Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 156: Chapter 148: Purple Silk Vine Leaves

Hu Changlin quickly waved his hands. ”You can’t do that. I heard someone died from eating poisoned potatoes a while back. Most people won’t eat them anymore. What will you do if you plant them and can’t sell them?”

Bai Zhi said, ”People get sick from potatoes because they eat ones that have sprouted or turned green. It’s impossible to get poisoned if you only eat them fresh.”

Zhao Lan added, ”But regardless, someone did die because of potatoes. It’s a fact that nobody wants to eat them now. A couple of years ago, some people in our village grew them, but now, almost no one does. You can’t sell them even if you plant them. You can’t just let them rot in the fields, can you?”

Bai Zhi chuckled. ”It’s better if no one else is growing them. That way, my selling price can be a little higher. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. When the time comes, I guarantee these potatoes will be in such high demand, why would I have to worry about selling them?”

”But this isn’t the right season for planting potatoes. In another two months, it’ll get cold. Potatoes don’t produce tubers in cold weather. You need to think this through.”

Bai Zhi said, ”Mother, I’ve already thought it all through. In a couple of days, I’ll go back into the mountains to get some herbs that will make the soil more fertile. I’m sure I can get the potatoes to produce before it gets cold.”

Hu Changlin looked amazed. ”There are herbs that can do that?”

Bai Zhi smiled proudly. ”Of course. As long as I find this herb, something that normally takes sixty days to mature can be ready in thirty. And it’s non-toxic with no side effects—it’s perfect.” ’Back in the 23rd century, I researched something called Purple Silk Vine Leaves. The leaves contain a high concentration of a natural growth stimulant, which is completely different from the synthetic kind. It’s totally organic and poses no risk to the human body.’

’The day I went into the mountains with Hu Feng, I saw some Purple Silk Vine Leaves in the forest. I didn’t get a close look back then, but my gut told me that’s what it was. Purple Silk Vine loves to climb up the trunks of huge trees. A single plant can spread to all the surrounding trees. It’s incredibly resilient and propagates quickly, capable of covering all the nearby trunks with its vines in a very short time.’

’So, all I need to do is find a single plant, and that will be enough.’

Seeing her insistence and her utterly confident expression, Zhao Lan stopped objecting. She smiled, ”Alright, alright. If it’s what you want to do, then go do it. Mother supports you.”

Hu Changlin also smiled. ”Zhi is a clever girl. If she’s thought it through, she’ll definitely succeed. Don’t you worry.”

Hu Feng put down his chopsticks and turned to Bai Zhi. ”No matter what you’re doing, no matter how busy you get, don’t forget what you promised me.” With that, he stood up and went back to his room.

Zhao Lan and Hu Changlin looked baffled. ”Zhi, what did Hu Feng mean by that? What did you promise him?”

Seeing that she couldn’t hide it any longer, she had to come clean. ”Well, I once found a medical book that described a way to treat Hu Feng’s amnesia. I told him about it and promised I would help cure him. He sees me busy with one thing after another all day and worries I’ll forget, so he feels the need to remind me every now and then. But I haven’t forgotten, I have it all under control!”

Hu Changlin’s face lit up with joy. He asked in astonishment, ”You can really cure Hu Feng’s amnesia?”

Bai Zhi nodded. ”Of course. I wouldn’t lie to you. It’s just that his condition was caused by a severe head injury, which led to blood clots accumulating in his brain over a long time. It’s impossible to clear them all out overnight. It requires long-term treatment to dissolve them little by little. This is the only way to cure him without damaging his brain or causing other complications. It’s the safest method.”
