Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Song Hongfei and Song Ning’s life and death still mattered to Song Kerou; after all, only with them could she survive in the apocalypse.

But, they’ve seen Song Wenwen and already know that she lied to them back then saying Song Wenwen didn’t turn into a zombie.

If they found out that Song Wenwen was killed by her, she truly wouldn’t have space to survive in this apocalypse.

She even thought that if those zombies just bit them to death, it would be perfect. That way, she could live with Song’s mother, who was also a superpower user; at least someone would provide for them.

But the dangerous aura emanating from Song’s mother came without restraint, clearly telling her that Song’s mother would really beat her to death for the sake of those two.

”We, we went to the seaside yesterday, and then we were surrounded by zombies. They were at the back. I don’t know what happened...” Song Kerou looked at the somber expression on Song’s mother’s face and said pitifully, ”I didn’t say anything because I was afraid you’d fall into danger.”

”Why are you just saying this now!”

The aura around Song’s mother became even more intimidating.

Song’s mother had always been a gentle woman; this was the first time Song Kerou felt threatening vibes from her.

”I was afraid you would also leave. You’re my only family left.” Song Kerou transformed from her initial indifference to a tear-stained appearance.

”Slap!”

The flames in Song’s mother’s hand disappeared, but the slap still landed harshly on Song Kerou’s face.

Song Kerou fell onto the bed in an instant, her face visibly swelling.

This was the first time Song Kerou was hit by the Song Family.

After giving Song Kerou a slap, Song’s mother turned and walked away, heading directly towards the safe base’s gate.

Yesterday she assumed the father and son would return later from a mission like always, not expecting they were handling aftereffects.

Thinking of how Song Kerou concealed the information, Song’s mother wished she could beat Song Kerou to death.

Song’s mother couldn’t drive; usually, a driver would do it, and after the apocalypse, the Song father and son took over.

Hence, she could only ride an electric bike towards the seaside.

She was too scared, afraid that after Song Wenwen’s death, the Song father and son would also leave her.

In her panic, she even forgot to find the Base Commander.

All she thought about was finding them as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Song father and son, whom Song’s mother worried about, were already on their way back to the safety base.

They were driving a car they picked up from the roadside, heading swiftly towards the safety base.

Song Ning was driving, and Song Hongfei wasn’t sitting idly but busily working inside the car.

Holding some old newspapers, he pasted them one by one on the car windows.

Beside him, the Xiao Lan Zombie sat blankly on the chair, with no reaction, its eyes vacant.

The Song father and son planned to take the Xiao Lan Zombie near the safety base to let Song’s mother see Song Wenwen too.

Their family had been devastated by Song Wenwen’s death.

Even though Song Wenwen turned out like this, for them, it was a kind of comfort; at least she wasn’t denied the chance to turn into a zombie.

”Later, I’ll first go to the safety base to treat Xiao Niu’s wound, then bring Mom out.”

Song Ning had a faint smile on his face.

Even though Song Wenwen had turned into a zombie, for them, it was already the best arrangement.

They spent the whole night outside yesterday, unwilling to leave Song Wenwen alone among the zombies.

Even if those were her kind.

Later, Zhang Yiming returned, and upon seeing that the father and son hadn’t returned to the base, he asked them to bring Song Wenwen back to the safety base.

The Song father and son knew that Zhang Yiming urged them to return quickly because someone needed to treat Xiao Niu’s injuries.

Song Ning was very grateful for his Wood Ability, as his capability to heal Bai Xiqin’s wounds was why Zhang Yiming controlled Song Wenwen’s instincts and allowed them to take Song Wenwen away.

”Alright! I’ll wait for you outside, and by then, think of the safest way.”

After pasting the newspaper on the glass, Song Hongfei sat beside Song Wenwen, visibly smiling.

Song Hongfei took a Crystal Core out from his pocket and placed it in Song Wenwen’s decayed hand.

Zombies could also increase their rank by absorbing Crystal Cores. If Song Wenwen one day could become a zombie like Zhang Yiming and Fan Tangtang, for the Song Family, it would be a true reunion.

The slightly twitching fingers of the Xiao Lan Zombie emitted a noise like broken bellows from its rotting throat.

It wasn’t reacting to the Crystal Core, but to the scent of blood and flesh emanating from the Song father and son.

It could refrain from eating the Bai Family because they gave it a skirt, and Zhang Yiming didn’t allow it to eat, so its restraint over the Bai Family’s blood and flesh reached its peak.

Zhang Yiming also forbade it from eating the Song father and son, but it didn’t recognize them; its craving for flesh persisted secretly, though paralyzed by the fear of Zhang Yiming, the Xiao Lan Zombie let itself be led by the Song father and son towards the safety base.

”Come, I’ll teach you how to absorb the Crystal Core.”

Song Hongfei looked at Song Wenwen with a face full of affection and then took out another Crystal Core, starting to absorb it bit by bit.

”You have to focus your attention, use your brain to sense the energy within the Crystal Core, and then slowly grasp that energy, absorbing it into your brain’s Crystal Core...”

Song Hongfei explained earnestly, his voice soft as he almost ignored the intense scent of decay wafting from Song Wenwen.

Song Wenwen’s blank eyes gazed forward, not listening to Song Hongfei’s words, nor absorbing the Crystal Core in her hand.

She didn’t look different from other ordinary zombies, except her clothes appeared a bit cleaner, though no less decayed than the other zombies.

She couldn’t comprehend complex phrases, nor perform cunning tasks like High Rank Zombies.

She merely acted on instinct to devour flesh, devoid of emotions.

The Xiao Lan Zombie’s vacant response didn’t make Song Hongfei feel he was wasting his breath, on the contrary, he patiently repeated it over and over.

Just like watching his children babbling when they were young, no matter what questions or things they said, as parents, they would always patiently guide them.

It was merely like returning to when the children were young, just as before, guiding them from ignorance to independence.

The car drove quickly, and the Song father and son were in high spirits, full of hope for the future.

They hoped Song Wenwen could regain her consciousness and communicate with them; they desired nothing else.

As they neared the safety base, Song Ning suddenly saw an electric bike frantically rushing out ahead.

The person on the electric bike, hair flying messily, her face covered with hair in a large imitation of Zhenzi, was none other than his gentle and elegant mother.

”Dad, isn’t that my mom up there?”

Speaking while hurriedly opening the window, Song Ning waved to the person outside.

”Mom!”

Song Ning’s hearty voice made the nearly mad Song’s mother pause, suddenly braking, her bloodshot eyes staring straight at the car ahead.

Only when Song Ning and Song Hongfei poked their heads out did she heave a huge sigh of relief.

Fortunately, they were fine.

”Why are you coming back only now? Where did you go without returning home at night!”

Song’s mother had always been an intellectual and gentle person, but now she was like a village aunt, her voice terrifyingly loud, almost like she wanted to eat the Song father and son alive.

This was Song Ning’s first time seeing his mother so agitated.
