Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 387: Chapter 386: Dare to Be the First in the World【1st Update】

After the four mentors turned around.

The show didn’t start immediately, after all, live recording and playback are different.

Instead, there was a wait of about three minutes.

The stage was briefly adjusted again, the lights dimmed, and then it was about to begin.

Click clack.

Click clack.

The lights dwindled, one by one extinguished.

The voice of Assistant Director Zhang Feng rang out on the scene: ”Prepare the countdown, five, four, three, two, one, rolling, the first contestant on stage!”

However.

Trouble suddenly erupted!

The first contestant actually chickened out and didn’t dare to go up on stage.

The first contestant was that female PE teacher.

The one who sang a bombastic male song as a woman.

Her surname is Wu, and her name is Wu Mei.

Originally, she was quite bold, but at the last moment she got nervous.

”I can’t do it! How about someone else goes first? I’ll go second!”

Wu Mei’s palms were sweating.

After all, she is a PE teacher, so she’s usually quite bold when dealing with the school, daring to belt out a song on the big sports field.

During the auditions, because there were not many people, she also performed well, seemed quite composed.

But now?

Just thinking about the fact that there are hundreds of audience members sitting under the stage, not to mention there are celebrities like Sun Wanqi and Fang Li whom she could only see on TV and newspapers.

Not to mention, on the other end of the camera, it’s broadcasted to the entire nation.

The entire nation’s one billion people could be reached.

So, she really chickened out!

Actually, it’s understandable. Many of us are like this, always want to chicken out before going on stage.

”It’s alright, just do it like you did before.”

Zhang Feng was anxiously spinning in circles, pulling this stunt at the last second.

While he was persuading her,

Elder Wang suddenly had a stroke of genius, pointing to the impatient Xiaobu sitting below the stage, and said: ”Wu Mei, if you don’t go up now, I reckon Young Master Bu is going to blow his top.”

”Alright, I’m going up now!”

As soon as Wu Mei heard the name Xiaobu...

She grabbed the microphone, clenched her fist.

She dashed onto the stage in a brisk stride, even stirring up a gust of wind.

Xiaobu? Losing his temper?!

She didn’t think it through, but just the combination of these two words gave her an infinite amount of pressure... *cough cough* I mean, an infinite amount of motivation!

After all, she was here for Xiaobu’s prestige in the first place; naturally, she knew that if Xiaobu lost it, he wouldn’t care about any rules!

Zhang Feng was dumbfounded.

Is Young Master Bu’s name really that effective?

On the scene.

All four mentors’ chairs were turned around, unable to see anyone, only able to see the names behind the chairs.

Because of the dazzling stage lights, the audience section below was also a blur of gray.

There’s a saying ”invisible under the spotlight”, and that’s the situation here.

So Wu Mei could hardly see anything right now.

However, this actually made her much calmer all at once; she patted her chest and decided to go for it!

Wu Mei was no longer nervous.

Instead, Zhang Feng and Elder Wang started feeling anxious.

”Elder Wang, do you think Wu Mei can pull it off?” asked an uneasy Zhang Feng.

Although they were an idle program team, they were still tied to ”The Voice”, they couldn’t help but worry.

Elder Wang spread his hands and said: ”How would I know?”

Zhang Feng said: ”I’m afraid the audience won’t be able to accept her voice.”

Another editor expressed his worry: ”Whether the mentors can appreciate this style of singing is uncertain too. If you ask me, we should have let the mentors help filter through some contestants in advance.”

”What if Young Master Bu thinks she’s okay, but both the audience and the mentors don’t like her, and if several contestants in a row don’t turn any chairs, then our show is going to bomb!”

”Young Master Bu won’t allow it; no matter what you say, it’s useless. Go do your own thing,” said Elder Wang as he waved his hand and walked away.

He said he wasn’t worried but was in fact the most anxious of them all.

Young Master Bu, I hope the groundbreaking program you’ve created can make it!

Heavenly God, bless us!

The rest sighed and also left the scene.

As Wu Mei stepped on stage, the audience gave symbolic applause, clapping a few times before it stopped.

After all, they could see what Wu Mei looked like.

They were speechless.

”Really paying no attention to appearance at all!”

”Damn, she’s so fat?”

”I thought at first that only listening to the voice was ’The Voice’s’ gimmick meant to deceive, but they actually do ignore appearances? This person is so plain! Lu Xiaobu really dares to choose anyone!”

”Can a woman this fat sing well?”

”The sight is too beautiful, I dare not look!”

”...”

The audience was initially full of anticipation.

But after seeing the first contestant, their hearts had already cooled down by half, and the anticipation quickly diminished.

It’s not that they judged people by their looks, but in singing talent shows, they’ve always seen handsome men and beautiful women.

But now, the opening act was someone this fat, they really couldn’t accept it!

The four mentors faced the audience, so they naturally saw the audience’s expressions very clearly.

Sun Wanqi spread her hands and said, ”It looks like things aren’t going too well?”

Chen Wen glanced at Lu Xiaobu’s composed expression and gave a bitter smile, ”I guess so, but Young Master Bu seems pretty confident.”

Fang Li also shook her head slightly, noncommittal, since the audience’s reaction was too obvious.

Amidst this delicate atmosphere, Wu Mei turned around to nod at someone behind her, indicating that she was ready.

At the same time, the heated music also started playing on stage.

The beat of the drum!

The guitar!

The bass!

The melody was unmistakably a rock song!

The audience was taken aback, what did this mean?

The chubby girl wants to sing rock?

Many people knew that rock was more often sung by men.

Because it required showcasing an attitude and a kind of ’Strength,’ and sometimes women lacked in ’Power.’

Even if women truly sang it, they would only manage a superficial rendition, failing to convey that unique spirit!

They already didn’t have a good impression of you.

And you’re singing rock?

You’re really brave!

”I’m Still Alive, without music, no dance, no prayers!”

”I’m Still Alive, without life, no enjoyment, no laughter!”

As soon as her voice came out, the entire venue was filled with Wu Mei’s grating and hoarse voice.

Her voice had no softness, no beauty, no depth, there was only ’Power’!

’Power’ in the voice!

And emotional ’Power’!

The audience was stunned!

”This...”

”Holy crap!”

”What kind of voice is this!”

”This vocal range, this voice, this ’Power!’”

”Oh my God, why do I have goosebumps!”

The four mentors also had a flash of surprise in their eyes.

After all, they had never had any contact with any of the contestants from beginning to end.

And now, with their backs to the stage, they were even more looking forward to the voice behind them.

Of course, they also had their own standards in mind for what a good voice should be.

However, what they never expected was...

That the voice of the first contestant would be so unique, so explosive!

They had rarely heard a woman sing ”I’m Still Alive” like this!

Keep in mind, the original singer of this song was a male vocalist!

And now, this hoarse female voice actually had more ’Power’ than a male singer??

This must be a joke!

What would the original singer think?!

At this moment

Wu Mei had really gotten into the groove, her voice becoming steadier and richer:

”I’m Still Alive, without brothers, no lover, no friends!”

”I’m Still Alive, without dreams, no pursuit, no glory!”

And at this point, something unexpected happened!
