Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 192: Chapter 184: Pledging Oneself

Hu Feng glanced at the bottle on the table. It was no bigger than a little finger. Bai Zhi had used a needle and a thin tube to draw out all the clear liquid inside, injecting every last drop into Meng Nan.

She’d said before that this would stop the pain.

He watched as Bai Zhi packed her things one by one into her cloth bag. He had so many questions pent up inside, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask them in front of Meng Nan.

After packing her things and tying the drawstring of her bag shut, Bai Zhi walked over to the desk, sat down, and wrote out two prescriptions for Meng Nan.

If Meng Nan’s injury were treated by Western medicine, he would recover seventy percent of its function at best. With traditional Chinese medicine, it would be fifty percent.

But by combining the two, drawing on the strengths of both Western and Chinese medicine, he could recover at least ninety percent. With any luck, he might even make a complete recovery, as if it had never happened.

How fortunate that she had not only studied Chinese medicine but was also an expert in Western medicine. It was a blessing for her, and for Meng Nan as well.

She opened the door, called the Jin guard in, and handed him the two prescriptions. ”There are two prescriptions here. One is for external use, to be applied twice a day—once in the morning and once in the evening. The other is to be taken internally, three times a day before meals.”

The Jin guard took the prescriptions. Seeing they were clearly labeled for internal and external use, he understood and smiled. ”I’ll remember.” ℯℯ𝑙.

Bai Zhi glanced back at Meng Nan and added, ”I’ll be back for a follow-up in three days. In the meantime, he can’t put any strain on his left hand. He must take good care of it and not get careless. If it breaks a second time, even I won’t be able to fix it.”

The Jin guard said, ”I understand. For the next three days, I guarantee I’ll watch him day and night. I won’t even let him pull his own pants down to use the latrine.”

Bai Zhi, who had been wearing a serious expression, suddenly couldn’t hold it in. Her mind conjured an image of the Jin guard helping Meng Nan pull down his pants and wipe his rear. ’What a lovely picture. It’s so beautiful it’s burning my eyes.’

Meng Nan’s face flushed red as he yelled at the Jin guard, ”Nobody’s going to think you’re a mute if you don’t talk!”

The Jin guard rolled his eyes and said, ”If I don’t talk, you’ll all think I’m a mute, and I have no intention of being a mute.”

As she was leaving the government office, Bai Zhi said to Meng Nan, ”Remember what I told you before. Uphold your promise to me. Don’t disappoint me.”

Meng Nan knew she was serious. He could see in her eyes that she wasn’t just saying it casually.

He nodded. ”Don’t worry. I will absolutely do what I promised you.”

Bai Zhi left with her cloth bag in hand, and Hu Feng followed right behind her.

The Jin guard leaned in toward Meng Nan’s bed and asked with a grin, ”Young Master, what did you promise her? It wasn’t to pledge yourself to her in marriage, was it?”

Meng Nan sighed. ”I’d be willing, but she’d have to accept.” ’This girl is just too unusual. The more I look at her, the less she seems like an ordinary girl from the mountains. And that bag of hers with all those strange tools—where did she even get them?’

The Jin guard’s jaw dropped in shock. ”Young Master, are you feeling alright? With your talent, looks, and status, if you offered yourself in marriage, what kind of girl would be blind enough to refuse?”

Meng Nan glanced at the centipede stitched onto his wrist and knew with certainty that Bai Zhi was not like the other noble young ladies he had met. She wouldn’t be the type to throw herself at him over his looks and status.

He shook his head. ’I’m Meng Nan. Of course I wouldn’t develop feelings for some slip of a girl. Absolutely not.’

Absolutely not!

Seeing his young master’s mood suddenly plummet, the Jin guard didn’t dare continue the topic. ”Young Master, a report just came from the front office. Many refugees fleeing disaster in the south have poured into the city. The price of rice and flour is skyrocketing, and the common folk are crying endlessly of their suffering.”
