, she had been having frequent dreams.

Her dreams were a flickering mix of good and bad.

There was one consistent pattern: if Jiang He called her during the evening, she would have a good dream.

And the good dreams were truly wonderful.

She would dream that she and Jiang He were living in a small house. She’d be cooking on an induction stove in their tiny kitchen, and he would wrap his arms around her from behind, nuzzling against her playfully.

Of course, the good dreams... would occasionally include some... intimate moments.

But if a day went by when Jiang He didn’t contact her...

...she would have a nightmare.

The nightmares were of a cold, sterile hospital room, the BEEPING of a heart monitor, and Jiang He’s aged face.

Whether it was a good dream or a nightmare, everything felt incredibly real.

So real...

...it felt as if she had already been loved this deeply by Jiang He once before, as if they had already lived a long lifetime together.

As a psychology major,

she had, of course, tried to explain it all away with concepts like the subconscious and separation anxiety.

But she found it hard to convince herself. ’Is this what they mean when they say a doctor can’t heal themself?’

Because she could feel this love, which stemmed from the depths of her dreams,

Shen Yu made a decision in her waking life.

’I have to be even better to Jiang He. Many times better than I am now.’

And so, on her way back to the dorm, she called Xu Juan.

”Juanzi, how’d it go? Did you find anything out? What did Chen Hao say?”

”Don’t worry, it’s all under control,” Xu Juan said. ”But... are you sure you want to propose? You’re not going to wait for him to ask first?”

”I’m not waiting. Dr. Jiang is so tired every day, between the hospital and the lab, and he has so much on his mind. It’s better if I handle this part.”

”Aren’t you afraid he’ll say no?”

Shen Yu froze. ”Huh? He can say no?”

”What if he does?”

”Hmm...”

Shen Yu frowned, thinking for a good while. ”If he says no... then I’ll just propose again. If he says no a second time, then I’ll beg him. And if he still doesn’t agree after I beg him, I’ll just wait a while and try again.”

Xu Juan was at a loss for words.

’This silly girl is just throwing herself at him.’

”Oh, right! The venue you helped me contact—what did the owner say?”

”The owner said it’s no problem. We can have the second-floor terrace to ourselves that afternoon, but we’ll have to decorate it.”

”No problem! Let’s go pick out a ring together this weekend?”

Xu Juan sighed. ”Alright.”

Shen Yu couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.

She looked up at the night sky, her heart filled with immense anticipation.

’Dr. Jiang, you have to come soon. I can’t, can’t wait... to propose to you.’

...

[Jiang He]: Don’t stay up too late reading. Head back and get some rest. It’s gotten colder up north, hasn’t it? Make sure you bundle up.

After sending the message, he put his phone away.

From the lab, the faint sound of Lin Yue’s ”Totally, totally” drifted out again.

Jiang He sighed in exasperation.

’Damn it.’

’I really miss Teacher Shen.’

Just then, a voice called out from the distance, ”Old Jiang! Brother Hao! You guys are all out here?”

Li Zijian walked over, carrying a styrofoam cooler.

Chen Hao asked curiously, ”What’s that you’ve got there?”

”Heh heh.”

Li Zijian placed the styrofoam box on the windowsill in the stairwell and lifted the lid, revealing more than a dozen sealed bubble teas.

Yi Xiangwan’s eyes lit up. ”Where’d these come from?”

Li Zijian said, ”Our sister-in-law bought them!”

”Sister-in-law?”

”Yep, Old Jiang’s wife! Our sister-in-law!”

Li Zijian explained as he started handing out the bubble teas:

”Sister-in-law knew everyone was working hard and pulling all-nighters with Old Jiang in the lab, so she specially wired me some money and asked me to go buy these.”

”Sister-in-law is super thoughtful. These ones are hot, for the ladies and Professor Wang; these are iced, for us guys. And Old Jiang, yours is room temperature. Sister-in-law specifically said you shouldn’t drink anything too cold.”

Jiang He was over the moon.

Just moments ago, he’d been complaining about being subjected to everyone else’s public displays of affection.

And now, his very own dose of affection had been precision-delivered straight to his lips from two thousand kilometers away...

’Heh heh, this feels great.’

Chen Hao sighed wistfully. ”She’s so considerate. Old Jiang, you’re a really lucky guy.”

Yi Xiangwan took a big gulp, moved nearly to tears. ”This isn’t just bubble tea, this is a token of affection from our goddess of a sister-in-law! Long live our sister-in-law!”

