Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 1075: Chapter 377: Five-Headed Monster Face Maitreya, Five Viscera and Five Elements Exorcism Method, Great Xia’s Eastern Advance Begins (Part 2)

He was indeed quite confident in his own strength, but not to the point of arrogance, thinking he could take on five opponents alone. Moreover, he had no reason to do so.

What truly prompted him to act was the move behind the Dajue Temple.

He saw that with a command from Yan Xin, all the soldiers of Dajue Temple took out a green pill and swallowed it, then began to chant a scripture called the Rebirth Mantra.

Seeing this scene, Xia Hong’s heart was already filled with murmurs of doubt.

Bashang City had already been breached, and there wasn’t much resistance inside.

Even if they wanted to annihilate everything, they should have brought out the Fire Melting Pills, to give the soldiers the ability to fight during the day, not this green pill.

What happened next was completely beyond Xia Hong’s expectations.

After the chanting ended, everyone from Dajue Temple suddenly had green spiritual light flying out of their pupils, as if something was being stripped away from within them. Once the spiritual light was extracted completely, everyone dropped dead on the spot.

It wasn’t just these people in Bashang City; there was also a continuous flow of green spiritual light gathering towards Bashang City from all directions in the north.

Seeing this bizarre scene, Xia Hong immediately realized what was happening.

This kind of large-scale human life harvesting, he’d witnessed personally once before in Mirror Valley, so he wasn’t unfamiliar with it.

Over the past six months, during the attack on the two towns, Dajue Temple repeatedly demonstrated the power of taking pills and chanting scriptures. Not to mention those they controlled, even people from the other Seven Towns were deeply influenced. Under such circumstances, who would suspect that the green pills were actually deadly?

So unexpected to anyone, the green spiritual light coming from the north is the result of all people from more than sixty village-level camps controlled by Dajue Temple taking the green pills simultaneously and chanting the Rebirth Mantra, in sync with the army in Bashang City.

That’s over a million people!

At the time, the terror in Xia Hong’s heart was indescribable. The mass suicide Mirror Immortal conducted in the first year of Great Xia was just over ten thousand people; this time, it was more than a hundredfold increase.

Alongside the horror, Xia Hong also realized that the Five Great Masters of Dajue Temple had used a diversionary tactic, drawing all the Xianyang Level of the Eight Towns to Qinghepu. They came to Bashang City themselves, sacrificing all the population they had accumulated over the past eight years, undoubtedly to do something earth-shattering.

As the cold sun fully appeared in the sky and the dawn of the Ice Abyss broke, the vast green spiritual light gradually gathered. Xia Hong witnessed with his own eyes a beam of green light suddenly shooting down from the cold sun above, leaving a green Spiritual Body in Bashang City.

The initial appearance of the green Spiritual Body was only the size of a fist, unclear in form, but as it absorbed the vast green spiritual light, it began to grow larger and larger, eventually becoming the three-hundred-foot tall Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya.

The Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya wasn’t a name given by Xia Hong; it was shouted in unison by the Five Great Masters when it first formed.

Xia Hong remembers it clearly; the five were extremely fervent at the time, chanting: ”Welcome, Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya Buddha Venerable, to the Ice Abyss.”

Buddha Venerable was evidently an honorific title; Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya was the true identity of this Spiritual Body.

From years ago, the moment he heard the news about Dajue Temple, Xia Hong was almost certain that Buddhism existed during the Ancient Abyss Era. But looking at the series of actions by Dajue Temple afterward, even Buddhist disciples have undergone extremely odd transformations just like all other deceitful monsters originating from the Ancient Abyss Era. They no longer have any relation to the Buddhism he understood from his past life, which guided people towards kindness.

Just the descent of one Spiritual Body required the sacrifice of over a million lives. How could this Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya possibly be a benevolent entity?

Moreover, it wasn’t just over a million.

Dajue Temple began the sacrifice only after entering Bashang City, which means the 1.5 million people within Bashang City were also their target.

The subsequent developments were just as Xia Hong expected; as the Mysterious-faced Maitreya’s Spiritual Body grew to three hundred feet, it seemed to gain some form of consciousness and began inhaling towards the city. Each inhalation could extract tens of thousands of green spiritual lights from the city.

The green spiritual lights were indeed the soul bodies!

The moment Xia Hong saw the spiritual light, he had already guessed, and he was almost certain that Xu Ning had turned out that way because part of his soul body was extracted by Master Wusheng during the probing of the Great Awakening Hall half a year ago.

So the Mysterious-faced Maitreya’s actions were basically sucking the soul bodies of over a million people in Bashang City. By now, Xia Hong had roughly figured out the entire plan of Dajue Temple and why they were determined to break Bashang City.

A six-year-old child was probably the prerequisite for reviving the Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya. Presumably, the Five Great Masters had initially satisfied this condition with the scavenging at Qinghepu over the past seven years.

But the emergence of the Nine Towns’ spies last September made the Five Great Masters aware of the crisis; they realized they had been discovered by the Nine Towns, and so the revival of the Mysterious-faced Maitreya had to be hastened, leading to the active attacks on the two towns in the last six months.

The revival probably reached a critical moment, only missing a large number of soul bodies.

The entire population of more than sixty village-level camps was still insufficient to fully revive the Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya, so they deliberately slowed down the attack pace, allowing the entire population within Bashang’s borders to gather into the city. They arranged the more than sixty village-level camps with the green pills in advance, and then executed all in one go once they breached Bashang City.

So at this moment, only the last step remained to fully revive the Five-headed Mysterious-faced Maitreya.
