Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Song Kerou dragged her heavy suitcase as she slowly left the Song Family, a hint of melancholy on her face, looking pitiful.

Even leaving the Song Family, Song Kerou didn’t want to live in an apartment alone, for her, it was like a collective ”slum,” making her feel inferior living there.

”Kerou, don’t be too upset, Song Ning is just bad-tempered. Maybe when Uncle Song comes back, I can have a good talk with him. After all, we’re all family, and it’s impossible they’ll really kick you out.”

Zhu Cheng jogged to catch up with Song Kerou, smiling as he consoled her, exuding a bit of manliness.

Unfortunately, he was also the one who was just intimidated by Song Ning’s pressure, so even if he acted tough now, it was meaningless.

”Mom and Dad might listen to my brother too.” Song Kerou said sadly, lowering her eyes slightly, ”I’m not greedy for the family’s privileged conditions, I just can’t bear leaving my family. If I’m too far away from them, I... I’m scared.”

The sunlight shone on Song Kerou’s face, radiating an inexplicable fragility and sadness.

At that moment, Zhu Cheng, a young man, felt his heart racing.

Nowadays, pretty girls rarely go out all dolled up, often purposely making themselves look unattractive. Even though there was still a layer of something black on Song Kerou’s face, in Zhu Cheng’s eyes, she was as beautiful as a fairy.

At this moment, his heart was moved.

”No worries! We’re all inside the safety base; you can meet anytime you want. I can bring you in anytime.”

Zhu Cheng’s ears turned red, and he stuttered a little as he spoke.

”Your problems are my problems now, and I can protect you always.”

His fingers tangled together, looking somewhat nervous.

These were probably the only ”romantic words” the young man could think of.

Song Kerou lowered her eyes, her fleeting disgust hidden beneath a faint smile.

”Thank you so much, Brother Zhu, but...” Song Kerou turned to look at the Song Family villa, a hint of reluctance in her eyes, ”I really don’t want to be too far from my family.”

”No problem, there’s an empty villa next door here. I can help you stay there for now.”

Zhu Cheng pointed to a villa closest to the Song Family, feeling a sharp pain in his heart, but for the sake of winning a beauty’s smile, he had no choice.

The monthly crystal cores required for the villa were a lot, probably emptying his savings.

No problem, he could work harder in the future.

Moreover, he thought the Song Family probably wouldn’t be so heartless to let the injured Song Kerou stay outside for long.

”Really? Thank you, Brother Zhu!”

Song Kerou smiled brightly, grabbing Zhu Cheng’s arm, full of gratitude.

Zhu Cheng saw Song Kerou smiling so happily, suddenly feeling that spending all his savings was a great choice.

He didn’t know this was just the beginning of his misfortune.

――

”Roar――”

A Zombie with a face full of rotting flesh chased after a bicycle, on which sat Bai Xiqin and her brother.

Bai Yifan pedaled furiously, a faint smile on his face, though it looked somewhat twitchy, clearly terrified.

But with his sister sitting behind, the great image he just built couldn’t crumble, so he had to pretend to be reliable.

Bai Xiqin, experiencing a Zombie with an entirely rotten face up close for the first time, was very scared at first.

But seeing its clumsy movements and stiff limbs trailing behind, she wasn’t so afraid anymore.

She even examined it carefully.

Before it died, it was probably a decent old man, wearing neat clothes, although stained and torn by black blood, it was evident he was different from the villagers’ elders.

Its facial features were severely twisted, not the kind face of an elder.

After looking for a while, Bai Xiqin got bored.

All the monsters seemed the same, faces full of rotting flesh, snarling from their throats, the more she looked, the less afraid she became. She even wanted to see if they had pretty crystal cores in their heads.

”Xiao Fan, aren’t you very capable? What if we stop and see what color its crystal core is!”

Bai Xiqin patted Bai Yifan’s back, her voice firm and fearless.

Her words made Bai Yifan shiver instinctively.

He was speechless.

Wasn’t his sister having temporary amnesia with recent memory loss?

Why is she still so bold?

Could it be hereditary?

He inherited from Dad and Grandpa.

Sister inherited from Grandma and Mom.

Thinking of this, Bai Yifan felt a little resentful towards God.

If he had known about the apocalypse, why couldn’t he inherit Grandma and Mom’s daring genes?

Just because he’s a boy, he doesn’t inherit them? It’s unfair!

For a moment, Bai Yifan wished he were a girl, at least he wouldn’t be scared in this damned apocalypse.

”Sis, don’t mess around. If we’re careless, we’ll both end up howling together! Let’s do this experiment when we go back and join Grandma and Mom!”

Bai Yifan decisively rejected Bai Xiqin’s suggestion.

In the past, it was fine; his sister could take down a Zombie with a flick of her finger.

Now, if they wanted to see the crystal core in a Zombie’s head, Bai Yifan, who wasn’t a girl, had to personally crack open the Zombie’s skull with a knife.

It’s too hard!

”It’s just an ordinary Zombie; are you afraid of an ordinary Zombie?” Bai Xiqin waved her dagger calmly, ”I feel like I’ve adapted already. I’m not afraid of ordinary Zombies at all.”

”Me, afraid? No way!” Bai Yifan stiffened his neck, ”I just cherish life, and Zombies, even if they’re not alive, compare them to Brother Zhang...”

Speaking, Bai Yifan quickly fell silent, suddenly remembering his sister didn’t seem to know Brother Zhang was the Zombie King.

Thinking of the wound on his sister’s forehead, Bai Yifan pursed his thin lips, cutting off his words.

To save his sister from worrying.

”Are you talking about Xiao Ming? What’s up with him?”

Mentioning Zhang Yiming, Bai Xiqin blinked and asked Bai Yifan.

”Nothing, I just think Brother Zhang is way more handsome compared to Zombies, it’s like comparing clouds and mud.” Bai Yifan said.

”That’s for sure.” Bai Xiqin smiled, ”A lot of girls in our class like him! He’s not just our class president, he’s also the student council president, excellent in every way.”

Bai Yifan sneaked a glance around, only seeing a few Zombies with faces full of rotting flesh, not spotting Leng Yebai, then gossipingly asked.

”And you, Sis? Do you like Brother Zhang more or Brother Leng more?”

Asking this, Bai Yifan felt a chill in his head; if Brother Leng were here, he’d surely crack his skull!

”Of course, it’s Xiao Ming; isn’t that obvious!” Bai Xiqin rolled her eyes at Bai Yifan.

One is a classmate; the other is a not-so-familiar man; the question didn’t make sense.

Bai Yifan, riding his bike, shivered instinctively, feeling like he was being cheeky.

”Sis, you’d better keep quiet about this when we go back.” Bai Yifan advised.

”Why?” Bai Xiqin was puzzled.

”I’m afraid Brother Leng’s mom might invite our whole family for tea!” Bai Yifan twitched his mouth.

The Base Commander recently mentioned this a lot. After Bai Xiqin’s memory loss, he often worried his son might be rejected.

Constantly ”threatening” in front of the Bai Family to have Brother Leng’s mom talk with them.

It’s just... terrifying.