Cai Zhuoqun took his bubble tea, a little curious.

He had never met Shen Yu, so he asked the group, ”So what’s our sister-in-law like?”

Cheng Xiyao couldn’t wait to jump in and answer:

”Our sister-in-law is a wonderful, wonderful person!”

”She has the best personality, she’s soft-spoken, and she’s incredibly beautiful—you know, that fresh, clean kind of beauty that just makes you feel comfortable. Plus, she’s super gentle and completely down-to-earth.”

”Honestly, if I were a guy, I’d totally go after her!”

”She’s that amazing?” Cai Zhuoqun said in awe.

”For real!” Chen Hao chimed in, nodding frantically. ”Our sister-in-law is an absolute gem. For Old Jiang to end up with her, he must have saved the world in a past life.”

Jiang He chuckled to himself off to the side.

’Hearing other people praise his wife felt even better than being praised himself.’

’Music to my ears. I could listen to this all day. Please, say more.’

Just as everyone was chattering excitedly about their ”sister-in-law”...

...Wang Xiaoqing casually interjected a question:

”She certainly sounds like a wonderful girl. What’s her name? How old is she? And where does she go to school?”

Cheng Xiyao answered, ”She’s studying up north, at North Normal University. I think she’s a year below us.”

”What’s her name?”

”Shen Yu.”

”Shen Yu...”

Wang Xiaoqing’s brow furrowed slightly.

For some reason, she felt the name sounded familiar.

As if she had recently heard it, or seen a similar-sounding name, frequently.

’Where was it?’

’In a research paper? Or at an academic conference?’

Wang Xiaoqing pondered for a long moment before it suddenly hit her.

She looked at Cheng Xiyao and asked, ”Which ’Yu’ is that?”

Cheng Xiyao explained, ”It’s the character ’Yu’ that’s made from the symbols for ’metal’ and ’jade’.”

Wang Xiaoqing gasped. ”You mean... the ’Yu’ from Elder Zhi?”

”...”

Cheng Xiyao: ”?”

The others were also stunned into silence.

Before Professor Wang had mentioned it, not a single one of them had ever connected the two.

Zhiyu.

The god-tier presence on the Dingxiang Garden forums.

He had single-handedly predicted the failure of the strict glycemic control protocol in the ICU, issued treatment guidelines for H1N1, and chatted casually in QQ groups filled with the heads of Grade-A Tertiary hospitals and national academicians.

This was a mysterious master whom countless medical titans revered.

And Jiang He’s girlfriend was named Shen Yu.

Zhi. Yu.

’”Zhi,” as in ”to hold fast”... and ”Yu,” for her?’

Huh? Holy shit!

Everyone’s head snapped toward Jiang He.

If this theory was true...

If the unfathomable Elder Zhi from Dingxiang Garden was really just a username Jiang He made up to flaunt his relationship...

...then was there any justice left in the world?!

”What are you all looking at me for?”

Jiang He looked at them calmly. ”Drink up. We’ve got work to do.”

Wang Xiaoqing sized Jiang He up and down but could find no crack in his calm demeanor.

She shook her head.

’Then again...’

’What on earth was I thinking?’

’What kind of figure was Elder Zhi? He was a medical titan on par with national academicians!’

’No matter how much of a genius Jiang He was for his age, he couldn’t possibly be a medical titan. Who would dare to make that kind of assumption?’

”Ah, well, I guess it’s just a big coincidence,” Wang Xiaoqing said.

”Yeah, totally. What a coincidence. You scared me for a second,” Cheng Xiyao said, breathing a sigh of relief and patting her chest.

For a moment there, her entire belief system had nearly shattered.

’If Elder Zhi really was Jiang He... then all that time I spent fanatically praising Elder Zhi right in front of him... wouldn’t I be totally screwed? The humiliation would be unbearable!’

’Thank goodness, thank goodness... What a relief...’

Xiaocheng’s faith was reaffirmed. With an expression of pure adoration, she mused, ”But this just proves our sister-in-law has a great name! It’s fated to be connected with Elder Zhi! I wonder what kind of grandmaster he really is. I’d give anything to meet him in person someday. Elder Zhi is just so incredible...”

Jiang He really couldn’t listen to this anymore.

Listening to his classmate call him ”Elder” every day felt like it was shaving years off his life.

”Alright, back to work.”

”We have to get the repeat validation data run tonight. I appreciate all the hard work.”
