Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 191: Chapter 183: Suture

Setting down the disinfectant spray, she turned to look where Hu Feng was sitting, but a tall, wall-like figure blocked her view. He had somehow slipped in behind her.

Hu Feng had been holding back for a while. Now that she had turned around, he quickly pointed to the spray she had just set down and asked, ”What is that?”

It was a small white bottle with a round nozzle on top. Whenever she pressed it, a cloud of mist would spray out. This mist had a strange smell, and every time she sprayed it on Meng Nan’s wound, he would cry out in pain.

Bai Zhi immediately turned away. ”It’s a disinfectant for cleaning wounds.”

”Where did you get it?” he asked again.

”It’s mine.”

”I’m asking you where you got it.”

She injected an anesthetic into the area around Meng Nan’s wound with practiced skill. To Meng Nan and Hu Feng, the sight was unbelievable—that a white liquid could be injected into a person’s body through a thick needle, just like that.

Meng Nan was extremely nervous. He finally understood the first part of what she had said earlier—why she had told him to keep the day’s treatment a secret.

’This is unbelievable!’

Bai Zhi never once glanced at Hu Feng, yet she still answered his question. ”You don’t need to concern yourself with where this came from. You have the right to ask, and I have the right not to answer. Hu Feng, Meng Nan, you only need to remember one thing: I, Bai Zhi, am not a bad person, and I have no intention of harming you. My tools may seem strange, but they are potent medicines that can save lives.”

She took more items out of her cloth bag: a suture needle, thread, tweezers, scissors...

After wiping the instruments with a disinfectant wipe, she arranged them neatly on another fresh wipe on the bedside table, placing them within easy reach.

’There were no nurses here to assist her. She had to do everything herself.’

Meng Nan stared at the hook-shaped suture needle, his voice trembling with fear. ”Wh-what’s that?”

Bai Zhi said nothing. He watched as she threaded a black cord through the needle. He glanced down at his own wound, and a shiver went through him. ”You’re not planning on doing embroidery on me, are you?”

Bai Zhi shot him an exasperated look. ”I don’t know how to embroider. Your tendon is severed. It has to be stitched back together. If I don’t use a needle and thread, what else am I supposed to use?”

Seeing his face go pale, she added with a smile, ”Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.”

”Not hurt? With a needle this thick and thread this coarse? How could it possibly not hurt?” Even as he spoke, Bai Zhi inserted the needle. He felt the sharp point pierce his skin and could even feel the long thread pulling through his flesh. But strangely, he felt no pain at all. That part of his arm felt like a piece of dead meat...

Hu Feng raised an eyebrow. He was surprised Meng Nan managed to hold back a scream. The man had been crying out nonstop just moments ago. ’This suturing looks excruciatingly painful, yet he isn’t making a sound?’

Bai Zhi’s movements were remarkably fluid. Anyone could see this was far from her first time doing something like this; she moved with an ease that suggested she had done it a thousand times before.

The suturing was over quickly. After stitching the tendon, she rapidly closed the surface wound. It seemed as simple as sewing a torn sack shut.

Bai Zhi snipped the thread and stood up to pack her things.

Hu Feng turned to Meng Nan, who still hadn’t made a peep. ”It didn’t hurt?”

Meng Nan shook his head. ”It didn’t hurt. I don’t know how, but even though I could feel the thread pulling through my flesh, there was no pain at all.”
