Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

The boy in front of her looked like most high school students, with a shy personality.

In public, especially in crowded places, his ears would always turn a bit red, and his voice would be soft.

When speaking, he was always afraid of bothering others, also afraid of everyone staring at him.

In the sunlight, the boy looked pure and harmless, shyness was clearly displayed on his face.

However, Bai Xiqin knew that this boy named Hong Yu wasn’t as pure and harmless as he seemed on the surface.

Man Slaughter Hong Yu.

This is the name most easily heard among human survivors in the coming years.

Bai Xiqin had never heard of it before, until she heard it from people in that laboratory.

The people in lab coats mentioned Hong Yu’s name several times while studying her; they had a strong interest in superpowers and superpower users.

They even thought about capturing Hong Yu.

They sent people but suffered heavy losses, failing to succeed, and none of those sent returned, so they gave up.

All the adjectives Bai Xiqin heard about Hong Yu were furious, bloodthirsty, and crazed.

The safe bases he visited left survivors with no choice but to flee; no superpower user from any safe base could withstand him.

To oppose him was to have no chance of survival.

He was never merciful, not even sparing an infant from a safe base.

Any living creature appearing before him couldn’t escape death.

The most important thing was that no one knew his purpose, nor why he killed.

All anyone knew was that this boy named Hong Yu was truly a Man Slaughter.

The number of people he killed wasn’t enormous; most could still run away as long as they didn’t fight till the end.

However, his methods were too brutal; where he passed, there were remnants and severed limbs everywhere, rivers of blood.

Upon hearing this name, one must run, the farther, the better...

Only by running could one survive.

Bai Xiqin’s astonished gaze might have been too obvious, causing Hong Yu to lower his head shyly, his ears turning bright red.

His fingers nervously rubbed back and forth, his body stiff and motionless.

Why was this pretty sister staring at him?

It made him feel embarrassed.

Did he do something wrong?

”Xiao Niu?”

Leng Yebai tugged at Bai Xiqin’s finger, standing in front of her, the corners of his mouth slightly downturned.

He seemed a bit displeased.

Why stare at others so intently, was he no longer as attractive with age?

”It’s nothing, I was just daydreaming.”

Bai Xiqin rubbed her brow, casually made an excuse, and continued, ”Let’s go back! It’s time to eat.”

”Hmm!”

Leng Yebai nodded, pulling Bai Xiqin towards the direction of the bus, giving Hong Yu a cold glance before leaving.

The chilling aura from Leng Yebai was easily perceived by Hong Yu, a feeling that was quite unsettling.

In the middle of summer, he actually felt a bit cold.

Hong Yu quietly shivered, not daring to look directly at Leng Yebai.

It was the first time he had encountered someone whose expression was empty yet fierce.

His heart was pounding wildly.

His throat felt as if it was being choked.

Terrified~

Encountering someone so intimidating on his first guard duty, Hong Yu felt a bit discouraged.

Maybe he should tell Captain Song, he didn’t want to stand guard anymore, maybe he should do logistics instead?

After all, he had the strength and was quite capable!

Yet...

Hong Yu pursed his lips, nervously rubbed his fingers, Captain Song was one of the top leaders at the safe base, and he was too scared to directly say anything, what should he do~

Hong Yu wrestled with his thoughts for a while, and only after the Bai Family walked far away did he slowly walk to the gate.

He should be a Gatekeeper after all!

Too shy to tell Captain Song about changing jobs.

Hong Yu let out a long breath, tightly clenching his fists, as if to encourage himself.

His eyes unconsciously followed the distant silhouettes of the Bai Family, finally landing on Bai Xiqin.

The silhouette looked thin and weak, the aura gentle, and seeing her made Hong Yu feel a sense of warmth.

”This pretty sister, have I seen her somewhere before?”

Hong Yu scratched his head hard, but could not recall anything.

He felt a sense of familiarity with this sister, yet could not remember where they had met.

He had an eidetic memory, and was sure it was his first time meeting this sister, yet she somehow felt so familiar...

Hong Yu stood dazed at the gate, not withdrawing his gaze until Bai Xiqin and the others walked far away.

The sky gradually darkened.

The number of survivors returning to the safe base dwindled, sparse and scattered, and Hong Yu could occasionally slack off.

It turned dark, but the base was brightly lit.

Hong Yu set aside the temperature gun in his hand, took out a piece of paper and a pen from his pocket.

The paper was folded many times, and Hong Yu patiently unfolded it; under the light, it was clear this was a math test paper.

He was a first-year high school student, with two more years before he had to take the college entrance exam; even during special times, he couldn’t forget to study.

Hong Yu spread the paper on a bench beside him, leaned over it, and began solving math problems.

Hong Yu solved the questions rapidly, almost without thinking, smoothly and easily.

In less than ten minutes, he had completed an entire test paper.

”Hong Yu, why are you still doing test papers when you have free time?”

The Gatekeeper on the other side of the gate couldn’t help but comment seeing Hong Yu working on a test paper.

”Even if you’re a top student, it doesn’t help, you should focus on enhancing your superpower!”

Hong Yu’s cheeks instantly turned red, as if caught doing something wrong.

He carefully folded the densely filled test paper and put it back into his pocket, speaking softly,

”No matter what happens, schoolwork should never be neglected.”

Hong Yu gently capped the pen in his hand, a hint of determination in his shy eyes.

His family situation was not good; he was an orphan, abandoned at birth, fortunately picked up by a trash-collecting grandfather who took him in, allowing him to survive.

Since childhood, he knew he was different from other kids; only by studying hard could he and his grandfather have a better life.

However... his grandfather didn’t live to see him go to college, passing away from illness when he was in middle school.

He collected trash while attending school.

By the time he reached his first year of high school, studying was always his top priority.

Because it was his grandfather’s wish, and his own wish as well.

Even though the school wasn’t currently in session, he wasn’t willing to fall behind in his studies, even if he knew the material by heart; during downtime, he would still read books and work on problems.

”Sigh—given the current situation, who knows when schools will reopen; first focus on enhancing your superpower, survive well! Only by surviving can there be a future.”

Looking at the earnest young man in front of him, solving problems, the Gatekeeper sighed slightly.

In Hong Yu, he seemed to see the scenes from before, students—the word was so fresh, tender, and beautiful!

Yet, in less than a year, the whole world was in ruins.

”Hmm, I know! Enhancing superpowers and not falling behind in schoolwork are both important; my grandfather said that everyone has tasks appropriate for their time, students have student tasks, adults have adult tasks.”

Hong Yu earnestly nodded.

He took enhancing his superpower just as seriously, never stopping, like with his schoolwork.
