Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

”Zhang Gong...”

Bai Xiqin rubbed her temples, feeling that she should have heard this name before, but couldn’t quite recall it.

”He is acknowledged as the strongest Superpower User among humans, with a rank that is unfathomable. It’s said he once swam alone in the sea. He’s very skilled at reconnaissance and knows a lot of things. Actually, I’ve never met him, nor have I had any contact with people from the Capital City, yet I was publicly appointed as the deputy leader of the Human Survivor Alliance,” said the Base Commander.

The Base Commander was indeed very powerful, well-known in this area, but not to the extent that his reputation would reach the Capital City during times of limited transportation.

This implies that Zhang Gong surely has his own intelligence network.

As for whether the ”network” is managed by him alone or a team, no one knows.

In any case, he is someone to be wary of.

Without knowing his character, even the Base Commander doesn’t fully trust that Human Survivor Alliance.

”Is he really that formidable? No matter how great, he can’t kill me with one punch!”

Taowu mumbled lowly.

Base Commander: ...

”Though it’s unknown whether he’s an enemy or ally, under normal circumstances, he should aim to unite all Superpower Users to fight against the zombies,” Bai Xiqin said.

Besides hearing the name Zhang Gong on the radio, she had probably heard it somewhere else, maybe in a lab or a safety base.

Perhaps she only heard the name without delving deeper into it, which is why she has no impression.

”As long as you understand, better to be cautious.”

After the Base Commander said this, he didn’t speak anymore, as if Zhang Gong were Bai Xiaosheng, able to hear him speaking ill from thousands of miles away.

”Xiao Leng, let me see if your wound has healed.”

The Base Commander looked down at Leng Yebai’s leg, the one scratched by Captain Zhu.

Leng Yebai surprisingly didn’t protest, merely pulled up his pant leg expressionlessly, allowing the Base Commander to take a look, and then put it back down.

Acting very well-behaved.

Bai Xiqin was slightly surprised at Leng Yebai’s actions.

It seems that the relationship between Leng Yebai and the Base Commander has improved significantly.

The Base Commander nodded slightly; the wound on Leng Yebai’s leg was healing quickly. After some morning exercise, some of the scab had fallen off, revealing fresh red flesh.

It seems it will be fine soon.

He definitely won’t turn into a zombie.

Internally, the Base Commander felt both worried and happy.

Worried that if others find out Leng Yebai won’t turn into a zombie, they will definitely capture him for dissection.

Happy because his son won’t turn into a zombie!

”You guys hang out, I’ll take my leave first.”

The Base Commander touched his nose, saying he was leaving, but his feet moved slowly.

The sunshine today was very bright, with trees in the park casting shadows all over the ground. It was cool here, and more so, because he was spending time with his son.

It felt like camping.

Back then, he and his wife loved camping in their own garden during the summer, it was very pleasant. Now that area has become the residential area of the safety base, no longer available for camping.

”It’ll be time for lunch soon; why not stay for lunch?”

Bai Xiqin glanced at Leng Yebai, who seemed slightly uneasy, and extended an invitation to the Base Commander.

Creating an opportunity for father and son to spend time together.

After Bai Xiqin spoke, she clearly felt Leng Yebai relax a little.

It seems he also wanted to ask the Base Commander to stay.

”Alright!”

The Base Commander agreed immediately.

Having just had breakfast, it wasn’t quite time for lunch yet, so the three of them strolled in the overgrown park, just like before the apocalypse.

Leng Yebai stood in the middle, with Bai Xiqin and the Base Commander on either side, slowly treading on the thick grass, so quietly that no footsteps could be heard.

Vibrant trees blocked out the sunlight, preventing the scorching sun from reaching the ground, isolating them from the heat outside.

A rich scent of grass lingered at the tip of their noses, smelling very pleasant.

The park was primarily planted with willows, the green vines swaying in the gentle breeze.

Water Python and Qin Yuan lay on Bai Xiqin’s shoulder, lulled to sleep by the refreshing breeze.

Taowu seemed like an unsophisticated child, running here and there occasionally!

”Awoo Awoo!!!”

Taowu crashed into a pile of weeds, suddenly howling loudly, then burst out of the vegetation.

”What’s wrong?”

The Base Commander looked warily at the weeds, his fingertips glowing purple, thinking Taowu had encountered something dangerous.

”N-Nothing! I just got scared! I saw something really, really ugly! It frightened me to the point I almost kneeled and begged for mercy!”

Taowu looked utterly shaken.

Base Commander: ... Alright!

He really wondered what ugly thing Taowu had seen to be so frightened.

The Base Commander casually snapped a branch from a lush tree, pushing aside the weeds, only to immediately see a mass of plump white maggots writhing without bones.

His hand trembled, and the branch fell.

Alright, he was startled too.

Besides these boneless creatures, there was also a skeleton that had been almost entirely gnawed, most likely from a rabbit.

The rabbit had been eaten by some creature and left here; because of the heat, boneless creatures were born.

”These bite marks, why do they look so much like a zombie’s?”

Bai Xiqin carefully examined the rabbit’s skeleton, clearly seeing a human tooth mark on one of the bones.

Humans would not waste food like this, nor would they eat raw rabbit meat. During times of scarce resources, humans would even crack bones to make soup.

Therefore, the creature that gnawed on the rabbit could only be a zombie.

”Master, should we find the target?”

Upon hearing Bai Xiqin’s analysis, Taowu immediately became excited.

This was an opportunity to help find the zombie Bai Xiqin wanted.

Although it felt those zombies looked similar and quite beautiful to it, since its master didn’t like them, it wouldn’t like them either!

”Find it! Maybe we can earn a Crystal Core,” Bai Xiqin said.

As the three walked, they had no topic of conversation, so finding something else to talk about would alleviate the awkwardness!

”Okay!”

Taowu happily spun around in place and then started sniffing its way toward the park’s center.

Watching Taowu’s direction, Bai Xiqin was slightly surprised.

Zombies prefer human cities; wherever there are humans, there are zombies, and they generally don’t wander into remote forest depths.

Even if there’s plenty of animal flesh and blood to consume there, their favorite is human flesh and blood.

So why would this zombie head into the depths?

This park covers a large area; normally it would take two hours to walk around it. After the growth of wild grass and trees, it’s full of twists and turns and becomes harder to traverse the deeper you go.

Mutant animals and insects still exist, and people generally don’t come here.

The three of them followed Taowu’s path, finding it difficult to step anywhere else.

Rustle, rustle—

The sound of vegetation rubbing against the ground echoed, accompanied by a strong grassy scent.

”There are mutant plants, be careful!” the Base Commander whispered.
