Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 667: Chapter 665: A Special Day [Part 4]

”Damn! Did this kid just turn off his phone? Doesn’t he handle matters?”

Lu Xiaobu listened to the disconnected tone on the phone and rolled his eyes.

He knew this guy must have guessed his intentions, so he turned off his phone in advance!

Since it was turned off, he was too lazy to call again!

There was also the matter of those authors in the ’black room’ that the system mentioned who wrote poorly, which he asked Liang Lan to notify about, just to give an explanation to the system!

Umm, to put it simply, just to muddle through, cough cough!

...

The next day, under the care of Liang Lan and Su Luoxue, Lu Xiaobu lazily went downstairs for breakfast.

”Xiaobu, you’re up.”

Lu Hongbin greeted Lu Xiaobu with a smile, ”Yesterday’s speech was pretty good.”

”Just muddling through.”

Lu Xiaobu yawned and sat down on the chair.

”Then I think you should just muddle through every day, it’s even better than doing things properly.”

Lu Hongbin joked.

”Cut, muddling through is the most tiring, okay.”

Lu Xiaobu rolled his eyes: ”I have to be considerate of this and that! See how comfortable I usually am, doing whatever I want!”

”That’s true. As long as you’re happy.”

Lu Hongbin laughed heartily.

In front of Xiaobu’s happiness, everything else is crap!

”By the way, Big Bro, you dressed like this, what are you up to?”

Lu Xiaobu looked at Lu Hongbin’s clothes curiously.

Although their family didn’t pay much attention to dressing, at least they wore passable clothes.

But today’s outfit of Lu Hongbin was too simple.

Denim jeans plus a T-shirt, together less than a hundred yuan.

”Today is the Lu family’s annual charity day!”

Lu Hongbin rolled his eyes: ”Don’t tell me you forgot about that!”

”Nonsense, how could I possibly forget?” Lu Xiaobu spoke righteously.

”Good.” Lu Hongbin nodded in satisfaction.

”I didn’t even remember that this was a thing!” Lu Xiaobu continued.

”Pfft!”

Lu Hongbin almost spit out the food in his mouth, this Xiaobu!

Lu Xiaobu shrugged.

He truly didn’t remember such a thing.

It wasn’t in the memories of the former Lu Xiaobu, and he hadn’t heard anything about it in the past two years.

”You, you.” Lu Hongbin gave a wry smile: ”But that’s normal, you’ve only participated once in all these years, it’s not surprising you don’t know.”

”Tell me about it.” Lu Xiaobu’s curiosity peaked, waiting to hear the story.

”Alright, I’ll tell you about this tradition, although it’s not really a tradition since it was started by our dad.” Lu Hongbin put down his food and began.

”As you know about your previous body, our dad, acting as both father and mother, had his heart broken over worrying about you, this little troublemaker!” Lu Hongbin sighed.

Lu Xiaobu lowered his head—my fault then! Alright, since Brother said so, just listen!

”Our dad used a lot of folk remedies to treat your illness, of course, all kinds of spiritual remedies, as he couldn’t bear to feed you any random concoctions.” Lu Hongbin patted Lu Xiaobu’s head with a hint of pampering: ”He actually spent quite a bit of incense money back then!”

”Eventually, a high monk who couldn’t stand it anymore advised him, saying instead of praying to Buddha, why not do some good deeds during that time?”

”If the gods really protected people based on incense money, it’s better not to pray at all! Wait and if Buddha indeed blesses your child to be safe and sound, it’s not too late to fulfill your vow.”

Lu Xiaobu was secretly impressed upon hearing this.

This high monk truly is enlightened to be able to speak such words!

”After hearing the advice of this high monk, dad had an awakening and from that day forth, every year dad would dedicate a day solely to do good deeds and accumulate virtues!” Lu Hongbin chuckled.

”What does doing good deeds have to do with you changing this outfit?” Lu Xiaobu couldn’t figure out the connection between the two.

”A favor of rice invites gratitude, a debt of rice spells conflict. You understand now!” Lu Hongbin sighed helplessly.

”Got it!” Lu Xiaobu understood immediately.

It must be because there were issues caused by doing good deeds.

”So later, dad changed his approach—he stopped using money to do good deeds, choosing to do them purely out of goodwill.” Lu Hongbin’s words reflected a sense of helplessness.

Doing good deeds required concealment, while doing bad deeds were openly flaunted!

As the saying goes, a good person needs ten cycles of reincarnation and to overcome eighty-one trials to achieve enlightenment.

But for a bad person, they merely need to lay down the butcher’s knife!

”Let’s not talk about that anymore.” Lu Hongbin gestured with his hand and continued with a smile, ”A couple of years ago, when you got better and we had the means, dad began going to the mountain annually around this time to fulfill his vow.”

”I thought about it and decided that the tradition of doing good deeds must not be lost! So I pulled in your second brother, and we took over dad’s work. It has been this way for the past two years!” Lu Hongbin smiled.

”I’ll go too!” Lu Xiaobu immediately said.

After all, these initiatives were all for him; it would be hard to justify not participating!

”Sure, since you, my boy, have nothing much to do every day.”

Lu Hongbin immediately responded, ”In that case, go and change your clothes. Oh, and maybe have Liang Lan do your makeup to avoid being recognized.”

”No problem!” Lu Xiaobu promptly dashed upstairs.

He knew the concerns of his older brother—being the most prominent figure in the Lu family, being recognized could turn a good deed into a bad one!

...

After getting ready, Lu Xiaobu came downstairs wearing long shorts.

His face had been made over by Liang Lan, now looking darker and somewhat older than before.

If not for those familiar with him, nobody would recognize that this was Lu Xiaobu.

Zhang Meng and others also disguised themselves and prepared to keep a long-distance follow.

After all, sometimes people might not recognize Lu Xiaobu, but they definitely recognize his entourage!

”Let’s go, time to head out!”

Lu Xiaobu stood there, chuckling cheerily.

”Yeah, let’s go.”

Lu Hongbin smiled as he nodded approvingly at Lu Xiaobu, who looked quite the part.

Meanwhile, Lu Wenhuo came over, carrying a big bag.

”What’s in there?”

Lu Xiaobu asked.

”Food and drinks, along with some other stuff.”

Lu Wenhuo didn’t elaborate; these were the accumulations of several years’ experience, a mishmash of things that couldn’t be explained in a short while.

”Oh.”

Lu Xiaobu nodded his head and didn’t inquire further.

The three brothers walked outside, where Lu Wenhuo’s prepped vehicle was already parked at the gate.

Ah, the legendary elegant ride—the Wuling Hongguang!

As for Zhang Meng and the others, there was no need to worry, Zhang Meng would naturally handle everything.

After the brothers settled into the car.

”All set, let’s go!”

Lu Hongbin joyfully exclaimed.

For some reason, seeing this scene continuously reminded him of a memory from their childhood, carrying the frail Xiaobu on his back, with Wenhao holding his hand.

This feeling hadn’t surfaced in a long time.

It was truly heartwarming from within.
