Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 1308: Chapter 1309: Giving Up on Oneself

Lu Xiaobu arrived at Sword Island, but he didn’t disturb them. Instead, he put on a crew uniform and quietly observed from the side.

”Young Master Bu.” Director Nie Ping came over to greet him.

”How’s it going?” Lu Xiaobu asked.

”Uh... how to say this.” Nie Ping forced a bitter smile: ”I’m hesitant to judge, as I’ve never directed this type of reality show before.”

”Most reality shows involve tasks, conflicts, competition. Even if staged, it’s what the current audience wants to see.”

”But, a pastoral-themed reality show like this... really can’t be predicted.”

Nie Ping truly felt a bit helpless.

He’s considered among the top directors in the reality show genre.

Yet, he found himself powerless before this reality show personally planned by Young Master Bu.

Changing the script, adding settings, goes against Young Master Bu’s wishes.

But if no changes are made, just a mundane reality show? Eating, singing, chatting, then sleeping?

Is there anyone who would watch that?!

A giant question mark, even turning into an exclamation mark, floated in his mind.

He felt that this reality show might ruin his reputation late in his career.

Of course, he didn’t dare say any of this out loud.

”I’m not asking about that, I mean the music.” Lu Xiaobu waved his hand: ”Ratings don’t matter, after all, this show was originally planned for listening to music. You’ve got to have some justification for booking a schedule.”

Upon hearing this, the director’s face turned green.

If it weren’t Lu Xiaobu standing there, he’d probably have cursed!

No way! I thought you were the miraculous creator, surely you had some extraordinary tricks up your sleeve!

Even these past six months, I would meticulously study this show whenever I had free time.

And the result!

You tell me this program was made just for listening to music?!

Then why did you hire me?! Couldn’t you just find any director?

Young Master Bu, I have no grievances with you, you shouldn’t be so deceptive!

”Over there!” Nie Ping, suppressing a bellyful of frustration, pointed to the location of the music, then turned and walked out!

He wanted some peace!

”What’s up with him?” Lu Xiaobu glanced at the clearly irritated Nie Ping, rolling his eyes and asking with bewilderment.

”Cough, cough... it’s just...”

The surrounding producers and others chuckled bitterly but remained silent.

They understood, but couldn’t speak out!

Whatever, just going through the motions like a monk banging a bell for the day, no reputation or anything to worry about, just earning a living!

However, Director Nie Ping was having a hard time!

They remembered how Nie Ping, before filming began, went through great lengths to secure the director’s position...

He boasted with great ambition: ”This time, we’ll use Young Master Bu’s miraculous journey to create the strongest reality show! Then, I’ll retire! Hahaha!”

Listen to that, it shows how much confidence he had in Lu Xiaobu!

But it turned out like this, Director Nie Ping seemed to have become an insignificant pawn.

Even though they knew from the start it was their wishful thinking, Lu Xiaobu never said he wanted to create a proper reality show, it was the directors’ wishful thinking.

So truly, it couldn’t be blamed on Lu Xiaobu.

But humans aren’t saints, how can they be so rational?

This led to them feeling a bit uncomfortable!

”Nice! Nice!” Lu Xiaobu ignored them, wearing headphones, eyes closed, leisurely listening to music.

Ah, I wish you could hear this music, it’s truly beautiful!

Really, you can hear mountains, hear water, hear birds, hear fish swimming in this music.

Moreover, it’s a kind of buoyant relaxation that’s extremely comfortable!

Using an inappropriate yet very apt phrase to describe it—exquisite clarity!

...

Nie Ping left the room to the water’s edge and lit a cigarette, puffing deeply.

As if the cigarette were Lu Xiaobu.

”Director Nie, calm down.” The assistant director chuckled and came over to Nie Ping’s side with a helpless smile.

”I’m not angry; it was my sentimental foolishness.”

Nie Ping claimed he wasn’t angry on the outside, but inside he was quietly seething with indignation!

How many connections did he pursue for this program? How many potentially hit shows did he turn down?

And finally, this was the outcome!

Who wouldn’t be angry?! Anyone in my place would be furious!

”How about the trailer, what should we do?” The assistant director chuckled: ”Though I know it’s ill-timed, we still have work to do. Originally scheduled to edit today’s trailer!”

”Handle it however you want, doesn’t matter, it’s just this little bit, how can editing make it bloom?” Nie Ping, a bit self-destructive, gave up!

”This...” The assistant director was somewhat helpless.

He and Nie Ping hadn’t been collaborating briefly; Nie Ping had never displayed such emotion!

Do as I see fit?

If he had Nie Ping’s level of skill, he wouldn’t always have been an assistant director!

Clearly, larger hope leads to greater disappointment!

”Just hurry up and do it! Stop bothering me! Oh, go ask that wastrel, see if he has any opinions? Don’t end up offending him, it’s not worth it!” Nie Ping remarked while holding back anger.

”Okay, but Director Nie, remember word may be the origin of disasters!” The assistant director sighed but still offered a reminder.

”I!” Nie Ping wanted to argue, but after considering, he remained silent, stubbed out his cigarette, gripped his hair, staring at the disheveled reflection of himself in the water, without a word!

The assistant director left Nie Ping’s side, approached Lu Xiaobu who was listening to music, and quietly asked: ”Young Master Bu, how do you think the trailer should be edited?”

”Go, go, go, don’t bother me, you’re the directors, decide yourself.” Lu Xiaobu waved his hand impatiently.

He was having a relaxing time listening to music, and you come asking this—it’s just causing trouble!

”Alright!”

The assistant director let out a deep sigh again.

Despite having lost hope, upon hearing this irresponsible response, I still felt a bit disappointed.

Just as Lu Xiaobu said before, he created the show for listening to music.

What about ratings? What about profits?!

What’s it to him?!

Does he need fame? Needs wealth?!

What he wants is enjoyment, is to live carefreely!

The assistant director left the room, growing increasingly annoyed, finally muttering softly: ”Damn it!”

Afterwards, he went to edit the trailer!

Alright, since none of you care, I won’t either, just casually get it done!
