Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 190: Chapter 182: It Hurts, Be Gentle

”What’s this?” he asked, his eyes immediately drawn to the small, transparent bottle. It looked like a glazed bottle, but it was more transparent and delicate than any glaze. There were patterns on it—no, they looked more like words.

”It’s an anesthetic. I’ll apply it to your wound in a bit so it won’t hurt when I stitch it up.” She put down the procaine and took out the reagents and syringe for a skin test.

”And what’s this?” Meng Nan asked, curiously watching the syringe in her hand, which was as slender as a thin bamboo shoot. At its tip was a sharp, silver-colored needle. What was strange was that she could actually use that fine needle to draw liquid from the bottle...

”What are you doing? What are you doing?!” Meng Nan snatched his hand back in alarm. Bai Zhi was actually raising the syringe to jab the back of his hand.

”I’m doing a skin test to see if you’re allergic to procaine. If you are, I’ll have to use a different medicine.”

She said it so casually, but Meng Nan’s heart was pounding. This needle that could draw liquid was much thicker than the silver needles he had seen before. ’A poke from that is definitely going to hurt,’ he thought.

Seeing Meng Nan’s reluctance to extend his hand, Bai Zhi frowned and said, ”You’re a grown man, why are you acting like a child? It’s just one little prick. Think of it as a mosquito bite. What’s the big deal?”

Meng Nan couldn’t stand seeing Bai Zhi frown at him, so he quickly stuck out his hand. ”Who said I was scared? I was just joking with you.”

Bai Zhi said nothing, simply grabbing the back of his hand and swiftly inserting the needle, injecting a small amount of procaine under the skin.

”There.” She pulled the needle out and told him to lie still.

Meng Nan cried out in his heart. ’It hurt a lot! How could she compare that to a mosquito bite? Just how huge would that mosquito have to be?’

Hu Feng craned his neck to get a better look at what Bai Zhi was doing. He watched her take one strange new gadget after another from her cloth bag, all of them things he had never seen before.

Looking at Meng Nan’s expression, it was clear he hadn’t seen them before either. As a simple man from the mountains, it wasn’t surprising that Hu Feng himself was unfamiliar with certain things. But Meng Nan wasn’t a mountain man. If even he had never seen these things, it proved they were truly rare.

’That girl, Bai Zhi... she’s been in her cabin ever since she got back yesterday and hasn’t come out. Where did she get all this stuff?’

After waiting for the appropriate amount of time, she confirmed that Meng Nan’s skin test was negative. ’Good,’ she thought. ’This saves a lot of trouble.’

Bai Zhi sat down by the bed and unwrapped the bandage on Meng Nan’s left hand. The wound was still a gruesome sight. Because it hadn’t been properly disinfected, the edges were already starting to get inflamed and infected.

Seeing Bai Zhi frown again, Meng Nan quickly asked, ”What is it? Has the wound gotten worse?”

Bai Zhi shook her head. ”No, don’t let your imagination run wild. It’s actually much better than I expected. I need to clean the dead flesh from your wound now. It’s going to hurt a little, so you’ll have to bear with it.”

’Hurt a little?’

’Just now, she said it would hurt like a mosquito bite, but it ended up feeling like a thick needle stab. Now she’s saying it’ll hurt ’a little’... That definitely means it’s going to hurt more than ’a little’.’

”If you’re scared, then don’t look.” She grabbed a pillow and tossed it onto his face, covering his eyes.

Meng Nan’s face flushed slightly as he yanked the pillow away. ”Who said I was scared? I’m not scared! I’m a real man, a true ma—AHH! IT HURTS! GENTLER! BE GENTLER!”

How could it not hurt? She had already started disinfecting the wound. She’d experienced this kind of pain herself—it was like rubbing salt and chili peppers into an open wound.

But the pain wasn’t unbearable. If it had been Hu Feng, he definitely wouldn’t be screaming like this. The other day, when Hu Feng had shielded her with his own body from a falling brick, he hadn’t even made a sound.
