Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 185: Chapter 177: Assassination

Lin Yang’s expression changed slightly, and he hurried out after the young doctor.

The fierce wind outside didn’t let up. It didn’t bring a downpour, but it did blow away the dark clouds obscuring the bright moon.

Cool moonlight poured in through the window. On the hospital bed, Bai Zhi’s eyes suddenly flew open. Her chest heaved rapidly as she struggled to understand what was happening.

’What exactly is going on?’

She was certain she had returned. But why had she been unable to control her own body just moments ago, yet now she could?

She sat up and looked at the medical kit on the nightstand. It was Lin Yang’s first-aid kit. She had one just like it; every surgeon was issued one.

She snatched the first-aid kit from the nightstand and quickly flipped open the lid. Inside was a complete set of scalpels, various types of sutures, and it was crammed full of all sorts of emergency medications.

Her face lit up. With this, she could treat Meng Nan’s injuries.

’But how am I supposed to get back? And how can I take this kit with me?’

She was about to get out of bed when another fierce gust of wind raged outside. The half-drawn curtains billowed. A dark cloud drifted toward the moon, once again concealing its light. As the heavy rain began to fall, she collapsed back onto the bed. The first-aid kit she clutched in her hand also gradually vanished as the downpour started.

A clap of thunder startled Bai Zhi awake. She sat bolt upright, gasping for breath. Outside, the bright moon was hidden by dark clouds, and heavy raindrops pelted the roof. The scent of disinfectant in her nose was gone, replaced by the distinct woody fragrance of the timber house.

She glanced at the other side of the bed. Her mother, Zhao Lan, was sleeping soundly, undisturbed by the thunder.

Her mouth was dry. The dream had been too real—so real that even now, she couldn’t tell if it had been a dream at all.

Just as she was about to get out of bed for a drink of water, her hand brushed against something that shouldn’t have been there.

She stared in disbelief at the first-aid kit clutched tightly in her hand. It was the kit from the hospital bedside, Lin Yang’s kit.

Lin Yang’s name was written on the side of the case.

’What in the world is going on?’

She had just gone back. It wasn’t a dream. She had really gone back, and she had brought a first-aid kit with her—something that didn’t belong in this world.

Zhao Lan turned over in her sleep. Bai Zhi quickly hid the kit under the bed. If Zhao Lan woke up and saw it, she would have no idea how to explain it.

’Why did I suddenly go back, and why did I suddenly return?’

’What is happening?’

’And what did those two young nurses mean?’

Her brain death wasn’t the result of an accident caused by a malfunctioning sleep pod; someone had deliberately cut her oxygen tube. ℯ

’Does that mean someone tried to murder me?’

’Who could it be? Why would they want to harm me? In the 23rd century, I didn’t have any family or friends, but I didn’t have any enemies, either.’

Outside, thunder rumbled and the rain poured down in sheets. She had no desire to sleep anymore. She just sat on the edge of the bed, staring into space all night. She racked her brain but couldn’t make sense of anything.

But at least she had the first-aid kit. Tomorrow, she could treat Meng Nan’s injuries. The problem was, the shiny silver case was far too conspicuous. If anyone saw it and asked about it, she wouldn’t know what to say. The contents were things that absolutely did not exist in this world, so she couldn’t let anyone see them. She had to find something to cover it with to make it less noticeable and avoid attracting attention.
